Story
Age:5 Weight: 130 Location: Hagerstown, MD Nicknames: BeBe, Beanbag Bea, Potato Good with other dogs?: Dog selective. She has lived with other dogs but can not be around food and other dogs. She is dog selective. She does have food aggression with other animals with either dog food or human food. But she has no aggression to people AT ALL and the only animal aggression is if there is food out, as she lived without food in deplorable conditions. She needs slow introductions to other dogs. She is now used to the other dogs barking in the neighborhood on our walks and it doesn't bother her anymore. Good with cats? yes Good with children? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with kids under 10 Activity Preference: Needs a couple walks a day., Low maintenance overall but needs quality outside time., Will go with the flow, Champion couch potato IQ: Average Bea's favorite things: Bea LOVES car rides, humans, walks, and to just be directly beside you. She wants to be your best friend and your helper with whatever you do. Got a treat? She’s in. Wanna walk? She’s in. Wanna do yard work? She’s in. When it’s nice out, she rather be out rolling around on her back though, so she won’t get much work done. Bea is good at: meeting people, behaving in the house, going for car rides, walking on a leash Ideal home: no children, someone at home most of the day, a fenced yard, Lots of exercise opportunities Training Needs: Health issues: None, she's super happy and healthy! Meet Bea Bea came to ABR from a horrible hoarding situation in Georgia. She had a few months in a foster in Georgia while she was spayed and going through heartworm treatment. Once she was cleared, she came to Maryland to join American Bulldog Rescue. Bea LOVES her routine, and by routine, she wants to be walking no later than 15 minutes after breakfast. Bea loves to be with you, 'helping' with whatever you are doing. She loves car rides and just sits back and doesn't 'back seat drive' She has a beanbag here and is obsessed with it. Bea loves her walks and we do at least a mile each morning. She loves to flip on her back and scratch on our walks and is always looking for a new human to meet. We are sure she would get into any car with a stranger. =) She is 130 pounds, and strong, so if she sees a squirrel or rabbit, she will pull. Other than that, we have worked hard on leash training and she's doing great. Bea will need a fenced yard. She loves her walks, but also likes to relax in the yard while we are outside. She does chew through harnesses and leashes if she's left alone, and she will run off if she has the opportunity. She loves to explore and sniff around, so she will follow her nose! Bea does have a stubborn streak, but with structure and routines, she's been less stubborn and goes with the flow and is just a happy mastiff. *Bea does have a history of food (human food and her food) with other animals (cats and dogs), but does not have an issue with humans and food. Since coming to us in Maryland, we have not tested this. *Bea’s best situation would be the only dog so she can have run of the house, and be your best friend. To be considered for adoption, you must apply using our free, online application. Our dogs are fostered in our volunteers' homes, not in a central shelter/location. Only approved applicants are put into contact with the foster family to setup a meeting with the foster dog. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Kona is beloved by her family to include children, ages 9, 12, and 15; she's 1 1/2 years old and weighs 66lbs; she is also spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Unfortunately, though, she has become reactive to strangers and other kids.  Kona's guardian with great admiration for Kona explains:  " While our dog is the perfect, loving housedog in our family with 3 children and has never harmed any of us in any way, she has been reactive with other kids and strangers.  She has never bit anyone, but has lunged on her hine legs at strangers and kids and her 66 pound frame can knock someone over.  She is muzzle trained, potty trained, and crate trained and knows a handful of commands (sit, down, spin, paw, touch, place, leave it (sometimes). look, stay, wait, come (as long as we aren't outside).   Unfortunately, at this point, if we cannot rehome her, we will be forced to surrender her to the humane society and if they will not take her, she will have to be put down. We have no other choice.   She is honestly the sweetest dog and I hate having to do this because I know that she could make another person so happy and doesn't deserve this fate.   She needs to be with someone that does not have children and is perfectly okay with her staying a house dog with not much interaction with others." Lunge/Attack Incident:  In September 2022, Kona lunged at a 12-yo child entering Kona's home.  Kona didn't bite the girl and animal control was not involved.  Kona's guardian further explains:  " The girl walked into the house behind me and Kona lunged at her and barked at her. Kona has also lunged in the same manner at a woman whom she had never met before in a new environment." Kona's guardian explains why she is making the heart-breaking decision to rehome her:  " We love this dog with all our heart, but we simply cannot keep her due to her reactivity with strangers, especially kids. Kona's guardian states the following about children: Although Kona lives with 3 children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children because Kona "is hyperaware of them and intently focused on them"   Kona's guardian states the following about dogs:  Kona hasn't lived with dogs and her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs.  Kona's guardian further explains:  " It is touch and go and depends on the dog. Any stare down from another dog or aggressive bark and it sets Kona off. She has gotten into a scuffle with another dog because of this at the dog park. Since then we are very selective with which dogs she interacts with." Kona's guardian states the following about cats:  Kona has lived with a cat (in a temporary foster home) and since Kona kept chasing the cat, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats.   Kona's guardian describes additional medical procedures:   Spayed and stomach stapled  to prevent flipping in a procedure on 10/3/22.   Kona's guardian describes her future ideal home/family:  " The ideal future home would be one with no kids and no other pets. Ideally someone who doesn't host a lot of parties or have a lot of people over. The commotion doesn't sit well with Kona. She is a fairly laid back dog that doesn't require a lot of exercise.  A ten minute walk each day and she is good."   Kona's guardian describes her as follows:  " We have done up to 1 hour rides in the car and she has never gotten sick, but she does end up panting on those longer rides. She loves going for rides."   Couch potato Barks alot Playful Fence Jumper Likes to be touched Fearful Independent Protective Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women   Rehoming Fee:  None   Location:  Bel Air, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1. This big beautiful girl LOVES people.  Bailey is very well behaved and only asks that she be the only dog in the family. Bailey has no desire for dog parks.  She wants nothing more than to spend all her time with her family, chasing tennis balls and having an occasional ice cream cone.. Bailey can't wait to find a loving adopter, so be ready for all those doggy kisses she’s saving just for you!  How can anyone say no to this big bundle of love!!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/  . Story
My name is TJ and I came very close to not being here today because people kept handing me off and one of the people who took me home got in trouble at her apartment complex and she took me to a shelter waited outside of the shelter to turn me in.  I had a skin issue at the time and because of my size and the skin condition, I would have truly been euthanized.  But Critter Cavalry Rescue had me dropped off at their vet and they immediately took care of me and my skin condition and got me neutered.  I am the nicest Mastiff boy and I am 3 years old and weigh 85 pounds.  Everyone says I am a sweetheart and so kind and nice with everyone and most all other dogs not bigger than him.  NO CATS.  I love people and I love life!   I really want to have a family to take me home and let me sleep at the foot of their bed in a big dog bed and who will take him for adventure walks and hikes too!  If you want a gentle giant boy to love and who will love you back with everything in his soul…. Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   I am ready to find my REAL stable place in life and not get moved around.  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comOctober 1, 2023, 11:13 pm
