Story
Rehoming German Shorthaired Pointer We’re looking to rehome our 1-year-old full German Shorthaired Pointer. He’s a great dog — very sweet and well-behaved, just has a lot of energy and needs more space than we can give him in our apartment. He’s timid and a little on edge around new people and other dogs, but once he’s comfortable in his environment, he loves to run, play, and explore. He’d do best with an active family and a yard or open space to run. The only reason we’re rehoming him is because he doesn’t have the space he needs.

Story
Meet Elliot, an adventurous and playful pup looking for an active home where he can learn, play, and grow! Personality and TemperamentElliot is bold, curious, and full of personality. He’s always alert to what’s happening around him—especially if there’s a squirrel or bird nearby. He enjoys being near his people and is learning to relax more during downtime. Elliot loves praise, is very food-motivated, and responds well to consistent training. Elliot is crate-trained and settles well when left alone Exercise and Activity RequirementsElliot is an energetic, athletic dog who thrives on daily activity. He enjoys a 2-mile walk each morning, plenty of yard play, and short bursts of high-energy fun like wrestling and chasing the flirt pole. He also loves using his nose for scent games and tracking. Elliot does best with both physical and mental enrichment and would make a great companion for an active person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures. Other Dogs and AnimalsElliot has been making good progress with his social skills around other dogs. He’s generally neutral after the initial excitement and settles quickly once given space. In tighter situations, he may give a small warning to communicate his boundaries. Elliot could live with a well-matched, respectful dog, but due to his high prey drive, a home without small animals would be best. Training Elliot has been working on his basic cues like sit and down and even picked up a few tricks such as spin. He recently tried bikejoring and did great—showing how much he enjoys having a job and staying active. The Ideal Home for ElliotElliot would do best with an active adopter who enjoys keeping their dog physically and mentally engaged. He’d be a great fit for someone experienced with energetic breeds and committed to positive training. He’ll benefit from an adopter who can help him continue building confidence around other dogs. A home without small animals is best. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Elliot's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Belle – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Fresh Start Meet Belle, a 6-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer whose quiet grace and gentle spirit have endured far more than any dog should. Belle came into rescue after a tough beginning—she was found in a cruelty case along with another adult dog and three puppies, severely underweight and surviving on wild grapes. Now safely in foster care, Belle is beginning to rediscover what it means to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. Belle is a calm, undemanding dog who asks for very little and gives back with quiet trust. She sleeps soundly through the night and has no separation anxiety—she’s content to rest peacefully when her people are away. She’s fully crate trained and finds comfort there, often choosing her crate as her safe spot. Though she’s still working on housetraining, Belle is a smart and sensitive girl who’s learning at her own pace. She walks nicely on leash and isn’t a strong puller. Right now, she gets about a half-mile walk a day, and her foster family is helping her build strength and stamina as she continues to gain weight and confidence. Belle’s past has made her cautious around people—she tends to hang back and observe before approaching, and she feels most comfortable with calm, gentle handling. With time and patience, she’s showing signs of coming out of her shell, one small victory at a time. She seems to prefer the company of male dogs and would likely do best in a home with a kind, steady canine companion. She’s not a dog who craves constant activity or attention—Belle’s favorite things are simple: a quiet corner, a soft bed, and the reassuring presence of people she’s learning to trust. She rarely barks, doesn’t dig or chew, and has shown no destructive behaviors. Belle rides in the car fairly well and has been easygoing about her daily routine. She’s a bit shy around new sights and sounds, so a calm home environment will help her continue to blossom. She’s not suitable for a home with cats, as her prey drive is too strong. In many ways, Belle is still learning how to be a dog again. Her foster family describes her as “very quiet”—a sweet, timid girl who’s slowly realizing that love and kindness are now hers to keep. Watching her gain confidence has been deeply rewarding, and her next family will have the joy of helping her continue that journey. Belle will do best in: A calm, patient home that can give her time and space to adjust A home with another friendly dog (preferably male) to help guide her A predictable routine and gentle encouragement A cat-free home Belle has come a long way already, and her progress continues every day. Once frightened and fragile, she’s learning to lift her head, explore her surroundings, and accept affection. She may never be the life of the party, but she’ll quietly fill your home with gratitude, peace, and gentle companionship. If you’re looking for a kind-hearted dog who will remind you daily of the power of patience and second chances, Belle might be your girl. Story
Wilbur – 6 Months Old, Full of Energy and HeartMeet Wilbur, a six-month-old GSP pup who’s equal parts adorable, friendly, and full of life. This lovable goofball is all puppy — playful, cuddly, and always ready for fun. He’s been settling in beautifully with his foster family and is now ready to find an active home that can keep up with his enthusiasm and help him grow into the great dog he’s meant to be. Wilbur is housetrained and learning his basic manners. He knows “sit,” “come,” and “with me,” and his leash skills are improving with practice. Like most young pups, he’s still working on curbing his jumping when greeting people — he just can’t help being excited to see you! Crate time is a challenge for Wilbur right now. He finds it stressful to be left alone and can cry or try to escape if confined. He’ll need a patient adopter who can help him learn that being alone is okay, using short, positive sessions and gradual confidence-building. Because of this, a work-from-home household or one where he’ll have company most of the time would be ideal. Wilbur is a high-energy guy who loves his walks, hikes, and playtime with other dogs. He enjoys squeaky toys and anything he can chew on (wood is a favorite!). He’s happiest when he has something to do — a dog friend to play with, a yard to explore, or a human to tag along with on adventures. He’ll definitely need plenty of daily exercise and structure to stay happy and out of mischief. He gets along well with people of all ages, including kids, and loves meeting new friends. He plays well with other dogs and would benefit from having a canine buddy. With cats, he’s curious but not aggressive — he’ll sometimes chase out of instinct but means no harm. Wilbur’s personality shines through in everything he does — he’s affectionate, fun-loving, and eager to please. He’s the kind of dog who brings energy and joy wherever he goes. With guidance, consistency, and plenty of love, he’s going to make an incredible lifelong companion. Wilbur will do best in: An active home with lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation A family or individual who’s home most of the time (work from home is great) A home with another playful dog to help him learn and burn energy Someone patient and committed to continuing his training Wilbur is still growing and learning, with all the makings of a wonderful, devoted companion. If you’re looking for a bright, bouncy pup to join your adventures—and you’re ready for the energy that comes with it—Wilbur might just be your guy.
