Story
OTHER PETS: Bertha hasn't shown a whole lot of interest in other dogs during her stay here at TJO.. She would much rather ignore other pups and go off doing her own thing. While Bertha would enjoy being an only dog, we are open to the possibility that she may enjoy living with dog(s) of similar independence. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Bertha is VERY sensitive to heat, and has a history of seizures if her body temp gets too high. Bertha's best fit would be with someone who has experience with caring for a dog with this type of medical need. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Bertha is comfortable with most handling and interacting, but has engaged in some mild resource guarding with high value possessions like bones or jerky while at TJO. She has been happy to trade for treats, but should still be left to enjoy her chosen chew without being bothered. Trading up with high value items will help her learn human presence means good things happen and helps reduce anxiety when it comes to resource-guarding. Minors should be actively supervised to keep everyone safe. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bertha is an independent girl who enjoys relaxing and exploring when it isn't too hot outside. She hasn't been the most enthusiastic about playing, but she always enjoys hanging around and relaxing with her favorite people. (Even if shes too big for your lap she will still attempt it) She does enjoy her time outside, but will often refuse to venture too far if she feels it's too hot. Even though she's quite good at self-regulating, she will still need to be monitored closely to ensure she does not overheat. Mild, appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help fully meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. **Bertha is very sensitive to heat and will need to be supervised outside for short periods at a time** Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned-- neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bertha ages gracefully. [Above Average / Intense]GROOMING: Bertha, like any bulldog, will need her wrinkles cleaned routinely, as neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infection. Bertha may also do well with a professional groomer in order to keep her comfortable and clean. [Routine Cleaning]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Bertha bond with her new owner, build confidence, and learn new skills and fun tricks. [Minimal] August 7, 2026, 9:08 pm

Story
Our Lovable Zena found herself homeless after her owners had a baby and could not handle dog care with a new child. Zena was surrendered directly to our Connecticut Rescue, so she did not have to suffer through a shelter process. Now four years old, Zena is ready to begin her second act in life.  Zena appears shy at first, and had not benefited from much socializing or training In her former home. Some pups serve as placeholders in families until the human baby shows up, and then are cast off to fend for themselves in the rescue process. This sad situation left Zena lacking social skills. Zena needs an extremely dog savvy adopter willing to go slow with her and troubleshoot some stranger danger and touch sensitivity at the vet. Her best fit will be an active adult home, with folks who have rescue dog experience, and who understand that a period of decompression is needed as Zena transitions to a new home.  Zena has done extremely well with her training, and seems to enjoy the process. She now knows most basic commands. We recommend ongoing Obedience work to help her adopter bond, and also to provide mental and physical stimulation. Besides training exercises, Zena needs a few brisk leash walks daily to work out her yayas.  We suspected Zena to be a mix of Beagle and Pug, but when curiosity demanded that we run her DNA, we discovered that somebody had crossed her great grandparents with Rottweiler. Zena is a stout, medium sized dog at a lean weight of 30 pounds. She could easily gain 5 pounds and still be within normal weight range. The Rottie DNA no doubt is the source of her sass! Zena's house manners are good. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health. Zena has been spayed and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.  If you are interested in Zena, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Story
We think Meredith is a Puggle mixed with an adorable bully breed. Basically… the recipe for maximum cuteness and fun. ‍ This adorable tiny low riding gal has the thick little trunk, a snooshy wrinkly face, and the cutest stubby legs. She’s truly one of those dogs that makes everyone stop and say “oh my gosh she’s so cute.”   Meredith is crate trained and absolutely loves other dogs. She’s active, busy, and FULL of personality and charm, so she’s looking for a home that can match her fun, boisterous energy. She would thrive with people who enjoy an active pup and maybe even another dog to play with. If you’re looking for a ridiculously cute, happy, upbeat and playful little companion, Meredith might be your girl. @1-3 yo//only 25 lbs crate trained and housebroken good on leash & knows basic commands active and upbeat personality altered, vaccinated & microchipped  fostered in Massachusetts  please remember we are all volunteers &  incomplete applications will not be processed Apply to FOSTER or ADOPT today & get approved to bring a dog home.
