Story
Meet Biscuit! Biscuit and his siblings didn’t get the easy start every pup deserves, but you’d never know it from their sweet, happy spirits today. They were found by kind-hearted Good Samaritans in a suburb of Houston known, heartbreakingly, for its cruelty toward animals. The puppies were alone, without their mother, and we may never know what happened, whether she was separated from them or worse. What we do know is that these babies had to grow up far too fast, facing the world without the comfort and care every puppy should have. Thankfully, their story didn’t end there. With the help of their rescuers and dedicated fosters, these little ones are now safe, loved, and absolutely thriving. They are learning what it means to be cared for and to have full bellies, soft beds, gentle hands, and kind voices. And they are soaking it all up. Each of these pups is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and playful. They love to explore, snuggle, and bounce around like happy little puppies should. Their personalities are just starting to shine, and it’s been amazing to watch them blossom more each day. We don’t know their exact breed since mom and dad are a mystery, but we expect they’ll grow to be medium-sized dogs. As of March 22, they are approximately 8 weeks old which is just the perfect age to start their next chapter with a forever family. Again, we are very limited on their history so their ages, breed and expected size are estimates. Because of their rough start, they will need adopters who are patient, loving, and committed to continuing their journey and who will teach them, guide them, and show them that the world is a safe and wonderful place. Adopters also need to be committed to further socialization and training for these puppies. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and want to be part of a beautiful rescue story, one of these puppies could be your perfect match. They’ve already survived the hardest part—now they just need someone to love them forever. Biscuit is currently living in his foster home in Houston, Texas but is available for transport to many locations across the country. His adoption fee of $600 includes the transport fees. Story
Hi my name is Mr. Pibb! I am a shy dog by nature, so meeting new people can put me in a bit of a ruff spot. But I recently was lucky enough to go to a foster home, and my new foster parent says I have been adjusting well and that I am gentle, well-mannered in the home, and so sweet! I even seem to know some commands! I am working on getting more confident and comfortable. Can you be my safe person? Reach out to the adoptions team to arrange a meeting with me!Mr. Pibb is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! Story
Hi my name is Nikita! I am a good girl and I am looking for an active owner willing to offer training and exercise, but in return I can offer unconditional love and years of happiness. I do have some big feelings about some things in this world and tend to express this by reacting with barking and may be a bit too much for some families. I will need to continue my training and HSHV offers classes for dogs like me! Visit www.hshv.org for more information.Nikita has heartworm which means that this dog has parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Nikita will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. There is additional information on heartworm disease and treatment available at our Adoption Desk. The heartworm injections for treatment are covered by HSHV, but there may be additional costs associated with clinical care.

Story
Hey my name is Abigale! I am a friendly dog looking for someone to help me build my confidence a bit, but once I am comfortable, I am an affectionate girl! Training, routines, and a calm introductions to new people would help me blossom into the best dog I can be. I can be rather shy so I would prefer a quieter home without younger children. I can be selective when it comes to new animal friends, and would likely prefer to be your only pet. I hope I might be the dog for you, so please reach out to meet me soon!Abigale is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative).
