Story
Hello! I'm Smokey Blue and I have a story to tell. Grab your coffee and settle in. It's a doozy of a story already, and I'm only 1.5 years old! But, you know what, I tell my story of great loss with my head held high because I just know my Forever Family is out there looking for me. I had a first home when I was a young puppy and they didn't have a fence. I wandered out of the yard a few times when I was unsupervised and they got into trouble -- so I got surrendered to Desert Haven. Are you sitting there thinking, "Umm just supervise your puppy or build a fence?!" Ya, I thought the same thing! But that's OK. I don't dwell on the bad stuff because I'm an optimistic young dog with a bright future ahead of me. Fast forward a few months: A wonderful family came to meet me while I was living at Desert Haven and decided to adopt me. I loved living with this family! In this family I had a human sibling, a dog sibling, chickens, and loving parents. They said I was super snuggly and liked sleeping in the bed with them. We went on walks together and I was very good on the leash. I had a lot of toys to play with and was a great brother to my dog sibling. I like to have a lot of attention and they gave it to me. We all lived well together for months and months; it was grand! No one is really sure why I started my behaviors, and everyone was very surprised I started doing them -- but here are the facts. I started to get reactive to some people. Thankfully, my family intervened so no one got hurt. My family loved me to pieces and they said I'm a Great Dog -- but they decided not to pursue training or help for my behaviors. So now I'm back at Desert Haven. UGH! Here I am, Smokey Blue, young and confused about things. My family raved about having me as their dog! They love me this I know. But what I need now is a family who knows I have this tendency toward protection and who commits to guiding me through it. I'm young and trainable and eager to please my humans. I am Smokey Blue, Great Dog! Here we go, Third Times The Charm! Are you the family for me? Will you commit to me? Yes? Come on over to meet me then! Love, Smokey Blue

Story
Hi! I'm Roxie. I'm a slim girl of about 45 pounds and I'm a little over one-year-old. I'm a beautiful and sweet and gentle little lady with a heart of gold. I have this knack for making people happy and making people smile. I have this giving and generous energy that just spills over from me onto the people around me. When I share my love with you, I promise you'll feel like you've won the Jackpot PowerBall Millions because my love is actually that special! I became a loving girl with a heart of gold despite my start in life which didn't come with an iota of specialness afforded to me. That means that even though I was not given any special attention in my first year of life from my human, I persevered, hoping that some day in the not too distant future I'd be chosen as the Apple of Someone's Eye and become the Yin to their Yang, the Peanut Butter to their Jelly. That's actually something important to know about me: my resilience. And also, feeding me a peanut butter and jelly isn't a half bad idea, recommend! I got rescued and helped and now I'm living at Desert Haven and experiencing love and care from humans for the first time. Woo hoo! I love it! And I finally got a name! My name is Roxie. Oh boy, that feels good to say! My name is Roxie! I'm Roxie, a Great Girl! Because of the patience from some of the volunteers here at Desert Haven I've learned to be leashed, learned to go for walks, learned to be petted, learned to be cuddled, learned to give kisses, learned to ride in the car, learned to come back to get re-leashed when I'm in a play-yard, learned to go through a doorway and walk through a home, and learned that I love hotdogs and will do just about anything for hotdogs! I'll continue to fully participate in all my lessons on being a family dog who is loved and cherished. I am eager to become proficient and am an excellent student! You're invited to come to meet me and see for yourself what a sweetheart I am! I assure you, it's legendary! Love, Roxie
