Story
Blackjack: ~2 Years old male German Shorthaired Pointer/German Shepherd Mix 75 pounds Neutered Background: This young dog was found roaming the streets of Fairfield in early 2024. The finder notified the local animal control and made "found dog" postings but no one came to claim him. The finder decided to hold onto him during his stray hold period and contacted us for help finding him a new home. We shifted Blackjack to a Lab Rescue foster home in mid-2024. What Blackjack's Foster Says: Blackjack is a handsome ~2-year-old Lab-looking German Shepherd/German Shorthaired Pointer mix who’s 75 pounds of energy, affection, and fun. He may not be a Labrador Retriever, but Blackjack is one-of-a-kind! This resilient, affectionate, and fun-loving boy has all the makings of a devoted family member and is ready to be your next adventure buddy. With a little time and patience, Blackjack will reward you with endless love and companionship. Outdoor Adventurer: Blackjack loves to run, play, and explore. Whether it’s chasing squirrels, splashing in the kiddie pool, fetching rocks, or enjoying the fresh air, he’s happiest with plenty of room to stretch his legs. Big Personality: Equal parts goofy and sweet, Blackjack will keep you laughing with his antics and melt your heart with his loyalty. Morning belly rubs are his favorite way to start the day! Adventurer in Training: He is eager to go on walks, though he’s still refining his leash manners. With slow introductions, Blackjack enjoys meeting new people and dogs. Trips to Home Depot are a favorite—he loves exploring new sights and smells! Smart and Eager to Learn: This bright boy responds well to structure and consistency. He’s ready to shine with a committed owner who will guide him. What Blackjack's Rescue Rep Says: Blackjack is searching for an experienced dog owner who can offer him a loving home with the structure, patience, and training he needs to thrive. He’d do well in a suburban or rural setting with plenty of space to run, where he can fully enjoy outdoor adventures and live his best life. He’d also thrive with another dog or kids to play with, but he’s not a fit for first-time dog owners, a home with cats, or urban living. Despite his rough start, Blackjack has blossomed into a loving, loyal dog with so much to offer. He’s smart, eager to learn, and ready to be the heart of your home. If you’re ready to welcome an affectionate, energetic, and loyal companion into your life, Blackjack is waiting to meet you. If you think this amazing dog might be the one for you, reach out to learn more about him and arrange a meeting. Blackjack can’t wait to find his forever family! Medical: In great health. Current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. Located In: Placerville (totally worth the drive) If you want to adopt Blackjack, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net.

King King is the best of both worlds — loving and gentle, yet alert and curious. He enjoys a good run just as much as curling up for snuggles afterward. Naturally watchful and observant, King likes to keep an eye on what’s going on around him while staying close to his people. King is potty trained, though he’s had a few minor accidents as he continues to learn. He knows how to use a doggie door and is working on basic commands like sit and stay. King is around cattle and chickens daily and has had some exposure to a cat, helping him build confidence and good manners around other animals. ##2656096##

Story
Bandit Bandit is a soft-hearted pup with a gentle soul. He loves to snuggle and would happily choose cozy indoor time over running laps any day. He’s very sensitive and will let you know if he gets a tiny “ouchie,” which only adds to his charm. Bandit is incredibly sweet, tender, and affectionate — the kind of dog who melts into you and makes you feel needed. Bandit is doing great with house manners. He is potty trained, knows how to use a doggie door, and has started learning basic commands like sit and stay. He is around cattle and chickens on a daily basis and has had some exposure to a cat, giving him valuable experience with other animals. ##2656094##

