Story
Coconut(Coco) is a 8 yo Maltese weighing 8 lbs that we rescued from a commercial breeding kennel.  Coco is learning what it means to live in a home - steps, new noises, doors, touch, TV’s, leashes etc. Coco had to have her remaining teeth removed due to decay but has no trouble eating soft food. She has a great appetite. She is learning to go potty outside, walk around the neighborhood on a leash, enjoying good soft food and exploring the yard. She loves liverwurst, chicken and beef hot dogs so she will come and take from my hand and if the refrigerator door opens, she runs over just in check it’s something for her.  She is good in the crate but I do take her out on a regular schedule to potty train. She knows “go potty”. We are working on a dry crate through the night and doing really well with that. She will need another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes and build her confidence. I do have a fenced yard and stays near me; but without a fence, she will need to be on a leash to be safe. If you are willing to understand it will take time, lots of patience, moving slowly, regular routines, it will be worth it.  Mill dogs make the best pets ever who will bond with you forever. Her fur is growing in as she came in shaved.  The brown is from licking with a mouth full of bacteria caused by her decaying teeth.  We have removed those teeth and with good food and regular grooming, her looks will blossom.   Coconut is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00. If interested in adopting Coconut,  please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application. Story
Meet Mattie – Your Quiet Little Shadow! Mattie is an 18-month-old Maltipoo with a tender heart and a gentle soul. This sweet girl is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can continue to grow in confidence at her own pace.Mattie is very timid and can be frightened by sudden movements or loud noises. Because of this, she would do best in a peaceful home with older, respectful children who understand the importance of moving slowly and giving her space when she needs it.She would absolutely thrive with a patient, confident mentor dog. Mattie takes comfort in other dogs and would love a furry friend who doesn’t mind if she snuggles up close — or even lays right on top of them! Having that steady canine presence helps her feel safe and secure.Mattie is doing well with her house training. She consistently goes outside and has only had accidents on her pee pads. With continued routine and gentle encouragement, she will keep making progress. She is not destructive at all and does not tear things up — she’s a very respectful little lady in the home. She ignores cats and coexists peacefully with them. On walks, she’s still learning how to feel confident on a leash, so a securely fenced yard is a must for her safety and comfort.Mattie will happily follow you from room to room and prefers to stay close by your side. She isn’t overly cuddly or demanding of lap time — she simply wants to be near her person, finding comfort in your presence without constantly needing to be held.If you have a quiet home, a fenced yard, and a kind-hearted dog willing to show her the way, Mattie could be the perfect addition to your family. With patience, love, and reassurance, she will blossom into the most loyal little companion. bcaaofnj.org Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! Story
Lola is a 15-year-old, 10½ lb small companion dog (likely Maltese/Shih Tzu mix) with a sweet, affectionate nature and calm presence. After a lifetime with one loving owner, she’s seeking a quiet home where she can be a close companion again. She is in good health for her age, mobile, and engaged. Lola enjoys short walks, exploring at her own pace, and staying near her people—whether following you around or resting beside you. She is house trained, sleeps through the night, and uses her crate as a comfortable space. She walks well on a leash and settles when left alone for short periods, sometimes barking briefly before calming. Lola is gentle and people-oriented. She may be shy at first but bonds closely and enjoys being held. She can manage stairs slowly and may appreciate help onto furniture. She has some age-related hearing and vision loss but adapts well. With limited pet exposure, she would do best in a calm, consistent home.
