Story
Minka is 6 years old and very athetic and a real sweatheart when she gets to know you . She gets along well with my golden retriever who she has been with since she was a puppy . We got her from a breeder when she was 9 weeks old . I am moving and as she is a loud and very persistent barker and I can not have her there . She has a very stong prey drive and chases anything in the yard . She harasses my cat but has never hurt him .My wife and daughter passed away in 2019 . I am in my 70's and I worry there would be no one to take care of them should something happen to me. It has become overwhelming taking care of them. She weighs 75 lbs.

Story
Minka is a sweet and lovable girl to me and the people she knows but appears to be aggressive to strangers and anything not familiar to her. She has a very loud bark and barks at everything. She loves to play and is very athletic with no health issues . She needs to be in a home where she is the only dog.

Story
GSD/Husky/Lab/Catahoula mixFour year old Dexter W. is a mixture of Labrador, GSD, Husky and Catahoula. His former owner’s parents have recently taken him in and he is just too much dog for them. They describe him as “a fun, smart and energetic companion. He loves to be near us and is a loyal best friend who loves to play.”  They believe he would be best with a family with older children or a family of young adults because of his energy level.  He has never been around cats. Please include your phone number if you would like to hear more about Dexter W. May 27, 2023, 2:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ARCHER was transferred to GaDaH with his two siblings from a shelter in Texas.     ARCHER is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick tested negative. He is on monthly prevention, microchipped, has an estimated date of birth of 6 December 2021 and at the  time of transport weighed 45 pounds. We have no way of knowing what the actual breed is, so it is up to people to look at the pictures and video's to make up their own mind. ARCHER is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550.   This adoption fee covers the cost of running a brick and mortar rescue as well as any transport, veterinary, food, treats, toys costs and the many expenses that rescues endure to keep the pets in their care safe, and happy.   Be sure to read all his information and if interested, go to the rescue website to submit an adoption application. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 After being at the rescue since August 2022, Archer started 2023 by going to stay with a foster family in Maine, however in the middle of February after 7-8 weeks he came back to the rescue as the family hadn't expected to have him that long and things were not working out. Notes from Foster family where Archer was for 7 weeks before coming back to the rescue. Archer has only been here for three weeks but is probably the best foster dog anyone could hope for. He was very nervous at first, and remains uncertain about changes or loud noises but is much better.   He's an active dog but smart and able to reign it in. In the long term, he might prefer a home with a younger dog but in the short term having a quiet environment is allowing him to learn to sit and learn his name with little distraction. He loves to play with Zephyr when Zephyr has the oomph, but will settle for us when he needs to!   He does seem to prefer women (aka, me) but this may be because I'm home all the time and Henry comes and goes. We're going to have a couple people over this week to see if he gravitates towards women who AREN'T me.   He likes walks, but hates leashes. He is learning MUCH faster to walk on a leash than Zephyr ever did. This afternoon we'll take them both down to the lower pastures and let them run in an empty one. He's good at making his own toys and likes things that come apart more than rubbery things that survive his chewing! He loves my kindling pile and will help himself when need be! He is also very good about trying to keep all his toys outside and continues to seem surprised when I tell him he can play inside.   He is not very food driven, but is praise driven and eager to please. He is really smart, learns quickly and is all-round a lovely boy. The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavors. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! &#226&#128&#139You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet/greet/adopt Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
