Story
Meet Sprout, 5-6 years old This sweet little Maltese weighs around 6 pounds and is super sweet. Sprout was rescued from a puppy mill with his friend Cooper. He's a little bit shy for the first few minutes after meeting you but warms up when a guest gives him a yummy treat. Sprout is used to a secure, fenced yard, so CHR is asking that he go to a home with one. Since his rescue, he is LOVING life! He loves to run around the yard playing and enjoys climbing up to kiss you on your cheek. This little munchkin is used to being around other small dogs in the puppy mill, so we feel he would do best in a household with another small dog. We look forward to hearing from you! NOTE: Sprout and Cooper are friends, so CHR will reduce the adoption fee by 50% for adopting both boys. Apply here: https://fs8.formsite.com/Caringhearts/form1/index

Story
Meet Cooper (6 years old) Cooper is the sweetest dog. He LOVES people and enjoys cuddling more than anything. His happy place is on your lap. He loves everyone he meets and will immediately crawl on laps and give kisses. Cooper is used to going out for a potty break in a fenced back yard. He is not leash trained, but he is so smart we think he will learn to quickly. This boy is an absolute gem and will make someone very happy! Cooper is neutered, has had a dental, and is up to date on all vaccines. Apply here: https://fs8.formsite.com/Caringhearts/form1/index

Story
A favorite among our volunteers, Star is known for her affectionate and sweet nature and her spunky playfulness—a perfect Maltese princess. Star’s foster mom describes her as a “beam of sunshine” who is full of love and gentleness. She loves lap time and gives lots of kisses and enjoys being kissed and fussed over by her humans. She especially likes to sleep or nap with her people. Star gets along well with all the dogs in her foster home and has never met a person or dog she doesn’t like. Star is around 6-7 years old and weighs around 10 pounds. She enjoys spending time in a fenced yard looking for just the right spot to eliminate. As she is okay with going on walks, we would prefer for her to go to a home with a fenced yard just because it's what she is used to. here:https://fs8.formsite.com/Caringhearts/form1/index

