One of our longest residents, she is still shy with new people but the bashfulness passes. Of course I did! Because she made it so easy. It took her a second to open up, which I was expecting. But all she needed were some yummy treats and some love. And the love she gives back to you is quite endless. She`ll greet you with a big hug the moment you get home. She`ll rest her head on you once you both start to get tired. &#10 You might occasionally have to coax her to play, but she commits to the game once you do. Nelly loves tug of war, and in our small apartment she would still somehow make a game of fetch. &#10 She was quite timid and shy at first with new people [who came over], but once she gets a sense of their smell and that they are a person that you trust, she begins to open up to them, too. &#10 Nelly gives cute little kisses and provides you with a comfortable presence. &#10 I will say this girl has some sass in terms of where she wants to go when walking… she might sit and toss her head saying `no I want to go this way.` It`s pretty cute. And again, with patience and some coaxing she listens. &#10 She is house trained and will communicate when she needs to go outside. &#10 `Nelly is a wonderful dog. It might take a `second` for her to open up, but that is only because she believes she has to guard herself for quite some time. &#10 If you give her a chance, she will become your adventure buddy, your cuddle buddy, and your genuine and loyal friend for life.`&#10 &#10 Nelly has been at FAAS for more than a year and deserves a forever home of her own. I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog M:2 Introducing Periwinkle, the adorable 88-pound boy with a heart as gentle as his eyes! Periwinkle loves to sniff around but eagerly seeks interaction with you. This big fella is currently working on leash manners -- with a fondness for treats and a gentle mouth, he's a delight to train. Periwinkle is energetic when meeting other dogs at the shelter, so he may benefit from learning additional social skills. He is recommended for adoption with appropriately matched tolerant dogs, or as a solo dog with friends outside of the home. In his foster home, he picked up sit and stay cues quickly, and seems eager to learn. He is working on polite leash skills and is picking it up with treats and praise. He wants everyone to stop and pet him and tell him what a handsome boy he is. And doesn't really understand yet that not everyone wants to approach a giant dog like him. He seems incredibly eager to have dog friends, but seems a little too interested in small critters maybe not a great fit for a home with cats or small dogs.  He loves a good game of tug-o-war, is great at getting treats out of little puzzle toys, and really appreciates a good chew toy. He is grateful for a soft place to lay like a dog bed or couch and gravitates to those spaces to rest. He sleeps most of the day and is mostly a good, chill boy.  Periwinkle's eagerness to bond makes him the best companion for adventures big and small.
