DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** Kona is beloved by her family to include children, ages 9, 12, and 15; she's 1 1/2 years old and weighs 66lbs; she is also spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped. Unfortunately, though, she has become reactive to strangers and other kids. Kona's guardian with great admiration for Kona explains: " While our dog is the perfect, loving housedog in our family with 3 children and has never harmed any of us in any way, she has been reactive with other kids and strangers. She has never bit anyone, but has lunged on her hine legs at strangers and kids and her 66 pound frame can knock someone over. She is muzzle trained, potty trained, and crate trained and knows a handful of commands (sit, down, spin, paw, touch, place, leave it (sometimes). look, stay, wait, come (as long as we aren't outside). Unfortunately, at this point, if we cannot rehome her, we will be forced to surrender her to the humane society and if they will not take her, she will have to be put down. We have no other choice. She is honestly the sweetest dog and I hate having to do this because I know that she could make another person so happy and doesn't deserve this fate. She needs to be with someone that does not have children and is perfectly okay with her staying a house dog with not much interaction with others." Lunge/Attack Incident: In September 2022, Kona lunged at a 12-yo child entering Kona's home. Kona didn't bite the girl and animal control was not involved. Kona's guardian further explains: " The girl walked into the house behind me and Kona lunged at her and barked at her. Kona has also lunged in the same manner at a woman whom she had never met before in a new environment." Kona's guardian explains why she is making the heart-breaking decision to rehome her: " We love this dog with all our heart, but we simply cannot keep her due to her reactivity with strangers, especially kids. Kona's guardian states the following about children: Although Kona lives with 3 children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children because Kona "is hyperaware of them and intently focused on them" Kona's guardian states the following about dogs: Kona hasn't lived with dogs and her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs. Kona's guardian further explains: " It is touch and go and depends on the dog. Any stare down from another dog or aggressive bark and it sets Kona off. She has gotten into a scuffle with another dog because of this at the dog park. Since then we are very selective with which dogs she interacts with." Kona's guardian states the following about cats: Kona has lived with a cat (in a temporary foster home) and since Kona kept chasing the cat, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats. Kona's guardian describes additional medical procedures: Spayed and stomach stapled to prevent flipping in a procedure on 10/3/22. Kona's guardian describes her future ideal home/family: " The ideal future home would be one with no kids and no other pets. Ideally someone who doesn't host a lot of parties or have a lot of people over. The commotion doesn't sit well with Kona. She is a fairly laid back dog that doesn't require a lot of exercise. A ten minute walk each day and she is good." Kona's guardian describes her as follows: " We have done up to 1 hour rides in the car and she has never gotten sick, but she does end up panting on those longer rides. She loves going for rides."
