Meet Libby, the adorable Pyrenees mix! Libby came to the Shelter by no fault of her own (her previous guardians were unable to continue caring for her). Libby was primarily outdoors in her previous home. She had some small breed dog friends in the previous home and has enjoyed meeting dogs since her arrival at the Shelter. Her previous guardians report that Libby loves car rides and did well at the professional groomer for “spa days”. Her favorite activities in her previous home were running, playing with toys, as well as playing with children and other dogs. Libby has some of her basic cues down such as sit and down and would love to keep learning with her new family. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Moana is a 14mo 1/2 silver lab and 1/2 Great Pyrenees unaltered female up for adoption. I have met both parents and while she looks like other breeds she is indeed the above mix called a “Pyrador” Moana is an extremely loving girl with a ton of lab energy! She is crate and potty trained great with dogs and kids, but probably kids that are taller than her because she is at just the right height and keeps knocking down our younger kids hard. She needs to be able to get out and run to bring down that energy and with 4 kids a job and a house it’s just too much for our family.

The owners had several dogs who were not fixed and had an accidental litter. Athena is a very sweet dog who loves to play and will be a bigger dog as she grows. She’s going to be a loyal companion and has been around farm animals/dogs. She was great with kids and a very great temperament. Bear is a 5-year-old Great Pyrenees looking for a new home and family to protect. He grew up with 4 small children, one other dog, and a big, fenced-in yard that backed up to a large field full of coyotes and wild boars. He loved to run the perimeter and bark, scaring off all sorts of threats. However, due to my job, we recently moved into an apartment community with no yard. Despite our best efforts, our new living situation has proven to be unsuitable for Bear, and he is not living the life kind of life that he deserves. He needs a house with a yard, and he needs to be able to bark. He is very loving and gentle with his family, but very territorial and protective, and will bark aggressively at any strangers or animals approaching the house. We want him to have a good life, and are willing to drive any distance to deliver him to a good home. He would make an excellent farm dog, and was bred to be a livestock protector! Please consider letting Bear join your family.
