Story
Coconut(Coco) is a 8 yo Maltese weighing 8 lbs that we rescued from a commercial breeding kennel.  Coco is learning what it means to live in a home - steps, new noises, doors, touch, TV’s, leashes etc. Coco had to have her remaining teeth removed due to decay but has no trouble eating soft food. She has a great appetite. She is learning to go potty outside, walk around the neighborhood on a leash, enjoying good soft food and exploring the yard. She loves liverwurst, chicken and beef hot dogs so she will come and take from my hand and if the refrigerator door opens, she runs over just in check it’s something for her.  She is good in the crate but I do take her out on a regular schedule to potty train. She knows “go potty”. We are working on a dry crate through the night and doing really well with that. She will need another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes and build her confidence. I do have a fenced yard and stays near me; but without a fence, she will need to be on a leash to be safe. If you are willing to understand it will take time, lots of patience, moving slowly, regular routines, it will be worth it.  Mill dogs make the best pets ever who will bond with you forever. Her fur is growing in as she came in shaved.  The brown is from licking with a mouth full of bacteria caused by her decaying teeth.  We have removed those teeth and with good food and regular grooming, her looks will blossom.   Coconut is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00. If interested in adopting Coconut,  please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application. Story
Lola is a 15-year-old, 10½ lb small companion dog (likely Maltese/Shih Tzu mix) with a sweet, affectionate nature and calm presence. After a lifetime with one loving owner, she’s seeking a quiet home where she can be a close companion again. She is in good health for her age, mobile, and engaged. Lola enjoys short walks, exploring at her own pace, and staying near her people—whether following you around or resting beside you. She is house trained, sleeps through the night, and uses her crate as a comfortable space. She walks well on a leash and settles when left alone for short periods, sometimes barking briefly before calming. Lola is gentle and people-oriented. She may be shy at first but bonds closely and enjoys being held. She can manage stairs slowly and may appreciate help onto furniture. She has some age-related hearing and vision loss but adapts well. With limited pet exposure, she would do best in a calm, consistent home.

Story
PLEASE READ BELOW FOR OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION LINK MEET DEXTER the MALTI-CHON-POO North New Jersey Dexter is an 18lb 10 yo Maltese-Bichon-Poodle and the sweetest little dude. Dexter was loved his whole life but unfortunately his elderly owner could no longer care for him. He is loving, gentle, and quiet and would be a wonderful companion for someone who is retired or works from home and wants a buddy to hang out with. Dexter loves to nap and EAT and enjoys meandering around the yard sniffing all the smells. In his former home he didn’t have a yard so he is accustomed to going for walks. He lived with another small breed dog in his former home and currently in his foster home and doesn’t have much interest in them. He very much prefers his human but he is pretty independent as well. He is just an all-around easy going guy that is just happy to have a soft bed and yummy food with some pets and loving in between. Dexter is not a fussy eater but his tummy was a bit of figuring out. He landed on a basic kibble and has been regular since. He was brought UTD, HW negative, had a dental and cherry eye removal (it won’t come back), full blood work and xrays, he is neutered, and he is housebroken for outside but he will use potty pads if available. He is a loving little guy that deserves his special person for the holidays. If you are interested in meeting Dexter please fill out our adoption application (link below) and read our process (below and on our website). Please note we do not reply to all applications we receive, unfortunately we do not have the bandwidth to do so at this time. We only reply if we would like to move forward with your application and we will get in touch relatively quickly so please watch your email and answer your phone. Thank you very much in advance for your understanding!! His adoption donation is $450. TO BE CONSIDERED, PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION We only process complete applications and providing false information immediately disqualifies you from adopting. https://gingerbreaddogs.org/adopt-overview/adoption-application/ Please follow our Facebook page to see new dogs as they arrive and to keep up on the daily shenanigans: https://www.facebook.com/gingerbreaddogs ABOUT OUR PROCESS: WE ONLY CONTACT APPLICANTS WITH WHOM WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD. We typically get in touch within 24-48 hours, but it may take up to 10 days. Please watch your email and answer your phone (from 201 area code) after you submit an application. Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to reply to all applicants. We also do not have the manpower to accept phone calls. Everything we know about the dog is posted above. Our adoption process is on our website. You can see more about our daily operations on our Facebook page. PLEASE call your vet office right now and give them permission to speak with rescues if you are applying to adopt from any rescue. Ask them to mark your file. If they will not speak with us, we will move on to the next application and you will not be considered. We consider out-of-area adoptions on a case-by-case basis. All meet & greets and adoptions are held in north New Jersey, and we do not transport our pups. You must come to NJ. We also do not “hold” dogs. It is “first qualified, first come” and our expectation is you will move quickly to conduct the meet & greet if you are approved. An approved application does not guarantee adoption of any dog from our rescue, and we reserve the right to deny adoption at any point during the process.
