Story
Meet Brooke...she is a female German Shepherd that we carried into the shelter after we found her outside. She either couldn't or wouldn't walk. We took her into our veterinarian and they were uncertain what could be the problem. According to them it could be hip dysplasia, neurological, Degenerative myelopathy, or psychological. We think psychological is definitely part of it because she is going for walks with the volunteers every day. Please visit the Taylor Animal Shelter to meet her.

Story
We adopted Cooper from an animal rescue when he was a puppy. He came all the over from Texas! He is such a sweet boy he loves to run around the backyard and sunbathe. He is easily excitable but also loves to relax and snuggle with you. We unfortunately have to rehome him due to his aggression towards our young daughter. He has bitten her once before and he snarls at her if she gets too close to him. We have had pet sitters watch him when we are gone and he does well with older children or teenagers. He needs to be in a home where there is no small children. He gets along with our other dog but he does not like groups of dogs such as a doggie daycare. He has food aggression towards other dogs. He has not shown aggression towards cats but he gets fixated on them and chases them. He would likely do better in a house without other animals. He also has hypothyroidism so he will need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of his life.

Story
Hi! My name is Rusty, and I'm a big, sweet shepherd mix looking for my forever home. I have just the right amount of energy-not too lazy, but not bouncing off the walls either. I've proven to be the perfect jogging partner and would love to come home afterward to curl up on the couch with you! I'm mostly potty trained when given frequent breaks and don't exhibit any destructive behaviors. When I'm indoors, I'm mainly interested in napping. I would also make a great watchdog, as I'm very alert to my surroundings. My favorite activity here at FMAR is playing fetch with tennis balls in the yard-I could play for hours! I'm also a great walker when using a nose loop, especially with a bit of encouragement from my handler. Even though I'm a big boy, I'm really just a big baby at heart! I would thrive in a moderately active home where I can get some exercise and enjoy cuddle time on the couch with my family.I prefer a calmer environment so a home with children aged 9 years and older is perfect for me. I've gone on pack walks and played with other dogs here, but I prefer those that are just as interested in playing with me. This means I could potentially go home with a dog brother or sister, given we have a proper introduction. Due to my high prey drive, I don't think cats would be a good fit for my forever home.If you're looking for a loving companion who's both playful and affectionate, I might be the perfect match for you! I can't wait to meet you!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you would like to meet Rusty, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care I have received.**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
