Chico may not look like your typical Chihuahua, but that’s exactly what makes him unforgettable. When he first came to us, his past was a mystery. Though someone once called him a “stray,” it was clear he had been part of a family—one that, sadly, gave up on him. Chico has a severe humped back, a result of spinal fusion that’s either from an old injury or a congenital condition. Whatever the cause, it gives him a distinctive look—one that doesn’t change his ability to love or be loved. Pop a cute shirt on him, and he struts his stuff like the little rockstar he is. Handsome? Absolutely. This sweet boy came in with significant dental issues that have since been addressed, but he still struggles to maintain weight. Despite normal bloodwork, the cause remains a mystery. He’s also had a scary allergic reaction in the past that caused his throat and tongue to swell—because of this, he now thrives on a lamb-based, soft food diet. He can eat, but it takes him time and patience—just like his journey. But here’s the real story: Chico is good. He’s house-trained, navigates stairs like a champ (although slowly), loves other dogs, and adores children. He’s gentle, friendly, and full of heart. He may have been overlooked before, but not anymore. Chico deserves a forever home that sees past what’s “different” and embraces what’s beautiful. A place where he’s safe, secure, and cherished—just as he is.
