Story
Franklin is a friendly two-year-old male found as a stray.  He is very affectionate ~ maybe even a lap cat!Every PALS cat and kitten has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and is up-to-date on vaccinations. A note about kittens: if you are adopting a kitten, they may need to complete their FVRCP (distemper) series and may not be old enough for their rabies vaccination. These essential vaccines will be the responsibility of their new owner. Detailed vet records and a calendar of vaccination due dates will be provided. The PALS Adoption Center, located inside PetSmart at 10 Traders Way in Salem, MA (just off Highland Ave/Rte 107) BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO APPROVED ADOPTERS.  Adoption applications can be found online at www.palscats.org.  A completed application is not necessarily an approved application. We do ask for written landlord approval if you rent, or proof of home ownership (water bill, etc.) We will also check your vet references.  You will be contacted by our adoption staff once your application has been approved.  Please note it can take up to 48 hours. Our online sites are updated regularly, but we can not guarantee that a cat you see here is still available. Please email if you have any questions regarding the adoption process or our available cats and kittens. PALS is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue group. Each and every cat and kitten has been rescued locally. March 19, 2025, 12:23 pm

Story
Leo is looking for a home that will give him time to get to know his new family. Leo’s ideal home would be quiet, with cat savvy humans who can offer patience and understanding while he adjusts to his new surroundings as he likes to do it. He can be fearful when approached in a new space and needs his humans to know how to handle this. Once he is comfortable, he can be quite talkative and will seek you out for some head scratches. At the shelter, he has been living in one of our staff offices and has become quite social and affectionate now that he has learned to trust us. If you are coming to the shelter to meet him, please let us know when you are here so we can introduce you!

Story
I acquired Nick from a friend when he was 2 months old. Right now he should be about 5 months old (04/2025). I’m looking for someone who will let him free to explore the house, and who is patient. He does bite and scratch in a playful way since he used to live with his brothers. Maybe if you have another cat it would be a good fit.

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Lasagna is a sweet 1 year old medium haired girl. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Lasagna is a gentle and sweet cat who spends half of her time napping, quarter of the time receiving pets, and the other quarter of the time playing. Although she can be shy and timid, she can also be very friendly, and of course, orange! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! Lasagna enjoys being pet. After some time of being pet, she likes to purr and knead! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She likes head and neck areas, as well as her back. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn’t particularly like being touched on the paw or the stomach, and will gently pull her paw away or roll back to prevent you from petting her more.   Does the cat come on your lap? Lasagna does not like to be on my lap. She will immediately jump off. Does the cat like to be held? Lasagna tolerates being held for short amounts of time. After a few seconds, she will start wiggling to get out of my hand. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Lasagna will come up to the bed with me and keep me company for an hour or so, but soon takes off to more playing, adventures, and sleeping in the cat house. Does the cat seek your attention? She definitely seeks my attention when she needs something! She makes the cutest meow, and will hang around near your feet until she gets what she wants. Usually, it is for food. Does the cat like to play? Lasagna is definitely a very playful cat. She loves chasing after springs for hours, catching fishing rod toys (even if she isn’t the greatest hunter), and likes to tear apart catnip toys! What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Chasing springs is one of her favorite activities. She can dash around playing with them for hours! Or until the spring goes missing. How vocal is the cat? She is a little bit vocal. She will meow for attention, but they are pretty soft and short. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? The only sound I’ve heard her make are meows. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? She sometimes uses the scratcher. Lasagna also scratches on the doormat, the carpet of her cat tower, and sometimes my couch. Does the cat always use the litter box? Lasagna uses the litter box most of the time. If no, please explain. She has an interesting habit of peeing in the bathtub. She peed in the bathtub when she first arrived at my house and was staying in the bathroom. After she graduated the bathroom and started roaming around the house, I kept the bathroom door closed. One night, I forgot to close the bathroom door, and the next morning, I found that she had peed in the bathtub again! I suggest keeping the bathroom closed, so that Lasagna won’t be tempted to pee in your bathtub. Otherwise, she uses the litter box well. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She is currently eating the Fancy Feast grilled beef, and Fancy Feast Petites roasted turkey and sweet potatoes. She eats about half a small can in the morning, and the other half in the evening. I have dry food out for her to access at all times, but she doesn’t eat it often. She does not eat a lot, and is not motivated strongly by food. Is the cat picky about food? Lasagna is pretty picky with her food and treats. She will absolutely not eat the food/treat if it doesn’t smell good to her. I still am trying to figure out which ones she likes the best, but so far have been successful with the Fancy Feast grilled beef, and Fancy Feast Petites roasted turkey and sweet potatoes. What is the cat's favorite treat? She is not the biggest fan of treats and isn’t very motivated by food. I’ve had success with Churu (only the tuna and shrimp flavor), and Greenies filled with tuna. Even with those flavors, she often declines treats, especially if she has recently eaten. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes, when she wants to be pet, or doesn’t want to be pet, or wants food. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Lasagna will hide for a few hours when there is a new person. However, she will eventually come out to spy on the visitor! Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Lasagna is a polydactyl! She has 6 toes on her front paws, and 5 toes on her back paws. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? If you want a cat that looks like a mighty lion with six toes, this is your cat! Despite her looks, Lasagna is a gentle, shy and sweet cat, and will surprise you with her cute personality. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The challenges I’ve had with Lasagna are very minor, which are that she doesn’t like to eat very much, and that she peed in my bathtub twice. Otherwise, she is an excellent cat!   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 21, 2025, 11:24 am

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Patsy is a sweet 1 year old girl. She is spayed, tested, up to date on vaccines and ready for her new life! Here’s what her Foster Volunteer says about her after 1 week in foster care:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Patsy is very sweet and in my two weeks of knowing her, has slowly started to come out of her shell. She is very affectionate, but can be skittish if you make any sudden movements, though I've seen a lot of progress on this since I've known her. She loves being pet, looking out the window   Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes. At first she was timid, but now she seeks out pets/attention.   If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Around her head/ears.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Not as far as I can see.   Does the cat come on your lap? Not my lap but she does sleep right at my feet and will come approach me if I'm sitting down and want to be pet.   Does the cat like to be held? She does let me hold her (she doesn't meow or anything) but can get squeamish and I think she prefers just being pet while she's lying down.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? When I first got her she slept under the bed, but now she sleeps in bed usually at my feet or by my head.   Does the cat seek your attention? During the day she will walk near me  and rub her head around the furniture and look at me for attention.   Does the cat like to play? She has slowly started getting more playful, I have a few toys she's been liking, but she's still a bit apprehensive.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? I have some feather like toys that are attached to a fishing line that she seems interested in!   How vocal is the cat? She is very quiet. She meowed when I first got her from the shelter, but otherwise has been very quiet. She sometimes meows as I'm getting her food ready.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes.   Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, she has been really good with the litter box.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She is on a wet food in the morning and a dry food at night. She seems like a good eater but definitely prefers the wet food.   Is the cat picky about food? She doesn't seem to be picky and always eats her meals.   What is the cat's favorite treat? I have tried a few different treats- salmon and chicken - but she doesn't seem too interested in either.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No.   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No.   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? More timid, but so far she has only met two new people. With the latest person she did let them pet her.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Patsy is incredibly sweet and loving, I think she just needs more time to come out of her shell but will be a great cat to have. She's quiet, very sweet, affectionate and I think she will have a more playful side as she gets comfortable.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Her biggest challenge is just her shyness/fearfulness. I have been slow with her and letting her adjust at her own pace. Giving her small bits of attention and pets throughout the day seems to help. She's made a lot of progress here though!
