Check out this patriotic little guy!   Meet Baxter! If you're searching for a loving new family member, your search ends here. Baxter is a 12-pound, 2-3-year-old Malti Tzu (a Maltese and Shih Tzu mix), and he embodies all the best, sweetest traits of both breeds.  Ater a few days in his foster home, Baxter found his voice.  Yes he has that Maltese trait.  For this reason, Baxter is not suited to apartment life.   Baxter was found as a stray in Nashville after someone suspected he’d been hit by a car and brought him to the emergency vet. Thankfully, there were no broken bones>  He has now totally healed from a sore back leg. (Hih had X-rays when he was neutered.  Everything now looks good.) We wish Baxter could tell us what happened and how he ended up on his own—it’s hard to imagine any family not wanting such a sweet boy.   Baxter is both a people-lover and a dog’s dog! He loves to play and would thrive with a young, active canine companion in his forever home. He adores people and always wants to be by your side—be prepared to never be alone again! His leg never slowed him down; he still jumps on the furniture to be with his foster mom whenever steps are available.   This young gentleman walks well on a leash and is fully housebroken. He loves going on adventures and rides like a champ in the car—he even prefers the back seat, though he’s happy on a passenger’s lap, too! Story
Prince is a purebred Maltese, 5 years old, and the sweetest boy you could ask for. He's been by my side since he was a puppy, and the hardest part of writing this is knowing how much he loves to stick close. He'll follow you from room to room just to be near you and he's just as happy curled up next to you on the couch as he is playing. He's a wonderful mix of playful and mellow, always up for some playtime, but just as content to relax and unwind when the day winds down. He's affectionate, loyal and thrives on companionship, so he'd do best with a family who wants a devoted little sidekick. I'm rehoming Prince only because of a health issue (allergies) that's made it impossible for me to keep him, not because of anything he's done. He is one of the best dogs I've ever known. I'm looking for a loving home where he'll continue to be treated like family, get plenty of affection, and have someone who'll appreciate just how much love he has to give.

Meet Sprout, 5-6 years old This sweet little Maltese weighs around 6 pounds and is super sweet. Sprout was rescued from a puppy mill, along with his brother Cooper, listed below. Sprout is shy when you meet him, which can lead to him being overlooked by many adopters. We know it's due to fear. For this reason, we have him also listed under our Safe Haven Sanctuary, where he will always be safe if he is never adopted. ​Since his rescue, he is LOVING life! He loves to run around the yard playing and enjoys climbing up to kiss you on your cheek. This little munchkin is used to being around other small dogs in the puppy mill, so we feel he would do best in a household with another small dog. Sprout had a complete dental where most of his teeth were removed. He also had blood work, and he's in excellent health. We look forward to hearing from you! Story
Sweet Star came to CHR a year ago in rough condition at the age of 5 or 6 years old.  She lived in a puppy mill, where she was bred to produce puppies for sale. She lived in a small shed with access to the outdoors through a doggie door. Recently, Star was diagnosed with a torn cruciate, so on 6/19 she will have orthopedic surgery to repair the cruciate tear. We’re keeping Star in our Safe Haven Sanctuary while she recovers, but we are still looking for her forever home if the fit is good for you and her.  Star’s foster mom describes her as a beam of sunshine. She’s spunky and full of love and gentleness, and she kisses humans and dogs alike. She enjoys walking through a fenced yard to find just the right spot to eliminate.  We’re asking her to go to a home with a fenced yard. Star loves to nap by your side. She is like a sponge, absorbing your hugs and kisses daily.  One of the biggest challenges with Star is that she will sometimes(1-2 times a week) eliminates on top of dog beds. This could be a marking behavior from being in the puppy mill. Her foster mom picks up the beds before feeding to make sure there are no triggers, like after eating, when she may go eliminate on them or she immediately lets her out for a potty break after eating. Star is also let out every 3 hours during the day for a potty break. At night, she does well without accidents, but she may have accidents for the first few months in any house she goes to, so we recommend diapers for this cutie at night during the beginning of her stay with you. Star does not enjoy being crated, and it's not recommended for a puppy mill survivor.. Meet Cooper (5-6 years old) ​Cooper is the sweetest dog. He LOVES people and enjoys cuddling with his people more than anything. He is very demanding when it comes to getting attention, so keep this in mind if you have other dogs, because his happy place is on your lap. Cooper is used to going out for a potty break in a fenced back yard. He is so smart, so we think he will learn to walk on a leash over time. Cooper is a Maltese who weights around 8 pounds. He came from a puppy mill. He was neutered and had a complete dental, losing seven teeth. Cooper is so sweet he could be a therapy dog.
