Story
Meet Elliot, an adventurous and playful pup looking for an active home where he can learn, play, and grow! Personality and TemperamentElliot is bold, curious, and full of personality. He’s always alert to what’s happening around him—especially if there’s a squirrel or bird nearby. He enjoys being near his people and is learning to relax more during downtime. Elliot loves praise, is very food-motivated, and responds well to consistent training. Elliot is crate-trained and settles well when left alone Exercise and Activity RequirementsElliot is an energetic, athletic dog who thrives on daily activity. He enjoys a 2-mile walk each morning, plenty of yard play, and short bursts of high-energy fun like wrestling and chasing the flirt pole. He also loves using his nose for scent games and tracking. Elliot does best with both physical and mental enrichment and would make a great companion for an active person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures. Other Dogs and AnimalsElliot has been making good progress with his social skills around other dogs. He’s generally neutral after the initial excitement and settles quickly once given space. In tighter situations, he may give a small warning to communicate his boundaries. Elliot could live with a well-matched, respectful dog, but due to his high prey drive, a home without small animals would be best. Training Elliot has been working on his basic cues like sit and down and even picked up a few tricks such as spin. He recently tried bikejoring and did great—showing how much he enjoys having a job and staying active. The Ideal Home for ElliotElliot would do best with an active adopter who enjoys keeping their dog physically and mentally engaged. He’d be a great fit for someone experienced with energetic breeds and committed to positive training. He’ll benefit from an adopter who can help him continue building confidence around other dogs. A home without small animals is best. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Elliot's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Nova – your on-the-go bestie with a rocket-fuel zest for life! If you’ve been looking for a high-octane partner in crime, Nova is your girl. This happy, adorable, wickedly smart youngster is built for fun, movement, and big days outdoors. She’s spirited, willful in a charming way, and absolutely ready to learn whatever you want to teach her—she just needs someone who can channel all that fabulous energy. What Nova brings to the table: Adventure-ready: Rain? Mud? Long walks? Fast zoomies? She’s in. Brilliant: She learns fast—she figured out an “auto sit” before exiting her crate all on her own. Playful: Loves squeaky toys, running full tilt, and engaging with other dogs (she’s still learning when they need a break). Engaging personality: Nova does funny little jaw-snaps when she’s thinking things through, as if she has opinions about your training notes. Sweet + people-loving: She adores attention and enthusiastically greets new humans. What she’s working on: Nova is a classic “sport model” dog—without enough exercise and brain work, she can get a little neurotic and inventive with her energy outlets. She’ll thrive with a person who genuinely enjoys training and activity. House manners: Almost fully house-trained. She will hop on anything (yes, including a TV) and once tried to go through a screen door. She’s improving daily with structure. Leash skills: Currently a pogo stick with opinions. She’s strong, excited, and still learning to keep four feet on the ground while you clip her harness. Crate training: Getting to 100%—sleeps through the night and settles after about 10 minutes of initial protest. Chewing: She’s fast. Harnesses, leashes, bully sticks—you name it. Redirecting and management are key. Exercise Needs: Nova currently gets walks, yard time, dog play, and brain games—but she could easily handle MORE. She’s happiest when she’s moving, exploring, and being challenged. Dog Interactions: She plays hard and doesn’t always recognize when other dogs are over it. With polite dogs or structured introductions, she does great. She’ll need guidance to develop better doggy social skills. Who Nova Is Looking For: Someone active, patient, and ready to invest in training. A person who thinks a high-energy, super-smart dog sounds fun—not overwhelming. Someone who laughs more than they sigh, and who knows that a little chaos now can become a truly amazing companion with consistency and time. Nova is a spectacular dog in the making. She’s bright, athletic, affectionate, and full of life. With guidance and the right outlet for her energy, she’s going to be absolutely fabulous. If you’re ready for a fun, spirited, endlessly entertaining sidekick, Nova can’t wait to meet you   Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Nova's been up to, check out his/her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet GeraldGerald is a 9-year-old, 65-pound German Shorthaired Pointer with a goofy streak and a big love for people. He’s the kind of dog who makes you smile—especially when he’s trotting around with a stuffed animal or eagerly dropping a ball at your feet for one more throw. Gerald has settled into his foster home well. The first few days were a bit overwhelming for him and he was understandably cautious, but he’s quickly found his footing and is showing his easygoing, affectionate personality. He loves attention, especially chin rubs, and is happiest when he’s included in whatever you’re doing. Despite being a senior, Gerald still enjoys staying active. He gets a daily walk and loves playing chase and fetch—seriously, fetch is a favorite. He brings the ball back, lets you take it, and is ready to go again until your arm gives out. He could benefit from a bit more structured exercise, which will help keep both his body and mind happy. In the house, Gerald is doing well with his manners. He’s house-training nicely and he lets his people know when he needs to go outside. He stays inside the home when left alone and is currently comfortable being on his own for up to four hours. He’s still adjusting to spending time alone, and continues to improve. Gerald knows how to sit and is learning “stay.” On leash, he’s a tall, strong boy and is working on reducing pulling—he’s already making progress. One thing to know about Gerald is that he is very food motivated and can be a bit obsessed with food. In his foster home, he has shown some treat guarding around the resident female dog, which may be related to past hunger or uncertainty. Because of this, he would do best as a solo dog or with a well-matched canine companion and an experienced owner who can manage feeding and treat time thoughtfully. Gerald loves people of all ages and has done well with children ranging from 9 and 11 years old to teenagers. He’s friendly meeting other dogs and likes to say hello. He is not a fit for a home with cats. Gerald would thrive in a home that appreciates a slightly goofy, affectionate GSP who still enjoys playtime but also knows how to relax and enjoy the comforts of home and humans. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who loves fetch, people, and being part of the family, Gerald may be your guy. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Gerald's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.
