Story
Finnegan might look like a tough guy, but he's a big softie who just wants to snuggle up with his person! He's the full package - smart, handsome, affectionate, and funny. He's an excellent houseguest - noted to be potty trained and polite, great on leash and in the car. Finnegan is enrolled in APA!'s Total Obedience Program, and has a dedicated trainer working with them on obedience skills. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. Those skills include learning to sit when approached by strangers, calmly walking past another dog, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "Place", which means they will go to a specific place in your home on command. As a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA! staff to continue to build a training relationship with them after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Story
Turkey Meatball is a big, gentle sweetheart who absolutely loves people. His signature move? A slow, full-body “melt” into anyone kind enough to give him attention—on walks, at home, anywhere. It’s as soft and endearing as it sounds. This affectionate boy is convinced he’s a lapdog and will happily stick by your side for cuddles as long as you’ll let him. He can get a little excited when meeting new friends (he just loves people that much!), but he settles quickly into his favorite activity: leaning in close and soaking up all the love. Turkey Meatball already knows some basics like “sit” and “down,” is learning house manners in foster care. He is very food-motivated—so continued training should be a breeze. After a rough start, he’s ready for a home filled with consistency, kindness, and plenty of cozy moments. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will make every day feel a little softer, Turkey Meatball is your guy.

Story
Star Boy brings a sporty, athletic energy to every day, showing off his natural agility whenever he gets the chance to move. He is a truly active companion who completely transforms when he steps out into the open yard, running with a free, energetic stride that shows how much he loves to exercise. When he is having a blast, his tail points straight up like a happy antenna, signaling his pure joy in the moment. His beautiful brindle coat catches the light as he moves, highlighting a lean and athletic build that makes him a natural partner for outdoor adventures. While the busy shelter environment can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming for him, Star Boy finds his confidence through movement and structured activities. He attends playgroups with other dogs, using that social time to channel his focus and burn off energy with his peers. Once he feels secure in his surroundings, his curious nature comes forward, and he enthusiastically accepts treats from his human friends. You might notice he currently has a condition known as a "cherry eye." While it gives him a unique look right now, it is completely harmless, painless, and not life-threatening. Our team already has a medical plan in place to get it surgically repaired; however, because the scheduling might take a little while, he is fully available to transition into a foster home or be pre-adopted while he waits for his procedure. He is a responsive and spirited young dog who thrives on routine, outdoor play, and space to explore, making him a wonderful match for someone looking to share an active lifestyle. Story
Some dogs greet everyone like they've been friends for years. Harley isn't one of those dogs —and that's exactly what makes him special. Harley is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with his people. While he can be nervous around new faces, once you're part of his circle, you'll discover an incredibly sweet, loyal companion with plenty of personality. His foster describes him as very vocal when he's excited, and it's hard not to smile when he shares his opinions about the day's events. At home, Harley is happiest relaxing indoors with the people he loves. He's house trained, crate trained, and enjoys the comfort and security of a predictable routine. He gets along well with other dogs and tends to be more submissive than pushy, but he would likely be just as happy soaking up all the attention as an only dog. Harley is looking for a patient adopter who understands that trust is something that grows over time. The family who gives him that chance will be rewarded with a devoted companion who has so much love to give. **Available for adoption in Austin, TX**

Meet Strawberry and Kiwi, a bonded pair of seniors with hearts as sweet as their names. These best friends are looking for a home where they can stay together and enjoy their golden years side by side. Strawberry and Kiwi are calm, easygoing companions who are a pleasure to walk on leash. While they appreciate a relaxed pace, they still have plenty of spirit and are surprisingly lively for their age. Their favorite way to spend time outside is following their noses, investigating every interesting scent they can find, and, of course, collecting treats from their favorite people. These two are proof that senior dogs have so much love left to give. They bring a gentle presence, loyal companionship, and plenty of charm wherever they go. If you're looking for a pair of sweet, low-key friends who are happiest together, Strawberry and Kiwi are ready to fill your home with love, tail wags, and happy sniffing adventures.

Story
Put Me In, Coach — I’m Ready to Play Ginger Crisp looks like a Catahoula Leopard Dog and Australian Cattle Dog mix, and he’s full of energy, focus, and drive. He’s been part of the big game as a former Austin FC mascot, and now he’s ready for some individual coaching—someone who can guide him, channel his potential, and help him shine. Ginger Crisp isn’t a dog to be taken lightly. He’s smart, aware, and needs structure, clear communication, and consistent guidance to thrive. With the right coach and a solid “playbook,” he shows just how capable and rewarding he can be. He enjoys bonding with his people and responds well to training and purposeful engagement. Cheese is a favorite treat and a great motivator for learning new skills. Ginger Crisp is ready to suit up for his next chapter with a team that understands him, values his drive, and is ready to help him succeed on and off the field.

Story
Bobcat, known as Laika in her current foster home, has been in the same home for the past several years but the health of her owner has taken a turn. Currently in foster in Oklahoma City, she'll be making her way back to Austin soon and would love a home waiting for her! Bobcat has done very well with other dogs. She's been the loving and playful foster sister to over 50 dogs of all ages, sizes and temperamants and would love to meet any future siblings before heading home. She enjoys playing with other dogs and tends to be a “play hard, nap hard” kind of dog. She is fully house trained, crate trained, and has excellent house manners. She hasn’t needed to be crated since she was about 1.5 years old and has had free roam of the house for years without any problems. She can be trusted loose in the home when left alone. She is very treat motivated and completed basic obedience training school. She knows commands such as sit, down, and stay, and generally enjoys learning when food is involved. She also loves playing fetch and is always happy to chase a ball. From her foster: "Honestly, one of the best things about Laika is how affectionate she is. She’s a huge cuddle bug and would happily spend all day curled up. Her favorite place is tucked into a bed, couch, or comfy chair with a blanket wrapped around her." Can you be the waiting home in Austin for Bobcat?
