Story
Hey there it's me Ursula and I am looking for a home. I came in as a stray and have no background history, but here are some things you should know about me. I am a dog that will need a patient and understanding adopter who is willing to give me the time and space if needed. I am very nervous girl who will avoid and or give clear signs when uncomfortable so taking things slow is KEY as I eventually do warm up. I enjoy other dogs company as long as they are low-key dogs and a home that is on the quiet side. I would do best with older kids who would understand and know when I am uncomfortable. If you are willing to give me a chance I am sure I can come around very quickly. Come by and or call and ask about me. I will be waiting Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 73.375 Age: 6yrs 1mths 3wks

Meet Maya! Maya is an adorable lady looking for her forever home. Maya is quite a scaredy cat and will need a home that is able to work with her and socialize her so she can understand that not everything is so scary! Maya has not had great interactions with dogs here at the shelter, so we do require her to meet any dogs in the home, though she may be best as the only dog in the home. Because of her fearful nature, we do ask that any kids in the home be older than 12 as we feel older children will be able to read her signals a little better. Come to the ARL today and adopt Maya! Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Weight: 63.1 Age: 4yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
We are hopeful that you remember the sad tale of sweet Stormy. This lovely girl was surrendered to the open intake shelter in Philadelphia with a terrible injury to her eye.  Her injury was more than the veterinary staff at the shelter could handle or properly treat so she was quickly timestamped.  We saw her and knew she deserved a second chance. Stormy went into a foster home and was evaluated by one of our vet partners and scheduled for her surgery. Her eye could not be saved and was removed successfully. Stormy had no vision in that damaged eye so removing it has not altered her life in anyway This sweet girl has endured so much and she is now ready for her forever home. Can you imagine any pup more deserving?  Stormy is a husky/shep mix who is thought to be about 3 years old.  Some of Stormy’s favorite things are belly rubs, cuddles, getting brushed and going on car rides. She walks beautifully on leash, takes treats very gently, with no issues whatsoever with resource guarding.  She knows many basic commands, which comes in very handy when she sees squirrels and bunnies and follows the leave it command beautifully! Stormy is learning what toys are and how to play with them.  She is working very hard on house training and does use pads when her foster mama is away from the home for work. Some things that Stormy does not enjoy:  being confined in her crate (she will go in and lay down as long as the door is left open). She does not enjoy a Mani Pedi so assistance will be needed and most importantly, Stormy does not enjoy being left home alone long periods of time. She is looking for a family that is either retired or someone who works from home.  She loves all humans, both tiny and adult. Stormy gets so excited when she meets other doggies that her play style can be a little over the top, so if there is another dog in the home, they would need to be a young, playful dog that could keep up with her. Due to her prey drive no small animals or cats for this sweet girl. Meet Heidi! **GSD BREED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** Breed: German Shepherd Dog Estimated DOB: 12/1/2020 Sex: Female - Spayed Weight: 68 lbs Things to know about Heidi:- Originally rescued from Mississippi after being bounced around from home to home and before her owner could put her up for free online - Due to her reactivity to new people, Heidi requires a confident and experienced adopter who understands her need for gradual introductions.- Her protective nature, typical of German Shepherds, means she's often wary of strangers, especially in her own space.- Significant progress has been made with her people reactivity, but ongoing work with a professional trainer or behaviorist is essential- The Vet Behaviorist at Metropolitan Vet advises that Heidi's ideal home would be in a suburban or rural setting without young children, where her behaviors can be consistently managed.- Heidi shines in a household where she can have a dog companion, benefiting from the company and interaction with other canines- Once Heidi knows you, she is the absolute sweetest, most affectionate girl - Once comfortable, Heidi reveals her incredibly sweet, affectionate side. She's a lovable girl with a big heart.- She possesses a joyful, playful personality and loves to bond closely with her person- Heidi is intelligent, food motivated, and eager to please, making her highly trainable.- She already knows commands like sit, down, stay, heel, and more- Her medium energy level is perfectly balanced - playful and young at heart, yet also content to relax and snuggle.- Heidi enjoys outdoor activities, including walks, and is great at self-entertainment with toys and bones- She's a pro in the car, (hops right in!) ready for any adventure that comes her way- Fully housebroken- Heidi is also crate trained, settling into her crate easily and quietly- She's dog-friendly and currently lives harmoniously with multiple dogs of various ages and sizes- Loves to play with any and all dogs; She rolls on the ground, tumbles and chases - Heidi's playful nature extends to her interactions with cats, though she may try to engage them in play- Her adopter should be ready to embrace her quirks and commit to continuing her training and socialization Ready to embrace Heidi's wonderful spirit?
