Story
Location: Medicine Hat Area// Age: 1 Year, 8 months// Sex: Spayed Female// Energy Level: Medium// Dogs: Yes, Gabby loves other dogs// Cats: Yes, but wants to be friebds and will chase// Kids: Yes// If sunshine could take dog form, it would look a lot like Gabby ☀️ This brown-eyed beauty is the definition of joy on four paws — playful, loving, and just the right mix of goofy and smart. Gabby spends her days romping around the yard with her foster playmate, trading zoomies for cuddle breaks and never turning down a snack (seriously… she’s very food-motivated 🍗). Gabby loves dogs, thinks cats are fascinating (dog-savvy cats only, please — she really wants to be friends!), and she’s a total sweetheart with kids. She’s the kind of pup who fits right in — whether it’s family movie night, a weekend hike, or a road trip to somewhere new. She’s spayed, vaccinated, and ready to find her forever people — the ones who will include her in all their adventures and love her for her playful, happy heart. Because honestly? Gabby isn’t just a good dog. She’s a great dog — the kind that makes every day brighter. 💛If you would like the opportunity to meet Gabby - please complete an application on our website and one of our volunteers will be in touch to arrange a phone call: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Story
Location: Edmonton, AB // Age: Approx 2 years old // Sex: Spayed female // Energy Level: Medium // Dogs: Yes! Cats: Yes! Kids: Not tested, but likely ok // Vetting: Up to date on vaccines // 🐶Once upon a time, Dio lived her life at the end of a chain. But those days are long behind her, and this brave, beautiful girl is busy discovering what it means to be a loved family dog — and honestly, she’s nailing it. 🌟Dio is a medium-energy, walk-loving, people-adoring little lady. If you like strolls around the neighborhood and being greeted with pure joy whenever you meet a friend on the sidewalk, she’s your girl. The only time she pulls on leash is when she spots a 🐇 “fast-moving fluffy thing of mystery” — otherwise, she’s a delight. 💛Inside the home, Dio is learning all the cozy comforts she missed out on. She’s house trained, sleeps soundly through the night (preferably snuggled right next to her human), and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and humans of all sizes. Her foster mom says she’s “so sweet and lovable… she’s perfect.” And honestly? We believe it. ✨Dio does have some puppy-ish habits — she may chew things she shouldn’t (shoes beware!), but with a patient family and some guidance, she’s eager to learn. She isn’t a fan of car rides yet, but she’s getting better every time. ✨Because Dio spent so much of her early life without companionship, she’d thrive in a home with another dog buddy to play with and learn from. She loves walks, toys, playtime, and soaking up affection like a little love sponge. ✨If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal best friend who will adore you endlessly, Dio is ready to start her happily-ever-after. 💛 She’s survived a tough beginning — now she deserves a future full of love, comfort, and adventure. ✨If you would like to chat more with us about Dio and set up a meet and greet, please complete an application on our website and one of our volunteers will be in touch. https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Bali's been trying to make a snowman...sure would be helpful if he had opposable thumbs. 🤔 Bali has been loving the snow, there's so much to do with it! Trying to catch the snowflakes as they land, making little doggy-angels on the ground, though Bali's favourite part might be getting to curl up under the blankets afterwards! ⛄ Bali is only 6 months old, he's looking for a home he can keep exploring and being his charming self. Bali is a wonderful, curious, clever, and friendly pup that would make an excellent addition to any family. He makes a great little or big brother, too! 🌴 Interested in setting up a meet and greet? Please reach out to us through email or phone! Looking for more information? You can find Bali on our website at wildrosehumane.ca 🐾 Even if you can't adopt, just by sharing you may help Bali find his human! 💕

Story
Location: Didsbury, AB// Age: Approx 5 years// Size: Small// Sex: Neutred Male// Energy level: Low// Vaccines: Up to date// Dogs: Yes// Cats: Yes// Kids: Kids 15+// Toto has been in long-term foster care with our rescue’s founder for about two years, and during that time he has made incredible progress. When he first arrived, his foster couldn’t even come within a few feet of him for the first six months. With patience, love, and positive reinforcement, Toto has slowly learned that the world—and people—can be safe. Toto is still a very fearful boy, especially when it comes to physical touch. Most of the time he prefers to keep his distance, but when he does choose to snuggle, he shows so much love. In those moments, you can tell just how badly he wants to be cuddled and cherished, even if it’s scary for him. Recently, he’s even started sitting on his foster mom’s lap once in a while when he’s feeling brave. These tender milestones are proof of how far he’s come. Toto has also started exploring his backyard—something he couldn’t do before. He is a very routine-oriented boy who thrives on predictability and the security of knowing what to expect each day. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body—he’s incredibly sweet and gentle. New people don’t seem to scare him as long as they give him space; from a distance, he seems perfectly content having humans around. While Toto isn’t comfortable going for walks and finds the leash and outside world overwhelming, he has recently allowed his harness and leash to be put on slowly if needed for a car ride. Getting in the car is tough, but once he’s in his foster family’s car or camper, curled up in his bed, he’s happy to be part of the adventure. He no longer needs his crate, either—another big step forward! Most nights, he sleeps in bed with his foster parents or in his dog bed nearby. Toto eats a special dehydrated food that works best for him since many of his teeth have been removed. One of his most endearing quirks is his pre- and post-meal “happy dance”—a little wiggle and shuffle that never fails to make his foster family smile. Toto’s progress may be slow and steady, but he is a completely different dog today than he was two years ago. He may always be a work in progress, and it’s possible he will remain a forever Ruff Start resident—but he is still adoptable to the right home. Toto needs: An adopter with experience working with very fearful or previously feral dogs. A quiet, predictable home with a fully fenced yard. A slow, patient transition into his new home. Someone who understands that Toto may never be a typical snuggly dog, but who will celebrate every small step forward. Toto is good with other dogs, respectful cats, and would do best in a calm home with no young children. What he needs most is safety, stability, and unconditional love. If you have the heart and patience to continue Toto’s journey and give him a safe place to land, he just might be the perfect match for you. If you think your home would be a good match for Toto, please complete an adoption application on our website and one of our team members will be in touch with you shortly via email to arrange a phone interview.

