We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 dog/cat that you are interested in.-Attach a copy of proof of home ownership (i.e. tax bill, deed, or mortgage payment – you can black out the account #, etc.) or animal clause/agreement of your rental agreement. This must be in a .jpeg format. If you are unable to send in this format, please be prepared to provide this documentation in another way prior to adoption.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other dogs/cats. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Red!!! Red came into our care a few weeks ago when we received a plea to get him off the streets. Poor Red was dumped in Rouge Park, where he has been living for the last year and a half :( We had a wonderful foster family step up to take Red in although they do not have a PRIVACY FENCE which is making things very difficult to keep Red safe. Red made it through the excruciating heat, the freezing nights and days without having a meal. Now that he is in our care those days are behind him, but we need a foster home or an ADOPTER with a PRIVACY fence to ensure this boy stays safe. Red is a sweet boy that is learning how to be a dog all over again. He is low maintenance in the home setting but has become quite the escape artist with your standing 4 ft fence. Could you be Red’s HERO and let him crash with you while he goes through his heartworm treatment? (Heartworm disease is NOT contagious) All he requires is a warm home with a PRIVACY FENCE. We provide all supplies needed to foster and all medical care is covered as well! PLEASE consider helping Red!!! *8 years old *74 lbs. *Potty trained although he does mark sometimes. (We provide belly bands to avoid any accidents) *Working on crate training *Loves to relax and watch movies *Dog selective with proper intros (No Cats) *Loves going for walked and exploring Please complete an application to HELP Red TODAY!!!! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Our new English Mastiff Gemma is an undeniable beauty! She was born 6/15/23 .  Gemma’s learning new things in her foster home with three other dogs. She’s started vaccines & deworming. Next is some puppy social classes to her get ready for her forever family. Little Miss needs to gain some solid weight. Now with good food & deworming she’ll start gaining a lot! Right now she’s 42 pounds. Gemma needs a mastiff experienced home. And a neutered male that’s easy going & balanced would be fabulous for her. Definitely no babies or toddlers. Older kids 12 plus who have grown up with dogs would be best. A secure fenced yard is mandatory. Sorry no exceptions. Continued training, exercise with positive social experiences are a must. Since Gemma was denied that early on it’s critical for her success that she gain lots of it going forward. Good With Kids: Ages 12 and up Good With Other Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: Not Sure Housetrained: Yes Crate Trained: No House Manners: Good, but could use some work Walks Nicely On A Leash: Great! Knows Basic Commands: Sit, but we’re working on it. Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Moderate Special Needs: None Physical Fence: Preferred / No Invisible Fences Nickname: Brock-Lobster Likes long walks, Sunbathing, Taste-Testing Arrival story: Brock was pulled from Detroit Animal Control Approximate age / Weight: 10-ish Years young, 95 LBS Hey guys - I’m so excited to meet you! I’m Brock! I’m about 10 years young, but my foster parents think I may be a bit younger. I love going for walks and am great on leash! I enjoy trotting around town checking out new spaces. I get bursts of energy throughout the day, so walks or playtime are needed so I can enjoy my best life. I’d probably enjoy adventuring, but I'm perfectly content to just lounge around. I love playing tug or chasing the ball outside or just relaxing and chewing on Benebones or other chews. Pigs ears and bully sticks are my absolute favorite. I’m also a bit of a foodie! I love trying new foods, but watch out! Sometimes I get over excited about treats and get a little too chompy, so watch your fingers. I love everyone I meet, but because of my size and energy around taking treats, I would do better in a home with teenagers or adults. I look forward to meeting you and hope I can become a special part of your family. Contact: Please contact wtdr@waggintailsdogrescue.org with any questions or submit adoption application via our website www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoption-application. ADOPTION INFO: We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar on our website for the date and time of the next adoption event. Puppies (under 6 months) $250 + $50 refundable Spay/Neuter deposit + $50 refundable Training deposit.
