Story
Melbourne makes an entrance. This 14-lb, 4-year-old Maltese mix is jaunty, goofy, and packed with personality. He’s got bubble eyes, a confident little strut, and the kind of expressive face that suggests he’s always in on the joke. Melbourne likes people, gets along with other dogs and cats, and appreciates a quiet home where he can take a little time to warm up and settle in. Once he does, he’s loyal, charming, and endlessly entertaining. He enjoys using his voice from time to time, so apartments or close-quarters living aren’t the best fit. What is a great fit? Someone who loves a small dog with big expressions, playful confidence, and a cheeky spark. Melbourne is ready to steal hearts — possibly yours. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. Story
Meet Khloe! This little Maltese lady somehow looks like a literal baby doll. Khloe spent her ENTIRE life with one family, but as time passed, kids grew, and Khloe aged, they felt they could no longer care for her. So here she is, starting over in her golden years. It’s easy to see that her heart is a bit broken, but she's settled into her foster home beautifully. Khloe's foster mom describes her as the sweetest, gentlest, most demure and unassuming little princess. A true sleeping beauty, she happily curls up and naps the majority of each day. Initially a bit hesitant about venturing into the yard, she now enjoys sniffing around and exploring. She’s a picky eater but has made her preferences clear: Greenies, string cheese, and fish are excellent. Kibble, canned food, and meds? Absolutely not. Freeze-dried food remains under consideration. Also, it is very important for her to bury her food with her nose before eating it. Makes it taste better. Khloe is pee-pad trained and making great housetraining progress, sleeps straight through the night, and is happiest buried under a mountain of blankets. She doesn’t do stairs, isn’t into walks just yet (maybe when it’s warmer), and has never been crate trained ~ but when left alone, she simply curls up on her bed and has a good snooze while she waits for her humans to come back. She would prefer not to be picked up if it's avoidable. Khloe would do fine with another small, calm dog or cat. She could also live with older children (maybe 8+) who are calm and gentle around her. She is a bit of a mimic, so if your other dog likes to bark, she will join in with the song of her people. Khloe has hypothyroidism and, like many white fluffy royal pups, struggles with allergies that haven’t been well controlled. She's also working her way through possible pancreatitis for now. We’ve already started her on a fresh, allergy-friendlier diet and we’ve given her a proper medicated spa bath (which she handled like the quiet, gentle angel she is). Add a brand-new sweater and she’s serving soft reboot. This quiet, sweet girl deserves all the love and all the soft sweaters. She is looking for a calm, patient home that will let her move at her own pace and remind her that she is safe, loved, and home again. Khloe is approximately 12 years old and 9 lbs. Story
Little PrinceMEET MR. BABY!   Mr. Baby is an adorable, sweet ~2 year old little boy who is housebroken, crate trained and walks well on a leash. He is fine with other dogs, although he definitely wants to be in charge (like the little Prince he believes himself to be) and tries to boss his 75 pound bully-mix foster sister around. He absolutely loves cats and is very frustrated that the cats in his foster home don't want to play with him. He loves to play and actually fetches!     Mr. Baby was obviously well taken care of before he found himself homeless and in the shelter. While there he was terrified and wasn’t himself but quickly relaxed and started to shine when he landed in his Tara’s House foster home. It didn’t take long to learn that he loves snuggling with his person. He also likes to be gently brushed and actually seems to appreciate when you take care of his coat, although he doesn't like his paws combed.    Mr. Baby's perfect home would have a calm person who wants a lively and loving little companion. Mr. Baby would be good with a friendly dog that doesn’t mind being bossed around and friendly cats. He is truly a pleasure to wake up to and will definitely enrich his new person's life. As with any small dog, small kids are generally not a good mix.   Mr. Baby’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for him by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.January 1, 2026, 5:37 pm

Story
