Meet Fenris! He came to us from MCACC after being E-Listed for kennel stress, which we can attribute to Fen having typical husky breed energy. He’d had way too much of being in a kennel at the shelter and was really struggling in the environment. When our volunteer first met him, she commented on how playful and happy he was - such an energetic guy who just needs to learn the basics. Once we got Fenris into a foster home, he continued to show us his goofy and lovable personality. Fenris was beyond excited to make friends with the other dogs in the house. He came on a little strong at first but has been quickly learning cues from the other dogs. Fen knows how to use a doggy door to go to the bathroom, but isn’t very vocal about needing to go outside if the doggy door isn’t available which has led to some accidents. Fenris still has some Puppy-like tendencies like counter surfing, chewing on things that aren’t toys, and jumping on people. He responds well to correction and redirection, and we believe that with dedicated training and consistency, his basic manners will improve greatly. Some of Fen’s favorite ways exercise are a game of fetch or a long walk, but don’t let that take away from his love for a good belly rub or snuggle. Fenris is one of the happiest, friendliest guys who just absolutely loves humans! Fen would do great in an active home where he has opportunities to be his energetic self. Because he experiences some separation anxiety, and isn’t a fan of his crate, it would also be in Fenris’ best interest to have a family who isn’t gone for long hours during the day. Because of his puppy like behavior, and tendencies to be mouthy, children 7+ would be recommended. A playful younger doggie sibling would certainly make Fenris a very happy boy, but he could also do well as an only dog. He does play on the rougher side, so we would recommend larger dogs, and no cats. Jameson has been with us a year now and we are still struggling to find the right home for this sweet boy, who is so endearing and very adoptable! Jameson was saved from the e-list at MCACC where he was listed for being too scared. One of the first things we learned about Jameson after he arrived is that he actually survived distemper as a puppy. This is a VERY rare disease to survive, so this lucky boy has cheated death twice now! His teeth are a little worse than normal for his age (typical of distemper survivors) and he has some minor neurological traits that are remnants of the disease. For example, his tongue sticks out a little bit, and he can struggle with walking up stairs – though not for lack of trying! Jameson is a very lovable, goofy boy with so much personality. He is more high-energy and loves to play with other dogs and to chase lizards in his yard. He does well with the other large dogs and he likes running up and down the fence with his neighbors’ smaller dog – he may be ok in a home with small dogs, but we haven’t tested a play date yet. He loves walks and walks very well with minimal pulling. He has not shown any desire to escape his fenced-in yard and his foster says he even has great recall, which is more rare for a husky. He does fine in a crate but will whine as he does not like to be confined to that small space. With a yard he is very independent and can keep himself busy. Jameson has some minor resource-guarding issues with treats that have improved leaps and bounds since he came to us. He had just one resource-guarding bite, and after this we sent him to a board and train program. He has not had a single incident since then, and with warning from his foster will allow her to take things from him with no issues now! Jameson loves food and treats, so positive reinforcement works great for him. His trainer left us with some very helpful notes on him at the conclusion of his training: Jameson is a super sweet and funny boy that tries to do things right. His future owner just needs to be patient because the neurological damage is definitely a bit of a handicap at times. I know Jameson knows the commands but I do give him time to put his body in the right, most comfortable position. So, he might not fall down the instant I ask him to lay down or sit but he is obeying and I can tell he tries. He gets distracted easily but all it takes it a little reminder, a second command, and he is back in business. Jameson has never tried to be a brat or very sassy. Jameson is very affectionate and loves to cuddle up on you once he gets to know you. He has done well around teenagers in his foster home and new strangers. He’s also talkative and loves to sings the husky song, especially around people and cars. He needs someone who is active but also patient. He’s a very good boy but just needs someone who is willing to understand and work with him. A home with one or more other active dogs would be ideal an outlet for his energy. Meet Corvinus! A sweet boy who’s had a rough go and is finally on the road to comfort and love. He was e-listed after struggling to be leashed in the shelter—he was scared and resistant, likely due to untreated pain in his eyes. Once he was out in the yard, he was friendly and couldn’t get enough pets. After arriving in rescue, we had him scheduled for entropion surgery for his eyes (his eyelids were turned inward causing him discomfort). During surgery, the vet discovered a micro-rupture in his other eye that was causing a very slow leak of fluid. She said that this had been ongoing for quite some time and as a result, wasn’t repairable. Because of this, his eye needed to be removed to relieve his pain. Since then, he’s been recovering beautifully and is already acting more like the happy, comfortable dog he was meant to be. Corvinus took his time warming up in his foster home, but once trust was established, his big-hearted, loving personality started to shine. He’s calm, well-behaved, and responds well to verbal correction/re-direction. He loves snuggling with blankets, playing with toys, and (his favorite) stealing socks. He enjoys playing with other animals and has interacted well with small dogs outside the home. He’s learning to walk nicely on leash and does well in his crate. Mealtime, belly rubs, cuddles, and treats are some of his favorite things in the world — and he’s not shy about letting you know when he’s ready for more affection. Corvinus is looking for a home with patient, loving people. He’d do well in a variety of home environments — whether calm or active — as long as he has the companionship of kind humans and, ideally, a friendly dog buddy. He gets along with mellow or playful dogs alike and would enjoy a companion to keep him busy. He’s made huge strides and is showing every sign of being a loyal, affectionate, and grateful companion. He has not been around cats yet but may be ok; we can do a test if you are interested. We anticipate he would do well with children as well. He doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body!
