Weight: 60 lbs Breed: Labrador Retriever/Husky (best guess Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Adoption Fee: $100.00 (plus tax) Foster Location: N Ky. Applicants must live within 2 hours of Florence, KY, no exceptions. Home Recommendation: Single Family. Fenced yard. He enjoys spending time in a fenced yard.  Not too long as he'll get bored and was an escape artist in his previous home (foster mom hasn't had this issue with him but he's not left outdoors for extended periods of time). Kids: He loves everyone, but he's going to barrel through your kids...and they're going to cry.  We don't want to be responsible for the tears. Crate Trained: Yes! All you need to do is throw a few pieces of kibble or a treat in his crate and he can't get in there fast enough. Cats: He's fine with cats and largely ignores them, but their food would have to be somewhere that he absolutely cannot access. Potty Trained: Yes! Dogs: He's great with other dogs...until it comes to food.  If there's a dropped treat or a crumb falls off of your plate while you're eating, he becomes obsessed.  For this reason, we feel he'd be best as the only dog. Leash Manners: You'll be hanging on for dear life.  No one told him he's a senior and he's as strong as an ox.  Probably best to stick to yard time, unless absolutely necessary to take him somewhere. He's a sweet senior who came to us when his owners decided his latest escape would be his last.  Pip ended up in the shelter a few too many times and they'd had enough of his escapades.  We're assuming he was left outdoors for long periods of time because he hasn't tried to escape once in his foster home.   Pip is a sweet, older (not so) gentleman who will do anything for food, and we mean anything.  He'll climb where you're sure there's no possible way he can climb, open cabinets, rip bags...you name it and he'll find a way.  Food needs to be stored away out of sight and locked securely away from his sensitive nose. He desperately needs a home to live out his senior years.  He's the nicest dog, will you give him a chance? His listing will be removed as soon as he has an approved application Please be honest! We have many people tell us what they think we want to read, not what's truthful. If there are discrepancies, your application will be denied. It's important for us to place dogs in a home that's suitable. You may be a stellar owner but possibly not a good fit for the dog you were first interested in adopting. We're not trying to offend anyone, we're trying to set everyone up for success. We're a best fit rescue and will verify your vet and personal references.      July 19, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
Denver is 2 years old and a sweet sweet boy. He attended Petsmart training school and can sit, shake, lay, stay and heel. Well trained, and extremely well behaved. My family will be living in an apartment for up to 6-9 months while building another home, thus the reason I would like to find Denver a nice family. We are heartbroken to make this decision. He loves other animals, people and especially kids. He is a great dog and will be extremely missed. Feel free to email me with questions katherinemcantrell@gmail.com

Story
Everyone, meet Bagel. Bagel is approximately 14 months old and is a lab mix weighing in at around 40lbs. She came to LTR from a shelter with her siblings. She was very scared and timid. In fact, she stayed in her crate the majority of them time for the first 2 weeks. She eventually learned to trust her new foster family and is enjoying her life. She LOVES her two 4 legged brothers and running around the yard with them but when play time is over she is quite the cuddler. She will actually put her front legs around you and her head on your shoulder! It’s the sweetest thing! It did take her time to get to this point so it will take time in her new home but she is well worth the wait. Bagel is potty trained, crate trained, spayed and UTD on shots. Her adoption fee is $250

Finn is an energetic guy who loves to go for walks. He is also super cuddly. He’s a people dog and loves to be with his humans. Finn was raised in a home with children and another dog, but has been struggling with both, so he is currently recommended to be an only-pet in a child free home. Finn is about 65lbs and is house and crate trained.     July 26, 2024, 11:17 am

Story
Skye is the best at making you feel like she is the saddest pup around when you see her in a kennel! Don't believe her! Even the hard start of life she has with her ear being ripped off and left for dead, she has bounced back to be a beautiful playful soul! She loves to play with the other pups, she can also keep herself busy with a Nyla bone. She is crate trained in the sense that she will stay quiet in her crate and play with her toys and she keeps her crate clean (I.e., no potty accidents); however, she does have to be nudged in. We are working on that. Skye is a high energy dog. She would do best if she had another playful doggo in the house, or a an active family to help burn off some of that energy. For this reason, we are also recommending a fenced in yard as she loves to run in the yard. Also, Skye seems a little too interested in the resident cat and so for that reason, I would recommend a home with no cats for this gal. Skye would also benefit from basic obedience training to help control her energy when in the house (to avoid running and jumping all over the furniture). Since she still likes to jump on people, I also recommend older kids for her to keep from getting knocked down. Skye truly is a sweetheart of a gal! She is so friendly and playful and just loves in the moment! Apply today to meet her in person! July 26, 2024, 11:17 am

Story
Cheers came back to SAAP after being adopted as a puppy in 2015. He loves butt scratches and is house trained. Cheers really struggles with big changes in his life, so he will need a patient adopter who will give him ample time to settle into a new life - likely several months of adjustment time. Cheers takes some time to slowly build a relationship with new people. He doesn’t dislike new people, but he also doesn’t make much effort to bond in the beginning. Once he does begin to feel safe, he likes to curl up on the couch and nap near you, and he happily accepts affection. When he is feeling overwhelmed or stressed, he will bark, but that reaction does diminish significantly with time.  Cheers seems genetically predisposed to lumps and bumps. He did have one cancerous mass that was completely removed upon his return to SAAP last fall. He has quite a few other lumps that the vet has determined to be fatty masses that are not of concern. Many of his siblings have had similar diagnoses and are all doing well despite the lumps. Cheers gets easily overwhelmed by other dogs and children, and wants to go after cats, so at this time we are recommending he be adopted as an only pet to a household without kids. If you would be interested in fostering or adopting Cheers, you can apply for either option on our website!July 26, 2024, 11:17 am
