ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Auggie! Auggie is a 5 year old Great Pyrenees mix who weighs about 65 lbs.  He'd love to have a family and a yard where he can run and play, his favorite thing to do. He is not really interested in going anywhere, home is where this big boy's heart is. Auggie is a loving and playful dog who enjoys all kind of toys. He's had one-on-one training and classes, knows obedience cues, and follows them very well. He is also walking properly on leash, is potty trained, and knows 'sit', down' and 'shake'. Auggie will need an experienced owner and an adult-only family. He’s not used to being around cats and will chase them, so no cats for this boy. He's neutered, microchipped and current on his vaccines. His adoption fee is $300.00. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  July 28, 2025, 1:54 pm

Story
Laika is one of the sweetest, loving, snuggly dogs we have known and it is difficult to part with her. Shes athletic, strong and a natural guardian dog to all animals. Shes will be best friends with any animal on your property and gentle with small children. Ideally, you should have farm animals like sheep or goats. Her bread will get board if not and chew things like irrigation, dig and is stubborn about potty training and other commands. This is part of the Great Pyrenees bread to be left alone, independent thinkers. They are perfect as an outdoor dog with farm animals in a barn or where they have access to them most the day to protect against coyotes. They are sensitive and need your affection, positive feedback and love. This breed is not for inexperienced dog owners or city dwellers. If you have the right environment for Laika, she will be the best dog you can imagine.

AVAILABLE FOR FOSTERThis tiny puppy is seeking foster placement along with its littermates. If you are an active foster, please complete the appropriate trainings in Volunteer Impact and then fill out the Foster Interest Form to let us know you are interested in fostering this pet! If you are not an active foster for San Diego Humane Society, please apply at sdhumane.org/foster prior to filling out the foster form. How this pet arrived:Renaissance was brought in by a community member on December 18, 2025 Why this pet is the one for you:Yes! You are seeing this correctly, and it is almost impossible to resist such a face. Renaissance is tiny right now and looks exactly like a soft stuffed animal, but don't let that fool you into adopting on an impulse. While he is small today, he won't stay that way for long; he is destined to grow into a very large dog. With a Great Pyrenees for a mother, Renaissance is going to be a substantial companion who requires a home ready for his impressive size. Since he is still a young pup, Renaissance is working hard on his potty training and basic doggy manners. He is looking for a home that can provide plenty of time and lots of patience to help him navigate his growth through positive training. This is a long-term commitment to help him become the truly great dog he is meant to be. If you have the space and the dedication to watch this big boy grow, bring a leash and collar when you come to adopt Renaissance today!
