Story
Meet Merle! This old buddy is 10-11 years old and 35ish lbs. he’s a chill old guy who’s excellent with dogs and cats. He’s low maintenance as they come and the only hitch is he doesn’t have 100% control over his bladder. He happily wears a belly band though so we can’t complain. If you’re looking for an easy going senior companion, this is your guy. Merle is part of our Senior Soulmate Program. If he is adopted by a senior citizen, a generous donor will sponsor his adoption fee, and he will come with six months of heart worm protection.  All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   October 1, 2025, 7:32 am

Story
Hello everyone! I’ll like to introduce you to Kepler, the man, the myth, the legend! Kepler is a 3-year-old, 8lb miniature dachshund who is ready to steal your heart! Kepler recently ditched his unfortunate past living situation and has decided that he is ready for a life of love and relaxation! Kepler can be a bit shy and skittish around new people, but a few belly rubs will get this sweet boy out of his shell. Kepler is pretty easygoing, and would enjoy a life balanced with playtime and nap time. Kepler loves a warm bed and a friendly human! Kepler loves other dogs and cats, and has also shown little interest in bothering his pocket pet foster siblings. Kepler is a pretty chill guy! Kepler will open up better in a home with another dog or cat. He really brightens up when he has someone to play with. Kepler has not been too interested in toys yet, but he loves to get the zoomies with his foster dog siblings. As for training, Kepler is a pretty standard dachshund (also known as being stubborn). Kepler is a bit high maintenance and does not like the wet ground, or the recent snowfall. His foster parents shoveled a specific area of the yard just so he would go potty! Speaking of house training, Kepler is doing well with a regular routine but may occasionally mark, especially in new environments. As he becomes more comfortable, this behavior continues to improve, and he will benefit from a patient home that can provide continued support and consistency. Kepler is still a bit high-maintenance, though, and has never marked his own crate or bed (he has standards, of course). Kepler is crate trained and does enjoy his crate. Currently, this is the only way he feels comfortable eating his meals, but he is starting to get more bold every day. As for leash training, Kepler is not scared of the leash, but he doesn’t get the idea of a leash yet either. With continued training, Kepler will be ready for walks by summer. If you are looking for a sweet little dog that needs a second chance on life, then look no further! Kepler is here and ready to be your next best friend! Kepler is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. HIs adoption fee is $450. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Tex – Your Loyal Little Lookout! 🐾 Tex is an approximately 2-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (or at least that’s our best guess), and he’s the perfect blend of small size and big heart. This sweet boy came to us from a rural shelter where he was very shut down and scared. Since arriving in his foster home, Tex has truly blossomed into a much more relaxed and confident pup. Now that he knows he’s safe, Tex enjoys the comforts of home life: lounging around, following his humans, and hanging out with the other dogs in the house. He’s also curious about the cats, though if they dart off too quickly, he might give a bark or two to let them know he noticed. Tex is an excellent little alert dog who takes his job seriously. If something unusual is happening around the property or if a sneaky squirrel dares to raid the bird feeder, Tex will sound the alarm. He’s got a great nose for mischief and will keep your porch squirrel-free. Tex would thrive in a calm, low-activity home where he can build a strong bond with his adopter. Once he knows he’s safe and loved, he’ll likely become your loyal little shadow. Tex is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines and preventions. Please note: Tex is only eligible for local adoption in the San Antonio area at this time. It took him several months to fully warm up in his foster home, and we are hoping to find an adopter nearby. If any issues arise, we want to ensure we can easily bring him back into our care. If you are in the San Antonio area and looking for a sweet and loyal companion, Tex might just be the perfect fit. Go ahead and submit an adoption application for him now! $200 Local Adoption Fee

Story
Cleo will need to be the only dog in your home. She will need to be given time to adapt to her new surroundings and guided with a gentle, loving hand. She is a sweet girl that has had a rough start. UPDATE: Cleo is making great strides in her socialization. She is wagging her tail more and is allowing people to pet her. She is much more relaxed when people come up to her run! For more information please call the shelter at 513-753-9252.
