At 10 years old, this handsome Pug is a seasoned gentleman who has perfected the art of enjoying the good life sunshine, soft beds, tasty treats, cozy cuddles, and following his favorite people wherever they go. Uncle Cornelius came to us from a shelter in South Carolina, and while we don't know everything about his life before arriving, we do know that this sweet boy is ready for the kind of home where he can finally settle in and be someone's cherished companion. Cornelius is dog-friendly and enjoys having canine friends around. He is also a wonderful little shadow when it comes to his people. If you get up, chances are Cornelius will be right behind you. Going into another room? He's coming too. Heading to bed? Naturally, he believes he has been invited. He loves being close to his humans and is happiest when he knows his people are nearby. And when bedtime rolls around, Cornelius is especially happy to cuddle up in bed. There is nothing quite like having a sweet senior Pug snuggled beside you, and Cornelius is more than willing to take on that important responsibility. He has a gentle, affectionate side that makes it very easy to fall in love with him. Of course, Uncle Cornelius has a few special needs that his forever family will need to understand. He has had one eye removed and is visually impaired in his remaining eye. He requires daily moisture drops to keep his eye comfortable. Despite his limited vision, Cornelius gets around remarkably well. He occasionally bumps into things, but he doesn't let his vision challenges stop him from enjoying life or following his people around. Cornelius also has an abnormal gait. He has been evaluated, and X-rays did not show any acute injuries. He does have some arthritis, so his future family will need to be mindful that this older gentleman may move a little differently and may appreciate a comfortable, easygoing lifestyle. We think Cornelius would much rather spend his golden years enjoying gentle adventures, sunny spots, cozy naps, and plenty of love than worrying about whether he gets anywhere in a hurry. One thing that Cornelius is always able to find his way toward, however, is a treat. This boy LOVES his snacks! We suspect treats may be one of the many important navigational tools in Uncle Cornelius's life. A tasty reward, a little praise, and a whole lot of affection go a long way with this sweet Pug. When he isn't following his people or investigating the possibility of a snack, Cornelius is perfectly content to sunbathe in the yard. He loves soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the simple pleasures of being outside. Once he's had enough fresh air, he's ready to head back inside and find his favorite spot on the couch for a well-deserved nap. Cornelius is also doing well with his house and crate training and continues to settle beautifully into his routine. He may need a little extra patience and consideration because of his age, arthritis, and vision impairment, but he has shown us that he is more than capable of enjoying life and being a wonderful companion. What Uncle Cornelius lacks in perfect eyesight, he more than makes up for with his incredible ability to find the people he loves. He may occasionally bump into the furniture, but somehow he always seems to find his way to a lap, a couch, a cozy bed, or the person carrying the treats. This sweet senior doesn't need a perfect life. He just needs a safe one. He needs someone who will keep up with his eye drops, respect his physical limitations, give him comfortable places to rest, and understand that his slower pace and quirky gait are simply part of what makes him Uncle Cornelius. In return, he promises to be your devoted little shadow, your bedtime cuddle buddy, your treat enthusiast, and your loyal companion. He will follow you anywhere and with a loving family beside him, we hope Uncle Cornelius gets to spend his golden years going somewhere very special: home.
