Story
Enzo is a 5 yr old Male Pyrenees. We are seeking an experienced dog handler who is confident and loving to care for our special boy. He is very large and does well with a confident yet loving handler. He does not like a lot of activity. He is very laid back. He does not like delivery drivers and will bark when someone is around that he does not know. He would do well on a farm or in a space large enough to accommodate him. One walk a day is usually enough for him. Serious inquiries only. It is difficult to let him go but we will feel better knowing his new owner will care for and love him.

Story
Adopt Athena! This beautiful puppy is a great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. She was a litter of 12 and we are able to help eight of them. 4 were given away by the owners. The owners had several dogs who were not fixed and had an accidental litter. Athena is a very sweet dog who loves to play and will be a bigger dog as she grows. She’s going to be a loyal companion and has been around farm animals/dogs. She was great with kids and a very great temperament. She is located in San Martin California and we would love for you to meet her. To apply please use our adoption application located on our website.September 2, 2025, 8:41 am

Story
02/22/26 12:16 MHMeet Willow, a cautious and curious girl with a gentle heart and lots of personality.Willow is initially shy and careful around people, often keeping her distance at first, but she warms up with patience. She enjoys sniffing hands and allows gentle pets, and she knows sit, responding well to treats and positive encouragement. She’s comfortable being leashed and walked, though she may prefer slower, sniff-filled walks and the security of a confident handler.Willow has shown dog reactivity, including lunging or barking at other dogs through fences or on walks. She’s sometimes uncertain around other dogs but can show curiosity and brief friendly interest if guided carefully. Because of this, she’ll do best in a home without other dogs or with slow, structured introductions.Willow would thrive with: A patient adopter experienced with shy or reactive dogsPositive reinforcement and gentle guidanceCalm, structured walks and safe enrichmentTime and space to build confidence at her own paceWillow is a sweet, treat-motivated girl who rewards patience with affection, sniffy exploration, and gentle companionship. With the right adopter, she can continue gaining confidence and blossom into a loyal, loving friend.

Story
Big Boy was found wandering without a collar alongside Hwy 101 in San Jose in Feb. 2025. He was neutered but had no chip, no one responded to the notices I posted. He was sweet, loving, affectionate, easy-going, well-behaved, we fostered him for 2 months in Oakland, CA, then took him to San Diego to be adopted by a relative. He ended up being confined daily to a small space alone. Eventually another small dog was adopted to ease his anxiety, but his basic needs were not being met. In Oakland the home was spacious with a backyard & he enjoyed to companionship of another medium-sized dog. While enduring regular confinement in San Diego, he developed problematic anxiety-driven behaviors, destroying household items frequently, leading to daily dosing with trazadone. Last week we re-rescued him, brought him back to Oakland to foster again, immediately all destructive behavior ceased. He is a wonderful dog and we're searching for an ideal home with a loving family where he will be happy.

Story
Meet Maya, the Great Pyrenees mix. Maya’s previous guardian reported that she was an indoor dog who enjoyed sleeping on the couch. Maya has lived with cats previously and did well. Any feline friends in the next home should be introduced slowly and thoughtfully. Maya has been a bit shy since her entry to the Shelter, which is common. She has lived with young children and has been reported to be social with strangers previously. We anticipate Maya will blossom after decompressing from the Shelter and transitioning to her adoptive home. Maya may do well in a home with another dog provided there is a meet and greet at the Shelter prior to adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
