Story
We've had Roose since he was 8 weeks old, born in July 2018. He's always had a fairly high level of anxiety as herding breeds tend to be. He came into our home with my wife's first dog, a chihuahua mix. Since then we now have 2 small children under 2 years of age. Roose and Rex have become increasingly difficult to manage and provide a satisfactory life for, and have become increasingly aggressive over food involving the older of the two children. We do not have adequate time or resources to dedicate towards retraining and we are no longer willing to potentially put our children at risk as the result of our failing these dogs. We are seeking to rehome both dogs. The same home is not necessary. Roose (Roo) is very food motivated and loves being outside. He does not play well with larger dogs but is fine with dogs his size or smaller. He does not enjoy overly curious dogs that will invade his space or attempt to take his food. He's never had an incident biting children or an adult.

Story
Charlie loves naps. He hasn’t seen a dog toy he didn’t want to pull all the stuffing out of, except one. He loves his squirrel toy and his dinosaur toy. He’s my sister’s dog, but she died recently. He likes a cool floor and a nice dog bed. When it is cold in the house (with air conditioning), he likes to go outside and sit in the sun at lunch. He likes to play fetch down the hallway, a little bit— he gets tired of the game quickly. He travels locally well and is okay around crowds. He doesn’t bark hardly at all, especially in a crowd situation. He is 14 and is really starting to show his age. He lays around all day, moving from dog bed to dog bed, to bath mat, to floor and back to dog bed. He likes having his back scratched and his nose scratched. He has allergies, currently untreated. Not sure how he would do with a cat. He herds—if we aren’t heading to bed at a certain hour, he barks— like aren’t you going to bed, lol! If he’s in a narrow space, he might bite.

Story
Bruno is such a sweet dog! My husband and I had a baby , that being said Bruno just doesn’t get the time he deserves. It’s not fair for him. He is such a lazy boy- such a cuddly soul. He really is a good boy, however he does not get along with other dogs or cats- ANY type of animal really. Mis behaves on a leash when we go on walks. He has improved tremendously, but if he sees another dog, he can be a handful. I think he’s just being protective really, not actually aggressive behavior. NO teeth, no growling or hair poking up at all. Mostly barks and whines at them. My husband usually walks him in the mornings before work and I would do nights, with baby it’s impossible to do it because he is so strong for a small dog.We got him from an older couple 1 year ago and wasn’t told about this behavior. We did our best to correct the behavior and he is improving little by little. He is so sweet and adorable, carries his toy everywhere he goes and loves to cuddle. Best with older kids.

Story
Wesley is a 3-year-old, 35-pound very beautiful mix of Corgi and Australian Cattle Dog. He is an affectionate, friendly and well-behaved dog. Wesley gets along well with the two other dogs in his foster home. He loves to run zoomies around the yard with them or play the ever-popular game of You-chase-me, now-I-chase-you, now-you chase me. His favorite thing to play with is squeaky toys. He will happily squeak away and entertain himself. His favorite activity is squirrel hunting. He’s also very fond of walks. Wesley is very sweet and quietly affectionate. He loves to snuggle up beside you on the couch or the bed. When you come home, he’ll wag his tail wildly and, if it’s available, lick your leg. He is always up for a head scratch, a butt scritch, and a tummy rub. The first year of his life Wesley lived with a homeless woman. Because of this, he is very friendly to all people and has zero aggression in him. He loves to take car rides to go places and meet people. If you’re looking for a friendly dog to go everywhere with you, Wesley fits the bill. Wesley spent the next 2 or so years in a good home with a loving owner. He came to us when she had to move into an assisted living facility. Because of this experience, he has his manners down. He is house-trained, both through a doggie door and just being let out regularly. When foster dogmom is at work, Wesley has run of the house and is non-destructive. He would prefer to sleep in the bed with his person/people, but he will sleep in a dog bed. Note that he can get a little growly around male dogs, but it is easily corrected and never results in fights. Wesley would prefer a home with a yard but could adapt to apartment life. He would be a great dog for a single, couple or family, though we recommend older children only. Wesley is neutered and has all his shots. He is heartworm-negative and on heartworm preventative. Note: We always respond first to inquiries that tell us something about your living situation (house, apartment, single, family, etc.) and why you want this dog. Be sure to include your phone number in your inquiry. We call inquiries that seem to be a good fit for the dog.

