Story
Let me tell you, when I turned thirteen years old this year, I never thought I'd be surrendered to a shelter. I'd lived in my home since I was only eight weeks old, so I thought it would be forever, but I guess I was wrong. My name is Buddy, but I answer to "Dummy" too. Yes, that's what they called me sometimes. Being the species that I am, I didn't understand how insulting that was. Once the humans explained it to me, I was really offended. I'm not a dummy - I happen to be quite intelligent.I suppose part of my current situation could be because of some of the things I did. You see, I spent time in a crate, and when I was left outside I was boring, and being the social butterfly that I am, I thought it would be OK if I went to find someone who would play with me. Apparently Mom and Dad did not agree with my decisions, and I always got in trouble for leaving. It was really easy to get out of my yard. I would dig under the fence, or jump on top of that box out there, then jump right over that darned old fence. Easy peasy. Not much could hold me in my yard if I was determined to get out! It might have been because I wasn't neutered either...To make it even better, every time I got out, I got to ride in a car! I just LOVE to ride in cars! Someone would pick me up and take me to their home, or to the shelter, or even to the police station! They're so nice there. The problem was, every time I got to go for a ride, Mom and Dad had to pay money to get me back. I think after a while I got too expensive, so maybe that's why I had to come here.Anyway, this is my situation now and I'm going to make the best of it. I'm thirteen years old, but I'm still quite chipper for my age! I love to go for walks, I'm great on a leash, and I will occasionally chase a ball. I enjoy a squeaky toy once in a while, and I'd love to gnaw on a yummy chew-toy!I'd like a home where there will be someone who will pay attention to me, and not leave me alone too often. I do like to take naps during the day (who doesn't, right?) but I'd like someone to be there when I wake up. I could sleep in your bed if that's allowed, but I also like to hang out in my open-door crate. Here at the shelter I enjoy hanging out with the girls in the office, and I've learned not to bark when people come in the door. See how smart I am?It would be OK for me to have a four-legged brother or sister in my new home. I get along with the dogs here at the shelter, but I haven't met any of the cats yet, so I'm not sure about them. If you don't have a dog now, that's OK too - that will just mean I'll get all of your attention!I hope some nice family decides I'm just what they're looking for, and sends in an application to adopt me. I hope they don't think I'm too old. I don't think I am. If you're that family - the one that's going to give me a forever home this time - send in an application! Once it's approved, we'll make plans to meet each other. I'm very excited to meet my new family, so if you're ready, I'm ready too!

Story
Affectionately called "Tiny Terra" by her foster pawrents, this gorgeous little pup is an adorable mixture of sassy and sweet. Terra is a 4 month old mixed breed that we guess is part Lab and part JRT but honestly, we don't know. She was pulled from a local shelter after being put on the euthanasia list! We saved her, got her healthy and this little pup is ready for her furever! And yes, her ears do naturally stand like that. We're in love with them too. Terra is a higher energy puppy and we would like her to go to an active family. We're not kidding when we say she's not often tired. She will play with every dog, cat, human... or anything else she meets so her forever people need to be ready to implement boundaries and maintain her training. Terra is not afraid of anything so her people need to be ready. This girl handles car rides like a pro and was immediately sniffing out the window, she plays (or tries to play) with any dog she meets no matter the size or if they're not as interested in playing, and she is not afraid to tell you how she feels. This playful pup will be an amazing addition to the right family. She's incredibly smart, knows sit and working on place, house trained, crate trained, and working on leash walking (although sometimes she prefers to walk herself :D). She can get frustrated easily so an adopter with some dog experience or willing to seek a trainer would probably be the best fit for her. If you're interested in learning more about this gorgeous girl or would like to apply and have her join your family, please submit this form: dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form. We'll forward it to her foster mom who will reach out from there. ================================================ If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN PENNSYLVANIA AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama, Pennsylvania and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Story
Chip-JRT mix male, ~ 2 1/2yr. 40# (Sept. 2023) Email rescuebc@hotmail.com, for an application. Chip is a great dog, caught in a tight situation. He's in foster care, having been abandon at a high kill rural shelter. But the foster mom is having health issues and he is in danger of going back to the Shelter. Chip is young, energetic and a super friendly dog. He gets along well with other dogs, although probably needs a home without cats. He's not hurt any cats, but they are 'very interesting' to him. Chip is great around children -- thought might be a bit to energetic to be with children under 3 or 4. He's very athletic and would do well with an active family in which someone will be home most of the time to supervise and play with him when he's outdoors. He is also a big time snuggler who wants to be as close to you as he can be. He’s very sweet and sensitive, and he’s definitely at his best when he has someone he loves with him. Let him sit with you on the couch or bed and he’s in heaven. He’s good on a leash and is crate trained. Chip needs his time outside and loves to run and play with other dogs, toys and best of all - interactive play with humans. Chip is very smart, sweet, affectionate, well behaved, fun, and happy boy. He loves to be involved in anything that we are doing. His happy place is sitting right beside you. He loves outdoor activities and being able to run full speed. He’s just a great dog -- he's not a barker or whiner. Chip's adoption fee is $300 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption . For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Please include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Story
Lita is located in TEXAS. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so she is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. Lita and her siblings came from a backyard breeder who didn't want them. A neighbor rescued them to keep him from killing them. We know that Lita is a wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier mix. She is just over 1 year of age and she weighs 21 pounds. Lita also has an adorable head tilt. She is sweet, active, and playful. At first, Lita was terrified of the other dogs, but now she loves to run and play with all of the other dogs. Lita does like to chase cats. Lita is a JRT and she can jump a 4" fence or gate to go chase a squirrel or cat. We have found her sitting at the back gate waiting to be let back in the yard. We have also caught her getting out while we are working outside the yard. She knows she shouldn't be out there and immediately turns around and goes back to the gate. She doesn't run away from you and comes when called. Lita is crate-trained and will run and get in her crate when it is time to do so. She obviously received no training from the person who previously had her, but she learns quickly and has already stopped certain bad habits she had when she arrived. Lita needs more work with housetraining and house manners because she is still a puppy that will chew on things she is not supposed to. Lita must be in the house as a loved member of the family. She must be walked on a leash and must have a secure, 6-foot-tall fenced yard to run and play. Lita is healthy. She is spayed, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. She is negative for heartworms and receives monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Litas' out-of-state adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport to Hagerstown MD or Quicksburg VA. She is being fostered in Texas and cannot be transported until after she is adopted. Please send an email to 2manydogstx@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting this little sweet girl. Tommy is located in TEXAS. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. Tommy and his siblings came from a backyard breeder who didn't want them. A neighbor rescued them to keep them from being killed. We know that Tommy is mostly a Jack Russell Terrier. He is just over 1 year of age and weighs 20 pounds. Tommy was terrified of our other dogs at first but now he runs and plays with all of them. He is a JRT. Very active and playful. He loves to run and play chase with the other dogs. He gets really excited by squirrels and can jump really high (over 4 ft). He likes water and gets in the wading pool to cool off. Tommy is a very sweet boy. He likes to sit next to you on the couch to get pets and belly rubs. He loves treats. Tommy obviously received no training from the people he came from but he is smart and learns quickly. He is now crate-trained but still needs work on house training. He needs additional obedience training and also needs to learn house manners because he will chew on things that he is not supposed to. Tommy is a small dog, so he must be protected from rough treatment by children or big dogs that could hurt him. He must also be protected from outdoor predators. Tommy must be in the house as a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and must have a very secure, 6-foot-high fenced yard to run and play. Tommy is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. He is negative for heartworms and receives monthly heartworm and flea prevention.