Story
Puka – Smart, Social, and Ready for Her Forever Home 🐾 Location: Medicine Hat // Breed: Jack Russell Terrier Mix // Sex: Spayed Female // Age: Approx 1 year// Weight: 22lbs // Dogs: Yes, she loves dogs! // Cats: Only tested quickly but did great // Kids: Tested with dog savvy kids 6-12 and did well // Energy Level: Moderate – thrives with daily activity and mental stimulation // 🐾Biography: Puka is a bright, affectionate, and eager-to-learn Jack Russell mix who is ready to find an active and engaged home. While she enjoys relaxing with her foster family and they describe her as "chill", Puka is an intelligent breed mix who does best with regular exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation. She loves the outdoors—especially snow—and her favorite activity is playing fetch. She happily returns the ball and is motivated to learn new skills. Puka walks well on leash, greeting people with polite curiosity, and she enjoys the company of other dogs. She has done well with children aged 6–12 and is comfortable with both men and women. She has met a cat briefly and showed no inappropriate behavior after the initial greeting. 🐾Home Life & Training: Puka is crate trained, sleeping quietly through the night and settling well when left for short periods. She is doing very well with her house training with proactive routines in place. She travels calmly in the car and adapts quickly to new routines, demonstrating her intelligence and willingness to learn. She is currently working on foundational training such as recall, “leave it,” and gaining additional life experience. 🐾Ideal Home: Puka would do best in a home that can meet her physical and mental stimulation needs - walks, play sessions, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training. An active individual, couple, or family with dog-savvy children would be a great fit. She would enjoy living with another friendly, playful dog but would also do well as an only dog if her people are home often. 🐾Summary: Puka is an affectionate, intelligent, and well-mannered young dog with a wonderful foundation. With continued enrichment and structure, she will thrive as a loving companion. She is ready for a home that will appreciate her mix of sweetness, smarts, and playful enthusiasm. If you would like to meet Puka, please complete an application on our website and our team will be in touch. https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Story
Location: Olds, AB // Age: Approx 1.5 years // Size: Small (Approx 12 lbs) // Sex: Spayed female // Energy level: Medium // Dogs: Yes // Cats: Untested - likely ok // Kids: No // Meet Camila — The Pocket-Sized Velcro Princess 💛 If you’ve ever wished for a tiny shadow who loves you more than anything in the world, Camila is ready to apply for the job! 🐾 Camila is a small, sweet, shy and seriously snuggly little girl who believes the best place on earth is right on your lap—or better yet, pressed under your chin like a tiny, furry neck warmer. She’s the definition of a companion dog and would happily spend her days lounging, napping, and supervising your life from the comfort of your arms. But don’t be fooled—this little lovebug has a playful side too! Once a day she’ll spring to life and play with toys or with a fellow small dog friend (shout-out to George, her current favourite playmate 💕). She doesn't mind other dogs and will happily coexist, but her heart belongs to people. If you give her even five minutes of your time, prepare to have a dedicated little barnacle attached to you forever. 🐾 Her Ideal Home: Camila dreams of a quiet home with someone who’s around often and appreciates lap companion. Kids and teenagers make her nervous —so an adults-only home is a must for this tiny queen. 🐾 The Details: Energy: Low–medium. Professional cuddler with one daily burst of zoomy joy. Walking: Lovely on leash and happy to trot along. Other Dogs: Indifferent, but enjoys gentle small friends. Handling: LOVES her person and will stick like glue. House Training: Pee pad trained and working on outdoor potty training in the cold. Cars: Great passenger. Best Qualities: Sweet, happy, affectionate, adaptable, and instantly devoted. 🐾 Camila does jump up for attention and needs a bit of guidance there, but she is such a loving, happy little soul who settles in quickly and makes herself right at home. 🐾 If you’re looking for a tiny companion who will adore you endlessly, keep your lap warm, and be your loyal little sidekick, Camila can’t wait to meet you. 💛🐾 Complete an application on our website to set up a meet and greet: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form