Story
Dodger will be attending our adoption event this Saturday, September 5, at Hollywood Feed Plano (Park and Preston) from 1-2pm. Come on by and meet this sweet pup! Take me out to the ball game Take me out to.... meet Dodger! Dodger is an adorable 6 month old corgi/hound mix with lots of love to give. Momma is our very own Ruthie (now adopted!), who is a corgi mix.  He is very playful and energetic and absolutely loves other dogs. He is especially friendly with people and children. He loves being outside, running around, exploring, and playing. Dodger really enjoys companionship and thrives when he has another dog around. He takes comfort in having a buddy to follow and play with so he will be happiest in a home with another dog, but it's not required. Dodger is doing great with his house manners! He goes to the back door, sits, and waits to be let outside. Accidents are very rare and generally only happen when he gets really excited (he's still just a puppy after all!). This is a wonderful, happy, social pup waiting for his forever family to go on fun adventures!   To meet Dodger in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application.  ADOPTION FEE Covers: Core vaccines plus Lepto and Flu, all boosters, microchip, dewormer until clear fecal test & spay or neuter when completed by a DSDA vet partner plus any necessary medical care.  All dogs are on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and you receive the following month's preventatives complementary with your adoption!  * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must be home more than not. Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.  Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Story
Meet George — 12 years young and officially embracing retirement. ❤️ For 12 years, George lived the life of a breeding dog. When his breeder passed away, he was one of eight Corgis welcomed into NTASR, and we're so grateful we were able to give him the fresh start he deserved. Now? George is making up for lost time. At around 40 pounds, this handsome gentleman is built a little more like a loaf than a race car, and he fully embraces the lifestyle. His favorite activities include following his people around the house, claiming the comfiest spot on the couch, accepting pets, and reminding everyone that naps are an art form. George is incredibly sweet, gentle, and quietly affectionate. He loves being near his people without being demanding, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and is great with kids. He's potty trained, house trained, and has all the qualities that make senior dogs some of the very best companions. George isn't looking for adventure. He's looking for home. A soft bed. A family to love. Maybe a snack or two. And someone who sees that the best years of his life are still ahead of him. If you've been waiting for the perfect laid-back best friend, George is ready to spend his retirement exactly where he belongs—with you.

Story
Meet Hampton, one of the e funky bunch from momma dog Ginny June. He is the gentle old soul with the sweetest heart. If you're looking for a puppy who is equal parts playful companion and peaceful cuddle buddy, Hampton might just be your perfect match. He's like a to lounge in the grass, chewing on a stick, but still has a playful side. Hampton starts every morning ready to play, wrestle with his sister, and give face kisses. Once the morning excitement is over, though, he's perfectly content settling into his favorite routine of naps, toys, and people watching. When Hampton gets tired he will put himself to sleep either in the back room or into his crate, and take a long nap. One of Hampton's favorite activities is simply sitting and watching. He loves lying outside in the grass, collecting little twigs and leaves, and quietly people-watching unless his sister Bishop wants to play. He has an calm and loving personality for, but don't let that fool you he still has playful side and loves wrestling with his sister and chewing on his favorite squeaky toys. Hampton gives the sweetest little face kisses, and like a to be held. Ear scratches, booty scratches are his favorite things. While he loves spending time with his people, he doesn't need constant attention. He's perfectly happy entertaining himself with a toy in another room before wandering back to check in for a cuddle. He is food motivated and potty training is going smoothly, and he's already figured out that the back door is where he goes to let everyone know he needs to go outside. Just don't keep him waiting too long his puppy bladder doesn't have much patience yet. He also learns routines fast and already knows exactly where the dog food and treats are kept. Like his sister Bisbop, he's a slow eater and prefers to take his time with meals. Hampton can be a little unsure around loud noises. His calm nature, gentle heart, and loving personality make him one of a kind. When you open the door, he is sitting and waiting for pets or to be held. 💙 Gentle, quiet puppy with an old-soul personality but still loves to play 🌿 Loves lying in the grass, chewing sticks, and people-watching 😴 Professional nap enthusiast who will put himself to bed when he's tired 💋 Gives the sweetest face kisses 🧸 Loves toys, wrestling with his sister Bishop, and quiet playtime 👂 Loves ear scratches and booty rubs 🚪 Doing an excellent job with potty training and lets you know when he needs to go outside 🧠 Learns routines quickly and already knows where the treats are kept 🔇 Rarely barks ❤️ Calm and very affectionate

Story
Meet Claredon 🩷 10 pounds of scruffy Corgi mix and a whole lot of puppy. She's is one of the Funky Bunch, the little crew who came into NTASR with their mama, Ginny June, after they were picked up in South Dallas. Mom was raising her babies in a tough situation, so we brought the whole family into rescue. Now the Funky Bunch is growing up, and it's time for these little weirdos to find families of their own. 🥹 She's is an energetic, playful little girl who believes running, jumping, wrestling, and generally making things interesting are all important parts of puppy life. She's also a total sweetheart. Once the zoomies are over, she's happy to curl up with her people and soak up some attention. She's good with dogs, cats, and kids, walks on leash, and is crate trained. She's mostly puppy-pad trained and making progress with house training. Take her outside on a regular schedule and she's catching on quickly. She's a little skittish around loud noises, so she'll do best with people who can give her a little patience and reassurance while she learns about the world. Basically, Claredon is part scruffy athlete, part professional snuggler, and part tiny chaos coordinator. And at 10 pounds, she's pretty much the perfect size for all three jobs. 🩷🐾
