Story
Meet Maru: Maru is about a 10 year old (as of July 2026) Jack Russell Terrier mix (best guess) that weighs about 16 pounds. Maru was surrendered to a high kill shelter in Tennessee. One of our regular rescuers witnessed poor Maru being dropped off while they were picking up another dog. His owners said they didn’t have time for him anymore; they removed his harness and leash and took his blanket and toy out of his crate and took him inside in the empty crate. The little buddy was scared and confused, but luckily we were able to find an open spot and went to pick him up the next day. Maru is now being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Maru was shy at first but warmed up after a day. Maru has been good with other dogs, but seems to be overwhelmed by the multiple dogs in his foster home. We believe he would prefer a home with one other dog or he would also seem happy on his own. Maru is a big snuggler and loves nothing better than to lay in his person’s lap! Maru is good with people, but we think small children may scare him - he would love a calmer more laid back environment. Maru is crate trained, but loves his doggy bed to snuggle in. When Maru sees his harness he gets very excited to be able to go on a walk - he loves his walks and is great on the leash. Maru loves to be outside and we would love for him to have a home with a fenced in yard for him to sniff and sunbathe the day away. Maru is house trained. Maru is up to date on his shots and neutered. If you are interested in relaxing with this sweetheart, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Jessica (jesswalton.jw@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Thanks for checking out my profile! I am Eddie. I was saved from a rescue in Maryland by Castaway Critters. My brother Kellan and I were found outside after our owner died and someone left us out. I am a senior dog. I was not neutered until I came to Castaway Critters in 2025. I was so sick because I was not cared for the best in my life. BUT - after a lot of tests and medications, I am healthy and looking for my furever home to live out the rest of my life in. I do wear diapers until my hormones officially leave my body. I have a history of marking due to not being altered.  I absolutely love chicken. I love when my foster Mom brings me rotisserie chicken and lots of treats! I like to take short walks, do my business and come back inside to lounge on the couch. My perfect family is someone who is home a lot. I do well with other dogs, and would love to be adopted with my brother Kellan, but it isn't necessary. I have not been around cats or a lot of children, so I am unsure if my perfect family has cats or kids. I am just hoping someone can understand my past and give me a chance to be a part of a family.  I am neutered and up to date on vaccines. I am microchipped, as well as have had a dental - so I am missing a few teeth. If you are interested in adopting me, please apply at www.castawaycritters.org. If you have any more questions about me, please email info@castawaycritters.org.    Interested in meeting me?  Complete an on-line application! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Baby super mix of medium breeds***COURTESY LISTING*****   Caleb is a 7th month old Jack Russell mix.   He’s approximately 25 pounds.  He loves and needs to run and play with other dogs.  He needs a yard.  He is loved by all.  Super friendly.  He loves people, but is so excitable he probably needs to be in a home with kids old enough to handle his jumping.  He lives with two cats and they tolerate him.  He either ignores them or wrestles with them as if they are dogs.  He does well on the leash but when he wants to play he does bite and tug the leash.        He is up to date on all his vaccines and is very healthy.  He is up to date on all his vaccines, but is not neutered yet as I was told to wait until 9 months old.  He eats Purina pro-plan dog food and loves a Kong filled with pumpkin, cheese, or peanut butter.   He is crate trained.  He won’t go in the crate himself, but once guided in, given a small treat, and the sheet is placed over the crate he goes right to sleep.         Caleb is a sweet, fun pup.  I have to rehome him because he is too energetic for my husband, and he needs a place to run and play with at least one other dog.        We are located in Harrisburg, PA.  My phone # is (312) 898-3867  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 15, 2026, 7:41 pm

Story
Current Location: Ijamsville, MD Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Macaroni: The Sweet, Shy Soul Ready to Blossom If you have a quiet home and a heart full of patience, Macaroni might just be the missing piece of your family. A survivor of a challenging past, Macaroni is learning that the world isn’t quite as scary as she once thought. While she is still discovering the simple joys of life, she is proof that with time and kindness, even the shyest dogs can show their true colors. The "Real Talk" on Macaroni Macaroni needs an adopter who respects her pace and understands that her progress is measured in small, beautiful moments: Earning Trust: Macaroni is not a "lap dog" in the traditional sense. She is still very fearful of direct touch; however, when she feels safe she’ll tentatively seek out chin scratches or give you a gentle "boop" with her nose when you aren't looking. She needs a home that will give her the space to approach you on her terms. The "Ignore" Rule: She is cautious around new people. Her way of managing nerves is to bark from a distance or retreat if someone tries to engage too quickly. She does best when visitors simply ignore her, allowing her the dignity and safety of deciding when to say hello. Potential Flight Risk: Macaroni is still adjusting to the concept of boundaries. She currently dislikes the leash and has shown a knack for jumping fences when overwhelmed. Because of this, she needs a secure yard and an adopter who understands her flight risk until she is fully bonded and confident in her surroundings. (The good news? If she does wander, she’s so attached to her people that she naturally gravitates right back.) Why You’ll Want Her on Your Team Once the "shell" comes off, Macaroni is a delight. She is not just a project; she is a personality waiting to shine: The Wiggle-Butt Factor: When she’s happy, she does the cutest, most infectious wiggle-butt dance. If you talk to her, she’ll light up, showing you the silly, playful side that has been waiting to come out. Morning Zoomies: Nothing beats the sight of Macaroni enjoying her morning zoomies in the yard. She’s learning how to play, how to chase, and how to be a dog. A True Friend: She loves her canine best friend, Cheese. Watching her blossom alongside him has shown us that she has a massive capacity for love—she just needs the right environment to let it out. The Perfect Match Macaroni is looking for a home that can offer: A Canine Mentor: She must have a confident, balanced dog in the home. She relies on other dogs to show her the ropes and help her feel secure enough to be herself. A Low-Traffic Environment: Because of her fear of strangers, she would thrive in a home with adults or older teens who can respect her need for space. Patience and Security: An adopter who is committed to a "safety-first" approach regarding leashes and fences, and who understands that she needs time to settle in before she truly reveals her full, playful personality. Are you the patient, steady hand Macaroni has been waiting for? She has so much love to give to the right person. If you're ready to provide a sanctuary for this sweet, wiggly girl, please click the apply button today! We would love to see Macaroni and Cheese find their forever home together. If that isn't possible, she still requires a home with another confident dog to help her navigate her new world.
