Story
Meet Frank—a soft-hearted pup who is learning how to be brave. With an estimated date of birth of August 18, 2025, Frank is the kind of dog whose love is quiet, genuine, and incredibly rewarding. He can be timid when meeting new people and prefers to take his time getting comfortable, but once he trusts you, he transforms into the sweetest companion, happily melting into your lap as if he has always belonged there. Snuggles are definitely his favorite thing. Frank is not a fan of crates, but with patience and understanding, his playful personality begins to shine. One of his greatest joys is racing around the house with his canine friends, ears flopping as he discovers just how fun life can be. He is a smart, eager learner who is already working on commands such as sit, touch, and down. Nothing makes him prouder than realizing he has done something right. Squeaky toys send his tail into overdrive, and a warm lap is his favorite place to feel safe and secure. Frank is looking for a patient, experienced family that understands shy dogs and is willing to give him the time and encouragement he needs to build confidence. A home where someone is present most of the day would be ideal. He would especially benefit from having another confident, social dog to help show him the ropes. A quiet home with a securely fenced yard is required. If you have the patience to help a gentle soul blossom, Frank will reward you with a lifetime of loyalty, affection, and love If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Story
Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. If you think you might be interested in adopting Sheldon, please take the time to fill out an application. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in adopting, then please go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Click on Adoption Application. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Story
If you are looking for a professional true crime watcher and lap sitter look no further! Since you’re reading this, you’re obviously looking for a new best friend and, hey, so am I! My name is Buddy, and I am an adorable, incredibly affectionate Dachshund who is also a very young 7-ish years old. I would describe myself as medium sized however my current foster Mom thinks I’m a little chonky. I DO love snacks and am very food motivated. She has said that I am very handsome, stunning with loving eyes and love kissing her and giving her all the affection and kisses. I DO enjoy baths and love the attention that I receive on spa days! I have a unique personality, and nothing makes me happier than seeing someone reach for a leash and or lead to take me outside for a walk or just to play and roll in the grass. I am still working on my leash manners and I foresee in time, being able to be more patient and allow you to keep up with me. I have enjoyed roaming in the fenced in yard and smelling the roses, literally. I am happy to load up into the vehicle and go for rides. I love looking out the windows and sight seeing!During the day, while my foster folks are at work, I am happy to lay around my open crate in the same room with my foster sister while we wait for them to come home. I am learning to not jump when we get company or someone comes over due to my excitement and will, with patience, learn to be calmer. I slept in the crate at night a couple of times, but my foster mom got lonely, so I got in bed with her and my foster sister (she is 70 pounds! Talk about chonky!).I do seem to get along well with other dogs and recently went for a nail trim and there were several dogs there to meet and greet, and we all seemed to like each other and get along. The groomer and I bonded instantly, and I do make friends quickly. I am interested in the cat here, where I stay, but she doesn’t like me…you know how uppity some cats can be. I think my ideal human(s) would be either a quiet older person or a retired couple who could devote their time to me. I bond strongly with my special person and am looking for someone who can be home with me, and we can solve true crime shows together. I don’t care for sudden movements or loud noises and will be discerning about new people, so I don’t think that I would like to be around small children. I think that small people and their energy may be overwhelming to me, but I hear that’s typical for pups like me. I am a very smart boy who prefers routine and will alert (bark) when I want to go outside to potty or just get out of the house, of course I know that a treat is coming when I’ve been a “good boy”. So, what do you say? Wanna give it a try? I really need a bestie and someone to watch TV with. Please reach out soon!FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.**   Meet Ruthie!  Ruthie is a sweet 2-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix weighing in at just 19 pounds. She's spayed, up to date on all of her vaccinations, housebroken, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Ruthie's story hasn't been an easy one. She came from a hoarding situation where she had very little human interaction, so the world can still feel like a scary place. Because of this, she is extremely shy and takes time, patience, and understanding before she learns to trust new people. She isn't the kind of dog who will greet you with tail wags on day one—but if you're willing to let her move at her own pace, the reward is truly something special. Once Ruthie decides you're her person, she transforms into the biggest cuddle bug. She loves snuggling close and quietly soaking up all the love she missed out on early in life. One of her foster family's favorite milestones is hearing her excited little bark when breakfast and dinner are being prepared. It may seem like a small thing, but after spending her first two weeks showing almost no emotion, it was a huge sign that she was finally feeling safe and happy. Ruthie is very food and treat motivated, which has been a wonderful tool in helping build her confidence. Ruthie enjoys spending time outdoors, especially lounging in the sunshine. She does not enjoy walking on a leash and is considered a flight risk, so she will need a securely fenced yard where she can safely explore and relax. Because of her timid nature, she is looking for a patient, experienced adopter who understands fearful dogs and will give her the time she needs without rushing the process. She would love a confident canine companion to show her the ropes, but she could also thrive as an only dog with the right person. Ruthie has not been tested with cats or children. If you're looking for an instant companion, Ruthie may not be the right fit. But if you believe that love is earned, celebrate the little victories, and understand that the best relationships take time to grow, Ruthie will reward your patience with unwavering loyalty, endless cuddles, and the joy of watching a once-frightened dog truly blossom. Could you be the person to show Ruthie what forever feels like?   Ruthie’s adoption fee is $350.  This includes age appropriate vaccines, completed wellness visit, and microchip  *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Rock, a sweet and gentle boy who’s so ready for a second chance at life. Rock came to us from a partnered shelter where he was sadly at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space—but thankfully, he got the chance he deserved. Born around June 13, 2025, Rock is a terrier/dachshund mix with an adorable long body and a soft, submissive personality. He’s a friendly, easygoing pup who gets along with everyone he meets, making him a great fit for many types of homes. Rock would truly love a family of his own where he can feel safe and loved. He LOEVS his toy time with friends in the play yard. Rock did test positive for anaplasmosis (a tick-borne infection) and is currently undergoing treatment with doxycycline. This is a common and treatable condition, and he’s expected to do well with proper care. For more information, you can read here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=6191808 He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped, so he’s all set to start his new journey. His adoption fee is $400. Check out his video below! To apply, please visit www.adoggie4you.org and complete an application. Rock is currently in Texas but can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, KY, and locations along the East Coast.
