Pop Quiz ❓ 🤔 Your child “falls” on your dog. The dog is limping and not bearing weight on his back leg, now growling and snapping when touched or approached by the child and when anyone tries to touch his back end, and clearly freaked out and in a lot of pain. Do you A: Bring the dog to the vet immediately for pain medication and x-rays? B: Wait and let him limp around a few days. Then call an extremely full local county shelter with over 100 dogs to immediately surrender him since he’s suddenly become aggressive and the child is now scared to approach him, You probably got the answer wrong. It’s clearly B. A no-brainer of course 🤷‍♀️. Don’t feel bad, we would have answered wrong too 🤣 Well little Poochie was surrendered to us and shockingly we brought him right to the vet. He was even more terrified, an already unsocialized little guy now in severe pain having to be handled by strangers. His x-rays revealed a completely dislocated hip that requires surgery to repair and get him comfortable again. He’s just a baby, purchased from a pet store as a puppy as a “designer” Malshi (Maltese/Shih tzu), 14lbs and just over a year old. He’s very scared and distrustful right now but we are hoping once he is out of pain and gets his bearings in a new place he will learn to trust and be a sweet little guy once again, at least with those he trusts. He’s had his FHO surgery and is recovering nicely and starting to use his leg a little more every day. He’s warmed up to us and is a lovable spunky puppy with those he trusts, but needs time to warm up to strangers. For adoption Northern NJ: Looking for a Velcro dog? Hula is your girl! Can’t find her? Look down, she’s probably right there at your feet. Either weaving between your feet, or sitting there staring up at you adoringly with her big brown eyes, or standing on her hind legs trying to get your attention with a dance. This sweetheart is about 2 years old and already had at least one litter of pups. She was found running in the street, and when a neighbor brought her home, the owner didn’t want her back. So she’s on to bigger better things and looking for a responsible home where she’s actually wanted. She’s said to be a maltipoo, is about 10lbs and seems to have a nonshedding coat that needs to be groomed regularly. She’s ok with most dogs but definitely more of a people person. She doesn’t believe in crates and even used her long spider legs to open the door to let herself out of one somehow. She was used to wee wee pads previously but will go outside if taken out as well. But expect some accidents especially if left alone. She prefers a home with someone home more often than not, and definitely wants to sleep in bed and climb on your couches so if you don’t like dogs on the furniture and right in your face she’s not for you. Meet Gordon! This scruffy young guy was a “stray” brought to a local inner city shelter, terrified and with painful raw bleeding paws. He was very freaked out and defensive especially being leashed at first but has warmed up into a cute lovable little terrier who asks to be picked up once he trusts you. He’s definitely an insecure anxious baby boy and still has his panicky moments, and needs a calmer adult home that won’t force him into situations that are too much for him and give him time and space to feel safe. He’s only 1-2 years old, 10lbs, some kind of scruffy Maltese/terrier mix but doesn’t have a non-shedding coat so just a quick comb out and trim here and there are all he needs. He’s ok with other little dogs but gets scared of them too if they come on too strong. He seems to have been wee wee pad trained and we suspect didn’t get out in the world too much so will need to be slowly socialized in a positive way.
