Story
Peetsie Pie came to Chicago from one of our partner shelters in Laredo, Texas at the end of August and we're not sure how this sweet girl hasn't been scooped up yet! She is just under a year old and is a medium sized dog. Peetsie Pie gets along great with our dogs and has done well when interacting with children. Although this girl absolutely loves to play, she does not shy away from cuddling up next to her human companions. She's the perfect balance between play and rest. She is crate trained and food motivated, always ready to learn something new - she's currently working on some fun tricks with "sit pretty" and "shake". She's a smart cookie that loves to explore her surroundings. Her foster describes her as sweet, smart and ready to learn! This social butterfly can't wait to start her next adventure with her new family!

Story
Long live the underdog! There's a reason we here at CCR are dedicated to the dogs with the worst luck - because these dogs need us the most and make the most amazing transformations! Roux (prounounced Roo) is the perfect example of what love, patience, and commitment can do for a dog in need!Roux is a 40 pound mountain cur mix who is just about 2 years old. Roux first arrived at CCR from a shelter in Arkansas where she had been deprived of human contact for most of her life. When Roux walked in the door, it was clear that not only was she absolutely petrified...she was hugely PREGNANT! Roux was terrified and just a few days away from giving birth. An amazing foster mom immediately stepped up and took Roux into her home - the last thing this poor pup needed was to give birth in a scary shelter! About a week after she went to her foster home, Roux gave birth to 7 healthy, happy puppies! Her foster mom spent the next 2 months helping Roux raise her babies, and then it was finally time for Roux to be the center of attention. It was clear that Roux needed another dog in her foster home - she really only came to life when she had a canine buddy to play with. So Roux moved into a different foster home to begin her mental and emotional rehabilitation.Roux has been living happily in her foster home for the past couple of months, and she is absolutely thriving! Roux is a super playful, active gal who ADORES every dog she meets. She loves to wrestle and rough house, and she will play "keep away" with her people when her dog friends are too tired for play! While Roux loves dogs, please not that she cannot live with cats. It's taken longer for Roux to trust the humans in her home - she is absolutely NEVER nippy, but she isn't super comfortable with pets and takes awhile to warm up to new people. Her foster mom spent lots of time giving Roux personal space, playing with her, giving her treats, and never forcing her to do anything she wasn't ready for...and now Roux loves body massages from her foster mama!Roux is looking for a home that has another playful dog that wants a buddy as much as she does, but we are learning that isn't a requirement! Roux is the kind of dog is happy and comfortable when she's part of a dog pack but also is really coming out of her shell as the only dog as well! Her forever humans will need to have a fenced yard to help Roux acclimate to her new home slowly without having to go for leash walks and to give her lots of space to play and wrestle. Roux LOVES to get the zoomies in the yard! Roux will take time to get comfortable with her new people, and physical affection will take extra time. But Roux will show you she loves you in other ways - she will squeal with joy when you come home from work, she will lay on the bed next to you, she will take treats gently and with gratitude, and she will play chase with you for hours in the yard! And then, one day, you will be giving Roux body massages, too, and you'll know you earned her forever trust and devotion! If you have another playful dog who would love a sibling, a fenced yard, and extra love in your heart for the underdog, please submit an application to adopt Roux at chicagocaninerescue.org!

Story
Interested in a companion who's smart, loyal, playful, and drop dead gorgeous? Well look no further because Chloe is here and she's jumping at the chance to be your friend! It's honestly kind of a mystery why Chloe has been stuck at CCR for as long as she has (almost 2 YEARS!), none of us can quite figure it out. This spunky lady has all the best characteristics a dog can have, and at about 2 years old she's the perfect age for someone who's unsure about taking on the responsibility of a puppy but still wants some youthful energy. Chloe is a 41lb mountain cur full of life and practically bursting at the seams with love to give. Her favorite activity in the world is fetch, and we really mean that! She literally never tires of bolting as fast as she can after whatever you throw for her before diligently returning it back at your feet - every single time! And she loves to love! When she's not breaking the sound barrier with her zoomies, Chloe thrives on love and affection from people. We have no doubt she'd make an excellent complementary couch potato. To balance out all that sweetness, Chloe does have a touch of spice. She was actually returned to us after initially being adopted because she didn't get along with the other dog in the home. She's also easily excitable and has a habit of repeatedly jumping on people, so she'll need someone to invest some time into teaching her healthy boundaries. Chloe can sometimes be difficult on leash as well, but we don't believe this is an ingrained behavior and it should be easily corrected with a bit of training.Chloe being stuck in a kennel for as long as she has feels like an injustice, she's done nothing wrong but endure a streak of bad luck. If you feel like making a new best friend, please consider making her the next addition to your home!

Story
2023 ADOPTION SPECIAL $175 Barley is a 6.5 year old, 60 pound, spayed female Mountain Cur mix that came to shelter as a stray. Her right ear is permanently folded down, due to an old hematoma. But, it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She is a friendly and playful girl, who likes squeaky, plush toys and LOVES a good scratch, especially on the base of her tail. According to her finder, Barley didn’t appear to like other animals, but was comfortable and friendly around young children. Barley is UTD on all her shots & completely vetted. Barley has some separation anxiety, which foster has worked with her on. She is doing amazing. Would love to get her into a foster to adopt home, with someone who is home with her. Story
Are you looking for a dog who will love you endlessly and make you feel special every single day? Rocket is your boy. He is sweet, loving, affectionate, and very attentive to his person. He is also smart, treat-motivated, knows sit, down, paw, and roll-over! Rocket needs a special home though, because he truly is a special boy. Rocket struggles with anxiety, particularly in certain situations, like on walks. He needs a home with specific requirements (like a fenced-in yard), so that his need to be put in those stressful situations is minimized. Rocket is looking for a dog-savvy home in a low-traffic neighborhood so he can relax and be the best dog he can be.
