Winnie has already mastered one of the best small-dog skills there is: knowing how to become part of a home without turning it upside down. At just 17 pounds, she is loving, snuggly, playful when the toys come out and wonderfully easy to live with. Her foster family has nothing but good things to say about her, and considering she joined a home with other dogs and simply settled right into the rhythm of family life, that praise carries some weight. She is both house and crate trained, walks easily into her crate and has proven herself to be an all-around respectful little house mate. Her energy is nicely balanced toward the lower end. She enjoys toys and has a playful side, but she is equally content milling around the house, checking in for affection and settling nearby while everyone goes about their day. She does not need a packed social calendar or miles of exercise to feel fulfilled. A cozy home, daily walks, some playtime and plenty of opportunities to snuggle are much more Winnie's speed. People are very much her comfort zone. Winnie is affectionate and confident meeting new friends, has been loving with men and has also met children and been sweet with them. She enjoys attention without demanding that every waking moment revolve around her. When life gets a little overwhelming, she tends to become quiet and still rather than frantic, and she looks to her people for reassurance. Because of that softer side, we think Winnie will shine brightest in a home that isn't constantly bustling with visitors, noise and activity. She can absolutely share her home with other dogs, too. Winnie currently lives with dogs in her foster home and gets along beautifully with them. When meeting unfamiliar dogs, she sometimes appreciates a moment to read the room before jumping into friendship. Once comfortable, she loosens right up and has even shown us a cute bouncy, chase-style playfulness. She has good social communication, shares toys and human affection nicely, and respectfully leaves other dogs alone when treats are being handed out. She seems particularly drawn to smaller dogs and actively sought one out for play, although she has successfully spent time with dogs both big and small. Winnie is sweet, but she isn't a pushover. If another dog becomes overly persistent, she is capable of politely making her boundaries known. We appreciate that about her. Give her respectful canine company and she has shown that she can settle in, coexist and enjoy having friends without needing to be the center of their universe. Cats are a more thoughtful match. Winnie was cautious and respectful meeting our house cat but her discomfort made it difficult to truly speak to her living with cats so we would currently recommend a calm, dog-savvy cat and a family prepared to manage introductions carefully rather than assuming instant friendship. There is something especially appealing about a dog whose foster family can simply say, she's a great fit! Winnie has already shown that she can live peacefully with other dogs, respect a home, enjoy her toys, curl up for affection and bring a lovely little spark of playfulness when the mood strikes. As a Rescue do not euthanize dogs but dogs that are listed as URGENT are still waiting to be saved from animal control and they do euthanise. Meet Bubbles, an adult female small terrier/chi mix who is about 6 yrs old and weighs 13 lbs. Bubbles arrived in CT on 8/22 and is settling in well with her foster. We are accepting applications for her now! Her foster said, "Bubbles is a very sweet girl! She is such a loving little girl, and I'm definitely going to enjoy all the cuddles while she is here!"