Meet Clyde. The sweet senior was surrendered with his brother, Charlie, to our rescue by the only family they’ve ever known. While these two boys technically had a home, they were kept in the basement and did not have the care or engagement they deserved. Both dogs came into the rescue in dire need of dental work, both living with pain and infection. Clyde also had a heart murmur that needed medication. Both pups have been fully vetted, had dental work, and been groomed, and they’re getting lots of love and attention and flourishing in wonderful foster homes. These pups are exceptionally sweet, easygoing seniors who do well with cats, dogs, and all people. NOTE: Charlie and Clyde are not bonded, but they are friends. Since they can be adopted as a pair or separately, we are featuring each pup individually. Clyde is a charming 11-year-old Maltese who will melt your heart with his soft cuddles and soulful eyes. He is a very gentle, affectionate, and laid-back boy who loves to be near his people and enjoys cuddling with his dog buddies. His foster home is an active household with a mom, dad, teen son, and two larger dogs, and he does well with everyone. Clyde would thrive in a quiet, loving home with someone who understands the joy and fulfillment of caring for and loving a senior dog. Whether you’re retired, work from home, or just want a sweet companion to keep you company, Clyde is ready to bring his gentle presence into your life. He enjoys short, leisurely strolls or just hanging out at home — he’s very adaptable and the perfect buddy for someone who enjoys a slower pace of life. He would do best in a home with a laidback pup companion and really appreciates the companionship of a dog buddy. As a senior, Clyde has some health issues to manage. He has a grade 4 to 5 heart murmur, which requires daily medications. We had an echocardiogram done to assess his condition, and he was cleared for dental surgery. He’s doing well on the medication and already had his dental cleaning and extractions. He’s feeling so much better now; his mouth infections are gone, and he has a new pep in his step. Clyde’s care will include bi-yearly bloodwork (which all seniors should have) and regular echocardiograms to monitor his heart condition every 6 to 12 months. Because of his past home conditions, Clyde currently wears a belly band during the day to protect him from marking or pee accidents. He knows to potty outside and will always poop outside. We suspect he has a mix of learned behavior from his prior home, older age, and some of the medications he is on make him more prone to potty. He has already learned to hold it overnight and enjoys snuggling up with this foster family in bed, so we’ve seen improvement. His foster mom has also noted that he tends to have more accidents when change or activity happens…so we think he could continue to improve in a calm environment. Despite his medical needs, Clyde’s foster mom, Jenn, describes him as a lovable, low-maintenance companion who is happiest snuggled up beside you or snoozing in a cozy bed. Clyde is a calm little guy who doesn’t ask for much — just a quiet, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years. Clyde may have a few extra needs, but the love he has to give is immeasurable. If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet senior, consider Clyde and apply today. NOTE: Clyde is in Charlotte, NC but can be brought to DC metro upon request!   BREED ESTIMATE: Maltese GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  10.5 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 11 years old COAT TYPE:  Medium-long fluffy coat ADOPTION FEE: $400 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped/recent dental LOCATION: Charlotte, NC   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Alex — Your New Best Snuggle Buddy!   Looking for a calm, gentle soul to fill your home with love?  Alex , a 10-year-old Maltese with a heart of pure gold, might be  the one you’ve been waiting for .  At 10, Alex has mastered what really matters in life: &#226&#156&#168   loving his people &#226&#156&#168   snuggling like a champion &#226&#156&#168   keeping the peace He’ll curl up beside you for hours — on the couch, in bed, wherever you are. If you’ve ever dreamed of having a fluffy little shadow who loves you endlessly, Alex is your guy. Cat lovers, pay attention!  Alex  adores  cats. He lights up around them, and we’re pretty sure he lived with them before joining his foster family. If you’ve got a friendly feline at home, Alex will fit right in. What about dogs?  Alex prefers calm, polite pups. Big dogs make him nervous, and rowdy puppies can overwhelm him. That’s why we believe he’d thrive in a  quiet, low-key home  — the kind of place where he can relax, feel safe, and spend his afternoons lounging peacefully. Don’t let his age fool you — he’s in great shape!  Alex  loves  his walks and struts along beautifully on a leash. He may not know a ton of commands, but he’s incredibly intuitive — he watches you, reads the room, and figures out what you’re asking. He just wants to make his people happy. Kids?  We haven’t seen him around children yet, so a kid-free or older-kid home is likely best. If you’ve got a quiet home, a comfy couch, and room in your heart for the sweetest senior Maltese on the planet,  Alex is ready to love you forever. Come meet Alex — and let him show you what unconditional love feels like. Adoption fee: $375, includes all shots, sterilized, heartworm negative, dewormed, flea preventative, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have.