Story
https://foha.org/pet/chester2026/ Meet Chester 🌟 Meet Chester! 🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Chester is a sweet little guy with a playful side, a serious love of treats, and one very important request for his future family: please take the time to earn his trust. Once Chester is comfortable with you, you’ll start seeing more of his personality. He LOVES treats, enjoys playing fetch, and can settle nicely when he’s feeling secure. He’s a fun little dog with plenty of potential to become a wonderful companion—but being small does not mean he’s automatically a cuddly, go-anywhere, pick-me-up kind of dog. Chester needs his boundaries to be respected. Based on his behavior, it appears Chester may have had experiences in the past where handling happened regardless of whether he was comfortable with it. Today, he can become worried when he feels pressured or loses the ability to move away. If Chester feels that his earlier signals aren’t being heard, he may snap to create create space. Quick movements can startle him, and he’s particularly uncomfortable having his paws handled. The best way to build a relationship with Chester is to slow down, pay attention to what he’s telling you, and let him set the pace. That means Chester is looking for an adult only home with people who understand that trust isn’t something they’re automatically entitled to because he’s small. He needs people willing to build that relationship with him. The payoff? You’ll get to watch a worried little dog realize that his voice matters, and discover the sweet, playful Chester underneath. 🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I do well with other dogs! I arrived with my brother, Charlie, and the two of us have been described as bonded. FOHA is currently assessing their relationship to determine whether we truly need to be adopted together. We’d certainly be happy to find a home together if the right family comes along, but we may also be able to thrive in separate homes. My friends at FOHA can tell you what they’ve learned about us and help determine the best option. One thing they’ve already noticed is that Charlie and I can feed off each other’s excitement, and I tend to get more riled up when we’re together than I do on my own. 🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS: My friends at FOHA are still learning how I feel about cats. Ask them whether a cat test may be appropriate for me. 👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS: I need an adult only home with no children. Because I can be uncomfortable with unexpected handling, quick movements, and situations where I feel pressured, a predictable adult household that can consistently respect my boundaries will be the best environment for me. 🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Forget obedience school for a minute, I know FETCH! 🎾 I love treats too, so positive, reward based training should give my future family a great way to work with me while strengthening our relationship. Leash walking is another story. I currently pull quite a bit and don’t have much in the way of leash skills, so that’s something my adopter should expect to work on with me. Keeping my harness on can also make handling easier and reduce the amount of physical pressure needed when it’s time to go somewhere. 🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I’m not currently housebroken. I’ve had potty accidents indoors at FOHA, so my future family should expect to start with house training basics rather than assuming I’ll automatically understand the routine. Patience, consistency, frequent opportunities to go outside, and rewarding successful potty trips will help set me up for success. 💖 THINGS I LIKE: Treats • Playing fetch • Other dogs • Familiar people • Having choices • Positive reinforcement • Going at my own pace • Feeling safe and understood ⚠️ THINGS I’M WORKING ON: Building trust with people • Feeling safer about handling • Leash skills • Housebreaking • Staying comfortable around quick movements • Learning that people will listen when I ask for space • Becoming more confident in new environments 📋 FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: Click Here! 💰 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet. Story
https://foha.org/pet/charlie2026-2/ 🌟 Meet Charlie! 🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Charlie is a sweet little guy with a big voice, a lot of feelings, and an enormous appreciation for being cuddled. 💕 If Chester is the brother who needs you to earn his trust before getting physically close, Charlie is much more likely to say, "Actually, could you just pick me up?" Charlie loves attention and affection. He's comfortable being picked up, enjoys being held and cuddled, and happily soaks up love from his people. He's also extremely treat motivated, which is always helpful when you've got some learning to do! And Charlie definitely has some learning to do. New experiences can make him anxious, and that anxiety sometimes comes out as frantic, excitable energy and plenty of vocalizing. Put him together with his brother Chester and the two can amplify each other's excitement considerably. Charlie also arrived without much understanding of leash walking. He may walk slowly, stop frequently, or simply look up at you as though the obvious solution is for you to pick him up and provide transportation. 😂 As tempting as that may be with such a little guy, continuing to help Charlie learn how to confidently navigate the world on his own four feet will be important. He doesn't seem to need enormous amounts of physical exercise—a roughly 10-minute loop was enough to tire him out—but he'll benefit from opportunities to build confidence and learn how to settle when life gets exciting. 🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I came to FOHA with my brother, Chester, and we've been described as bonded. FOHA is currently assessing our relationship to determine whether we truly need to be adopted together. We'd certainly love to find the right home together if that's what's best for us, but we may also be able to successfully transition into separate homes. One thing FOHA has noticed is that Chester and I tend to feed off each other's energy, and my already excitable personality can become much more intense when we're together. My friends at FOHA will continue learning about our relationship as well as how I do with other dogs. 🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS: My friends at FOHA are still learning how I feel about cats. Ask them whether a cat test may be appropriate for me. 👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS: Older, respectful kids may be a good fit for me. I'm a sweet and affectionate little guy, but I can also be anxious and easily overwhelmed by lots of excitement. Kids who are old enough to understand my body language, give me space when I need it, and interact with me calmly would likely be the best match. My friends at FOHA can help determine whether I'll be comfortable with the children in your family. 🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Right now, one of my biggest projects is simply learning how to walk on a leash! I don't seem to have much previous leash experience. I may walk slowly, stop along the way, and occasionally look to my person to pick me up instead. I'm also VERY treat motivated, which gives us a great starting point for positive training. With patience and practice, I can work on leash skills while also building confidence in unfamiliar environments. 🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: My housebreaking status is currently unknown. Since my friends at FOHA don't have enough information yet to say whether I'm housebroken, my future family should be prepared to help me learn a consistent potty routine while we figure it out together. 💖 THINGS I LIKE: Being held • Cuddling • Attention • Treats • Being close to people • Getting picked up • Affection • Spending time with my brother • Making sure everyone can hear my opinions ⚠️ THINGS I'M WORKING ON: Leash walking • Building confidence • Managing my excitement • Learning how to settle • Using my indoor voice • Navigating new environments on my own four feet • Not letting my brother convince me that everything requires MAXIMUM ENERGY FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS – Click Here!(opens in new tab) Since I have reached my golden years, I am eligible for the Senior Care Plan (learn more here(opens in new tab)).
