🐾 Meet Calvin — The Thoughtful Little Genius Looking for His Forever Family
Calvin may not always be the first dog to charge into a new situation—but give him a little time, and you’ll discover an incredibly sweet, smart, playful boy who has been quietly figuring everything out.
Calvin tends to be a little more reserved when he first meets someone or encounters something unfamiliar. He likes to observe, think things through, and sometimes check in with the other dogs around him to see how they’re reacting. Once he decides everything is okay, though, that reserved little guy quickly starts showing his affectionate, playful personality.
And once Calvin loves you, you’ve got yourself a wonderful little buddy.
He is making great progress with housebreaking and will go to the door when he needs to potty. In fact, Calvin has taken things one impressive step further—he has learned to ring bells to ask to go outside!
He already knows SIT and is working on DOWN, and he loves training. Calvin is also very food motivated, which means treats are both delicious snacks and highly effective negotiating tools. He enjoys praise, playing with toys, roughhousing a little, and especially playing with other dogs.
He does great in his kennel, too. Offer him a treat and he’ll go inside and settle down right away.
Calvin has a nice medium energy level. He’s ready for playtime when the opportunity arises, but he also knows that life doesn’t have to be one continuous puppy party. Once the playing is finished, he’s perfectly capable of settling down and relaxing.
But the story that really shows just how clever Calvin is involves his foster family’s electronic doggy doorbell.
Their dogs have been trained to press the doorbell when they want to come inside. Nobody sat Calvin down for an official “Introduction to Doorbell Technology” class. Instead, Calvin simply watched the other dogs.
Apparently, that was enough.
One day, Calvin and his brother were outside by themselves when suddenly…
DING DONG!
His foster family looked toward the door, and there stood Calvin, staring proudly inside as if to say, “Excuse me. I believe this is how you summon the humans?”
He had figured it out entirely by watching the other dogs. 😂
That little moment perfectly captures Calvin. He’s observant, intelligent, thoughtful, and eager to learn. He may take a moment to understand a new person or situation, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet and playful personality comes shining through.
Calvin is looking for a forever family that will give him a little patience when something is new, continue helping that clever brain of his grow, and give him all the love, playtime, praise, and companionship he deserves.
He’s already figured out how to ring the bell when he wants the door to open.
Now he just needs someone to open the door to his forever home. 🐾❤️

If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile above.
After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below:
Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey.
A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below)
The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location.
Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier.
