Story
A gorgeous 4.5 year-old long-haired tuxedo, Percy is elegance personified from “start to finish”. Start with those long white whiskers that frame his handsome face with its smart white accent stripe. Move along his sturdy young body with its shiny black coat. Finish with his LUSH plume of a tail. Percy is a major leg rubber. While down for a few pets and ear scratches, he will mostly do the work for you - butting your hand to work over his head and chin, then curling round and round your ankles. Best to be a person steady on your feet when gets going; the boy’s part Boa! When he is happy, over he goes to show off his pretty white tummy for a couple of rubs - a couple only, he’ll let you know ! He’ll do best in a home with adults and older children who will understand a cat’s body language. He isn’t opposed to being picked up or lap-sitting, but they aren’t his goals. Lying in the sun and sitting in an open window watching the world go by are more his wont. He is a very quiet boy; the little chirps at birds and squirrels are his only sounds. “Cats are Finnicky Eaters” is a marketing slogan lost on Percy. He is an enthusiastic eater, never met a cat food brand or flavor that he didn’t like. Loves to lick all the gravy off of wet food, then returns later for “the meat course”. And like all kitties, he will turn himself inside out for a Churo! In his former life, Percy had been a buddy to another cat so we think that he would do well with a playful cat who needs a companion.

Story
Meet Cheddah! They have been waiting patiently at the shelter for their perfect adopter to come along. You are welcome to enter our cat rooms during open hours. Staff and volunteers will be happy to assist you! Cheddah has spent some time in a foster home, where he was described as a perfect, snuggly, playful, chatty, loving companion! Cheddah is diabetic. Their adopter will need to work closely with their veterinarian to keep them regulated. Adopting a diabetic cat may seem daunting at first, but when their condition is well managed it`s relatively simple to maintain, and the love and affection you`ll receive in return makes it all worth it.

Story
Peter is a beautiful long haired man (except better, because he’s a cat) that came to us from a complicated 17 cat neglect situation. He isn’t a scared sort of guy, but he definitely doesn’t quite trust humans yet and prefers to hang out on his own. HOWEVER, we can confirm that he is easily bribed with mealtime and catnip sessions. Because of the aforementioned complicated situation, Peter is one of the cats that has possibly not seen much sunlight in years. He generally prefers the safety of his room, and because of this we recommend a quiet home with no kids or dogs. He does get along with all types of cat personalities though! If you’d perhaps be interested in adopting TWO seniors from the 17-cat situation, may we recommend Peter and his sister, Penny? They are not bonded, but would do well together  Every PALS cat and kitten has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and is up-to-date on vaccinations. A note about kittens: if you are adopting a kitten, they may need to complete their FVRCP (distemper) series and may not be old enough for their rabies vaccination. These essential vaccines will be the responsibility of their new owner. Detailed vet records and a calendar of vaccination due dates will be provided. The PALS Adoption Center, located inside PetSmart at 10 Traders Way in Salem, MA (just off Highland Ave/Rte 107) BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO APPROVED ADOPTERS.  Adoption applications can be found online at www.palscats.org.  A completed application is not necessarily an approved application. We do ask for written landlord approval if you rent, or proof of home ownership (water bill, etc.) We will also check your vet references.  You will be contacted by our adoption staff once your application has been approved.  Please note it can take up to 48 hours. Our online sites are updated regularly, but we can not guarantee that a cat you see here is still available. Please email if you have any questions regarding the adoption process or our available cats and kittens. PALS is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue group. Each and every cat and kitten has been rescued locally. July 16, 2026, 7:16 am

Story
I adopted Heidi in 2016 when she had just turned one. She is truly the most beautiful and sweetest cat I’ve ever known, and I grew up with cats and know many. She’s warm, affectionate, and easily opens up to newcomers. Heidi just wants to brushed, loved on, and explore, but mostly lounge around. She is so easy to care for because she simply wants to be around you and requests nothing more. Anyone who chooses Heidi to join their family is so very lucky.

Story
Emerson is a beautiful tabby cat with orange highlights. She is incredibly sweet and affectionate, but skittish around new people and groups- in those cases you will find her tucked safely into a closet or under the bed.A little background on the reason for rehoming:I adopted Emerson from the MSPCA in August of 2013 alongside her littermate and brother. For the first 8 years, they were thick as thieves. When we moved in 2021, they never quite got the harmony back. This has caused her a lot of stress and she had litterbox issues and withdrew. She was successfully fostered for about 2 years (no behavior issues!) but the woman became ill. I would like to find Emerson a peaceful and permanent home.Emerson has a calm disposition. A perfect lap cat and enjoys cuddling all day. She is playful with feather toys and loves to meow for food. Does not do well with other cats/dogs and is scared of children. She would do best in a calm home with one or two adults. Message for more details!