Story
Meet GeraldGerald is a 9-year-old, 65-pound German Shorthaired Pointer with a goofy streak and a big love for people. He’s the kind of dog who makes you smile—especially when he’s trotting around with a stuffed animal or eagerly dropping a ball at your feet for one more throw. Gerald has settled into his foster home well. The first few days were a bit overwhelming for him and he was understandably cautious, but he’s quickly found his footing and is showing his easygoing, affectionate personality. He loves attention, especially chin rubs, and is happiest when he’s included in whatever you’re doing. Despite being a senior, Gerald still enjoys staying active. He gets a daily walk and loves playing chase and fetch—seriously, fetch is a favorite. He brings the ball back, lets you take it, and is ready to go again until your arm gives out. He could benefit from a bit more structured exercise, which will help keep both his body and mind happy. In the house, Gerald is doing well with his manners. He’s house-training nicely and he lets his people know when he needs to go outside. He stays inside the home when left alone and is currently comfortable being on his own for up to four hours. He’s still adjusting to spending time alone, and continues to improve. Gerald knows how to sit and is learning “stay.” On leash, he’s a tall, strong boy and is working on reducing pulling—he’s already making progress. One thing to know about Gerald is that he is very food motivated and can be a bit obsessed with food. In his foster home, he has shown some treat guarding around the resident female dog, which may be related to past hunger or uncertainty. Because of this, he would do best as a solo dog or with a well-matched canine companion and an experienced owner who can manage feeding and treat time thoughtfully. Gerald loves people of all ages and has done well with children ranging from 9 and 11 years old to teenagers. He’s friendly meeting other dogs and likes to say hello. He is not a fit for a home with cats. Gerald would thrive in a home that appreciates a slightly goofy, affectionate GSP who still enjoys playtime but also knows how to relax and enjoy the comforts of home and humans. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who loves fetch, people, and being part of the family, Gerald may be your guy. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Gerald's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Merlin. He’s a bold and big-hearted senior who’s ready to barrel into your life with all the enthusiasm of a dog half his age. Personality and Temperament: Merlin has presence. He’s not a wallflower—he’s a personality. Despite having zero formal training when he came into rescue, he picked up house routines quickly and figured out a tricky set of hardwood stairs entirely on his own. He’s smart, he’s social, and once he decides you’re his person, you’ll feel it. Daily Life & Good Stuff: Merlin is still very much an active dog. He tears around the yard on enthusiastic sniff patrol, loves a good car ride, and is always up for more adventure. He’s food-motivated and a quick study when it comes to new routines. Give him a yak chew and a yard to explore, and he is one happy dog. He sleeps and eats in his crate comfortably and has adapted well to home life. Other Dogs and Animals: Merlin has been a great housemate to his foster siblings and gets excited when it’s time to head outside together. He approaches other dogs calmly and has been easy to integrate into a multi-dog home. Training & Skills: Merlin came to rescue with no prior training and didn’t even know his name, but don’t let that discourage you because he learns fast. He does best with structure and supervision indoors to help with housetraining, and since he’s deaf, visual cues and a tap for attention are his love language. The Ideal Home for Merlin: Merlin would thrive with a somewhat active family who will laugh at his goofy personality, has a well-fenced yard, and can give him the companionship and movement he still very much craves. Older? Sure. Slowing down? Absolutely not. Merlin is a strong, goofy, loving dog who has so much left to give—he just needs the right family to give it to. If you’re looking for a dog with gusto, personality, and a heart as big as his enthusiasm for life, Merlin is your guy. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Merlin’s been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Found abandoned at a gas station, this lucky girl was scooped up by Good Samaritans who made sure she got the second chance she deserved. And from the moment she landed in her foster home, Pop Rocks has been living up to her sparkling name — bursting with energy, curiosity, and love.   Daily Routine & Puppy Life   Pop Rocks starts her day bright and early around 7:00 AM, greeting her people with pure excitement and wiggly happiness. She sleeps in a crate in the home office with the door open. Like many puppies, she may whine briefly at bedtime, but she settles quickly and sleeps soundly through the night until morning.   Her days are filled with short bursts of enthusiastic play followed by equally enthusiastic naps. She spends much of her time engaging with the resident dogs, following her humans from room to room, and exploring the world around her. When those sleepy puppy eyes appear, her foster family knows it’s time for a nap — she may protest for a moment, then drifts right off until she’s recharged and ready to go again.   True to her puppy nature, Pop Rocks really has just two speeds: GO and sleep.   Personality: Joyful, Confident, and Full of Spark   Pop Rocks is the definition of exuberant. Her foster family has cared for many dogs, and they describe her as one of the most confident and joyful puppies they’ve ever met. Everything is an adventure, and she approaches new experiences with a cheerful “Hey, this might be fun!” attitude.   She is affectionate and loves to be held and snuggled, but she’s also independent enough to explore and play. She’s a classic Velcro pup who enjoys being near her people and staying involved in whatever is happening around her. Despite her rough start in life, she shows no fear or hesitation — just curiosity, intelligence, and a deep capacity for love.   Social Skills: A Natural with Other Dogs   Pop Rocks has excellent dog manners, especially for such a young puppy. She lives with two medium-sized Australian Cattle Dogs who can be intimidating to newcomers, yet she handled introductions beautifully from day one. She approaches playfully but respectfully, and if another dog signals they need space, she backs off immediately.   Within just a couple of days, she had fully integrated into the pack — even winning over the household’s famously cranky senior dog. She also enjoyed a sleepover at another foster home, where she played happily with their dogs and slept through the night like a pro.   She would likely thrive in a home with another friendly dog to play with and learn from.   Energy & Activity Level   Pop Rocks is a lively, playful puppy who loves to move, explore, and interact with her environment. She enjoys running with the bigger dogs, initiating games, and staying busy. After playtime, she crashes hard for well-earned naps.   She’s the perfect companion for an active household that enjoys walks, playtime, and engaging activities that keep a smart puppy’s mind and body stimulated.   What Makes Pop Rocks Special   Pop Rocks truly is the full package — smart, affectionate, playful, and incredibly adaptable. She has already captured the hearts of her foster family, including their daughter, who finds it hard to imagine saying goodbye.   And then there are her looks: one piercing blue eye and one soulful brown eye, paired with her expressive face and athletic build, make her absolutely unforgettable.   But what really sets her apart is her spirit. Despite being abandoned at such a young age, she greets the world with trust, enthusiasm, and pure love.   Her Perfect Match   Pop Rocks would thrive with a family or couple who understands puppyhood — especially the fun, busy, sometimes mischievous stage that comes with raising a smart, energetic young dog. An active home that enjoys playtime, training, and adventure will help her grow into the incredible companion she’s destined to be.   A friendly canine buddy and a yard to romp in would be wonderful bonuses for this social, playful girl.   Most of all, she’s looking for a home that will cherish her, guide her, and share in all the joy she brings — because this little firecracker has a lifetime of love to give.   Pop Rocks didn’t let a difficult beginning dim her sparkle — and now she’s ready to light up her forever home.April 2, 2026, 9:12 pm
