Gerty arrived weighing 23 pounds and is currently on a dedicated weight-loss journey, complete with a special diet and fun exercise routines like chasing her kibble and enjoying supervised hallway strolls. She’s making progress and taking it one step at a time. While Gerty may be a big girl, her personality is even bigger. She likes to take introductions at her own pace—offer her your hand so she can sniff and get to know you first. Once she trusts you, Gerty transforms into a total lovebug, happily shadowing her favorite people. When she’s comfortable, she eagerly greets staff at the gate and enjoys being close to those she loves. Gerty is accustomed to being the only pet and would thrive as a single cat or possibly with another calm, easygoing feline companion. Due to her current size, she needs a little extra help with grooming and receives routine “butt baths” to keep her comfortable while she continues her weight-loss journey. To best support Gerty and her adopters, she will go home in a foster-to-adopt placement, allowing us to continue assisting with her weight management before finalizing the adoption. We are seeking a committed forever home where Gerty can continue to slim down, blossom, and enjoy life with the family who will love her for years to come.
