Story
My story is one that started with a shelter number and a death sentence that loomed very close in Eastern Tennessee. My former name was AC23390, but by the hand of God, I was taken from that shelter and now I am Neeka.  In August 2022 I was found by animal control and brought to their tiny sad facility. I weighed only 50 pounds (picture is included).  They posted my picture hoping my owners would come forward and take me home but no one showed up and it was for the best.  I was starved already and they obviously didn’t take good care of me. Things were looking grim but on my last day, an older couple came to see me and they took me home.  They treated me like a Princess and I gained weight and felt their love.  I was so grateful and soon my energetic nature started to emerge and my true breed tendencies demanded that they play with me and help me exercise and get my inner energy out.  But they are really too old and too tired to play with me and they think I need a “younger” couple and family to give me the life that I need.  I have learned to live with cats and I have stopped chasing them for sport since they slapped me in the face a few times.  I just got bored and wanted some fun!   What I really need is someone to give me structure and boundaries and to work with me on being content to be crated when people leave and to have someone that is my pack leader and guide.  I need the reassurance that I have a strong owner who knows exactly what I need every day.  I would love to go for long walks, hikes, jogs or anything active and fun.  A fenced yard is needed and I need patience to be imperfect and to help me become more perfect.  I need to work with meeting dogs and not being intimidated by them.   No one has really gotten me out and about in life and I have the intelligence and desire to really learn how to be OK in this crazy world.  I promise to love you, to adore you and to obediently be your best friend and to learn.  I am now 65 pounds and not starving for food, but I am starving for love and guidance.  Can you help me with that?  Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested learning more. PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJune 1, 2023, 10:46 pm

Story
Name: Madeline Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 2 years old Best Guess for Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback/Shepherd Mix Weight: About 70 lbs Good With: Dogs, cats and people - we aren’t sure how she does with kids yet, but happy to test her out! Because Madeline is shy, she must go to a home with a resident dog to help her continue to build her confidence. About Madeline: Madeline came to us all the way from South Korea, where she was rescued from a meat farm. Madeline is acclimating well to living in the DC area. She is working on gaining confidence and learning how to be a dog! Madeline is doing well in her foster home! She’s made a lot of progress in the house gaining confidence. She likes being around her fosters and playing with their resident dog. She is completely potty trained. She has done a great job in her crate. As a rule she’s a very laid back dog. She’s energetic on walks but settles easily whenever we’re done. She’s good on her leash, but she can get startled by people, dogs, and loud noises we encounter on walks sometimes. She lives happily with other dogs in the home and is currently living in a home with several cats and does great. Overall, she’s progressing really well, but she’s still clearly working through some trauma from her past life. We ask that she goes to a house with another dog and a person who’s patient and willing to work with her to get her out of her shell. If you think that Madeline might be your perfect match, apply today!       June 1, 2023, 10:25 pm

They say I might be part kangaroo because of my mad jumping skills! Even better, if I'm bored, I'll just play fetch with myself because I know how to toss the ball across the room. Never met a Mickey D's hamburger I didn't love and my local Starbucks crew always has my pup cup ready. I usually give them a smile (and a tip) as a thank you! The wind in my hair is my favorite sensation and love to stick my head out the window or sunroof! WEEEE!!! Other cars often laugh at me but that's fine with me cuz smilin is my favorite! I have personality in leaps and bounds and will give you an "ARRRRRR as a reminder if you're late for my walk, especially when Cooper, my 5lb best friend is out in the hood. My favorite activity is being right next to YOU and if we're snuggling, I'm even happier. What can I say? I'm codependent, a serial monogamist and was born during COVID. Those COVID days were my favorite and I learned quickly to be with my people 24/7! Ahhh, the bliss! Things took an ugly turn for me when my mom went back to work. I was put in a weird cage that felt like a prison for 8 hours a day and that just sent me into full panic attack mode! It was torture being alone and I developed separation anxiety. It was so stressful that my mom would come home to find me in a puddle of my own drool and with some ouchies on my face and paws from trying to bust out of