Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi I'm Waddles. Someone thought I had a funny walk, thus the name. I'm a gorgeous fluffy boy who's been in PAWS care since March. I was rescued from outdoors. I kept showing up on a nice lady's door bell camera and I was always ravenous. I am physically ready for my forever home but I have to tell you, I'm very shy. I have a super foster mom who lets me hang out with her while she works quietly from home. I've been watching and assessing her for some time. I just recently tried eating from her hand a little, but I won't let her pet me yet. So you can see I still need more time. Are you a cat whisperer with lots of patience and kindness? If so, I think we should talk more.

Skittish, cautious, playful when lounging, friendly (when feeling safe), and independent. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Probably.  It’s taken two months to gain his trust but finally I’m able to stroke the top of his head very gently with either my hand or a soft bristle “dusting” brush. Does the cat come on your lap? No Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, he has his own room and anyway the bed is off-limits. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, he’ll quietly call out from the other room (his room) to try to get me to let him out. When I’m on the couch, he comes near and sometimes just stares up at me. Does the cat like to play?   Yes, he likes to scramble around after a treat when you throw it.  I think it’s his favorite thing to do in the world.  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He loves when treats are thrown across the room and he has to go “hunt” for them. Also, he gets catnip time just before bed. How vocal is the cat? He hadn’t made a sound for 2 weeks after he arrived. I kept him on a routine with feeding where I call ‘Dinnertime!’ One day I heard him quietly call back “Meeeeeeeeep.”  We do this every night now. What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Meeeeeeeeep.  That’s it. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? I think so. He scratches the rug until I tell him to stop. Does the cat always use the litter box? No, at first, he missed a few times.  I noticed that this happened when the box was already used. Getting a 2nd box helped. If no, please explain. He doesn’t have a problem using the litter box, but rather he intentionally, urinates outside his box.  He doesn’t spray, he just leaves a puddle.  See more in the ’Challenges’ Q&A below. Does the cat ever swat, scratch, or nip at you?  No. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He actually likes to watch TV. He plops right down in front of the screen and pays attention. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  He likes to be near and watch me studiously, but he doesn’t demand attention. He wanders, plays, sleeps, eats, and explores totally on his own. He seems unsure of what to make of petting.  I think it’s growing on him. He’s quite uniquely handsome even with his partial tail.  It’s like a cat with a deer’s tail. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Tank will take a considerable amount of time to feel safe and confident in his new home, but has shown such resilience during his time in foster. The bigger challenge is his urinating.  3 -4 times a week he urinates in his room, typically overnight. It seems to be mostly in the form of a small puddle of urine on something that is left on the floor.  On the other hand, each day, I let him out into the big room of the apartment and he’s free to roam play and do whatever he likes. In the big room, he hasn’t urinated inappropriately. So, based on this, I think he feels compelled (force of habit) to mark only his property. What do you think the cat's ideal living situation would be?   I think a place with people nearby that he can listen and watch but not where he’s constantly subjected to interaction and touching.  He should have somewhere where he can have a room (or a bit of “private property”) to himself.   He really seems to love predictable routines and structured attention.
