Story
Taffy was found abandoned on a rural back road, painfully matted, with fur tangled over her eyes. She understandably does not want to be abandoned again, so she is looking for a home where people are around most of the time. Taffy walks reasonably well on the leash and enjoys time sniffing around the yard. She has been staying in a foster home with other small dogs and cats and gets along well with everyone. She rides well in a car if she is secure in a cat carrier, but riding loose makes her nervous. She needs help going up and down stairs but fortunately is easy to carry. She is a very sweet girl who loves treats and being with her humans. She also loves to push her big donut bed around trying to get it comfy. Taffy is blind and deaf. We are awaiting a determination of whether she will need to have her eyes removed, as they are quite painful for her. She is currently on eye drops, which does not make her happy. Taffy is also recovering from a fungal infection in her skin, but she is receiving treatment for that and is expected to recover. She has a grade 5 heart murmur which does not currently require any treatment but will require monitoring. Taffy came to us with separation anxiety, but she now feels secure enough in her foster home that it seems to have resiolved. She is a good communicator who rarely barks, except when shes done walking and pottying. She will occasionally bark if shes riding in car and needs to potty. She's also a great listener. Taffy is making good progress on her housetraining but will benefit from having potty pads available, at least initially. Taffy has had a hard life. She deserves all the good things. Story
Welcome Lilou! She is like a fluffy little cloud, floating around whatever room you happen to be in and landing gently on soft beds for naptime. Lilou is a little shy and will need patience and understanding as she adapts to her new home. As she gets to know people, she is more comfortable with gentle pets and attention. She gets along with dogs and cats and would likely benefit from having a more outgoing dog in her new home to show her the ropes. She does well on leash walks and is happy riding in the car. She can be trusted on her own at home to stay out of mischief. She sleeps well through the night and will go hang out in her crate without being asked (possibly hoping that going into the crate will cause extra meals to magically appear). She is working hard to improve her housetraining skills. Lilou arrived in desperate need of dental work and with an ulcerated mammary mass. The vet has addressed both of these issues for now. The mass did turn out to be malignant, but it's gone now, and there is no sign of metastasis. She has some limits in her vision and hearing but they don't limit her ability to get around and enjoy life. Her exercise needs are fairly low. She can walk up or down a few stairs but finds an entire staircase too intimidating. She enjoys wandering around in the yard and sniffing all the things. She's happy to lay down with a dental chew to keep herself amused. She would prefer a quiet home where she can relax and enjoy life. Lilou is approx 11 years old and 9 lbs. Fostered in Rockville, MD. Story
Eliza was very much loved by her human, and suddenly they were ripped apart by circumstances beyond both of their control. She's now looking to start over and find the love that she's missing. Having shared her life with humans, Eliza is an expert at being someone's beloved pet. She is essentially housetrained (although having some puppy pads around wouldn't hurt, just in case), good on the leash, rides well in the car, and generally sleeps quietly through the night. She doesn't need much in the way of exercise, and she isn't demanding about lap or cuddle time (in fact, she'd rather skip it). She gets on fine with older children. Eliza is prone to pancreatitis, so she will need to stay on special food for that. She prefers to be carried up and down stairs and may have some hearing limitations. She would prefer a home where someone is home most of the time and seems mostly comfortable around older women. She would love to have a fenced yard and another dog in the house. It takes Eliza a little time to warm up to new people. Once she settles, she's a happy little girl. Her favorite part of the day is meal and bedtime. Loves lounging and napping throughout the day. She loves to run back to bed after mealtime. She will get excited and play with squeaky babies. She wants to be near her humans at all times and will bark if she can't see them. He is playful, affectionate, and gets along well with the other three dogs in his foster home. He travels very well and likes going on walks with his foster siblings. He loves to sleep with his humans at night, and enjoys curling up next to them to watch TV or sit out on the porch. He also loves his toys and morning zoomies! Meet Ivony Ivony is a sweet and loving Maltese girl who is looking for a wonderful forever home. She was originally purchased for $1,600 and has been deeply loved and cared for. She is truly one of the sweetest, most affectionate little dogs you could meet. Ivony loves being around people and getting attention. She is gentle, playful, and very affectionate. She enjoys being brushed and lets you brush her hair, which makes grooming her a sweet bonding experience. She loves being pampered, cuddled, and included in the family. She is semi potty trained and has already made progress, although she may still have occasional accidents. She is young and continuing to learn, so she would do best with someone patient and consistent who can continue her potty-training routine. Ivony has had some difficulty getting along with our Pomeranian, Mylo. Because of their personalities and interactions, we believe Ivony may be happiest in a home where she can receive plenty of individual attention