that hellhole crate!! She said my codependency was too much for her and sent me to the shelter where I almost lost my mind. Thankfully, Homeward Trails rescued me and I've been with my foster mom waiting for my forever home ever since. My tail wags nonstop and I NEVER met a human or animal I didn't love. My favorite pose is downward dog (in combo with a tail wag) but people look at me funny when I hold my pose too long! Namaste, everyone! Between you and me, I'm super nosy and like to peek around corners to see what the neighbors are up to! I've been told that if I was human, I would be a major gossiper. The outdoors is my happy place and I love long walks in the woods or trails and runs with my foster mom. My nose is on hound high alert and I LOVE using it to smell EVERYTHING around me. Indeed, I do often stop to smell the flowers (no joke, just check out my pics) but don't worry, I know what "keep it movin' means and will do just that. If you try to race me, I will beat you every time. These long legs were made for running! It's on the trails that I most hear people tell my mom, What a beautiful dog!. I am affectionate, potty-trained, smart as a whip, kid approved, walk well on a leash, can take pills like a champ and will let you cut my toenails for treats. The stinkier the better! My sit and down commands are a piece of cake. I crack myself up when I jump like a rabbit because everyone is so surprised at how high I can get. I'm a talker and my different moans and barks makes everyone giggle. Good thing my foster mom understands what they mean! And zoom co-workers often chat me to say, "Hi Luther! when they hear me talk. My friends tell me I'm funny, easy to love and people often comment on my good looks. I mean... LOOK. AT. MY. FACE. I love to jam out with my foster mom while we ride in the car. If you're in Fairfax City, perhaps you've seen me drive by? What do I need you ask? My ideal home would be with a very active family that appreciates all my special qualities with a fenced in yard where I could take myself for a run if you're too busy working. I also really need a dog brother or sister to play with and to help me feel more stable and secure in my new home. I'm also a talker so a SFH would be best. I'd love a boy/girl of my own and when it snows, I'll run next to their sled to make sure they're safe! Most of all, I need someone who won't leave me alone often and who will help me with my separation anxiety, especially in the beginning as I adjust to a new space and smells and noises. These days, I have the help of a magic pill to help with my separation anxiety. I just don't want to be away from the people I love!! My foster mom says no one is perfect but I'm as close to perfect as they come. I promise if you give me the time and space to get settled, I'll show you what a good boy I can be. I'm a lover to my core and the world just fascinates me! Am I meant to join your family? CAN. NOT. WAIT. TO. MEET. YOU. I'm part of the REWARDS program and my adoption fee is sponsored! The adoption fee for this dog is $0. This fee includes spay/neuter and microchip. Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Kambria is a rambunctious almost 1 year old female, mixed breed (she appears to have Rhodesian Ridgeback traits) dog. Kambria is a smaller dog, with super puppy energy! She needs lots of room to run and play. Kambria is still working on not jumping on people, and learning to walk on a leash. She will need someone who is calm and patient with her while she is still learning. She is good with other dogs! She may still be a little too boisterous for smaller children, so she would do better with kids who are older (5+). She will excel in an active home with other dogs. Kambria is heartworm negative, and will be up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Kambria needs a family that will teach her the good life and give her all the wonderful things a dog deserves! We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Abigail was picked up as a stray and we were all surprised when no one claimed her during her 10 day stray hold. It was hard to believe anyone would dump her off but apparently that was her story. She is sweet, loving and full of personality! Abigail is spayed, HW tested negative, UTD on all age appropriate vaccines and microchipped. We have aged her at just one year and she still acts like a puppy. We are only guessing about her breed mix but she has a distinct ridge down her back and she looks like a mini ridgeback. We feel like Abigail would love a fairly active family with older children and a fenced yard to run and play in. She is fine with smaller dogs that do not jump on her at first. We have not had her around cats but probably best a no cat home. She does like to jump and will need some training but she is a lover! The ideal home for Abigail would be an only pet home with a young couple/person that loves to hike or go on long walks. She has a lot of energy and would not do well in a low activity home. If you would like to give this baby girl her forever home, please email omlc7@hotmail.com and we will send you our info and application.
