Story
Meet Ida!This 86lb, 4-year-old, Rottweiler came to the shelter as a stray and is a quiet, independent girl who`s happy doing her own thing. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys getting out for strolls, taking in the world at her own pace. When it comes to other dogs, Ida doesn`t seem to mind them much—she mostly ignores them and prefers to focus on herself. She`s not overly needy and is content hanging out nearby without constantly seeking attention. One of Ida`s favorite things in life is treats, especially pupperoni! If you`re looking to win her over, snacks are definitely the way to her heart. Toys don`t hold her interest for long; she`ll pick one up for a moment and then move on to something else.Ida may have some hearing loss, so she`ll likely appreciate a patient adopter who understands her unique needs. Her calm, easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion for someone looking for a low-key friend who enjoys the simple things in life.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please use the link below to fill out the application. Once we receive that back, then we can schedule you a meeting with the animal you are interested in.https://form.jotform.com/261544309434052

Story
Nabit is a dog who seems to understand the value of a good snack and a kind word. When she arrived at the shelter, staff found her to be well behaved and easy to handle, and they quickly learned that treats are a great way to win her over. Beneath her sturdy exterior is a dog who enjoys human companionship and settles in nicely once she feels comfortable. She appears to appreciate having people around and has shown that she can relax and enjoy the simple things in life. Nabit is looking for a home that understands her and sets her up for success. She has lived peacefully with a small dog and has been described as friendly and affectionate with her people. She is treat-motivated, which can make training and bonding both rewarding and fun. Because of her history, Nabit will need a home without cats or other small animals. For the right adopter, she offers the opportunity to welcome home a loyal companion who enjoys attention, appreciates a good treat, and is ready to build a strong connection with her new family. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Luke is part of a litter of puppies that was abandoned at 1 day old. He and his siblings were bottle-fed. He has been around dogs, cats, and kids. He is a DNA-tested Rottweiler, Husky, and Great Pyrenees - he is going to be a BIG dog! At 8 weeks old he is 10 lbs. He has received his first parvo vaccine and has been dewormed. Among his siblings, he is more of a follower and looks to others for guidance. He is more relaxed than his siblings, but still has a lot of puppy energy! Luke is available for foster-to-adopt. The adoption will not be considered complete until he is neutered. SAR will pay for the remainder of his vetting (2 rounds of vaccines, neuter, and microchip) if completed at our vet. If you would like to use your vet, SAR will reimburse you the amount that SAR would have paid for each service. Delayed neuter is an option, which can be discussed in greater detail with an approved applicant.

Story
Hi, I’m Kaiser I’m a big puppy with an even bigger personality! I’ve got tons of energy and love to share, so if you’re looking for a fun, playful companion, I’m your guy. I’m super friendly and always excited to meet new people—honestly, I think everyone is my best friend. I’d love a home where I can run around, play, and keep busy. Whether it’s going on adventures or just having a good time together, I’m always ready to go. If you’ve got the energy and the love, I promise I’ll match it (and then some)!

Story
Meet Garry!Garry is a 58lb, 5-year-old, Boxer who came to us as a stray and is still figuring out shelter life at his own pace. He`s an independent guy who tends to prefer doing his own thing and isn`t one to demand attention. While he`s not particularly interested in toys or treats, he does seem to appreciate gentle affection when it`s offered. In the play yard, Garry doesn`t seem to mind being around other dogs and is content to coexist with them. The shelter environment can be a little overwhelming for him, and he can get nervous when it`s time to head back to his kennel.Garry is also cryptorchid, meaning one or both of his testicles have not descended as they should. Because of this, he will most likely require a surgical procedure beyond a routine neuter. Our staff can provide more information about his medical needs and what to expect.Garry is looking for a patient home that will give him the time and space he needs to build confidence and settle in. If you`re searching for a quiet companion who enjoys affection on his own terms, Garry may be the perfect match for you.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. Story
Meet Irwin ??A 58lb, 1-year-old, American Staffordshire Terrier who was found wandering alone in a park. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was terrified and nervous, taking everything in. The kennel environment felt overwhelming for him at first, and he needed a little time to feel safe. But once Irwin got out for some fresh air and one-on-one attention, his true personality began to shine. With patience and kindness, he blossomed into the sweetest boy. Away from the noise, Irwin shows just how lovely he really is — affectionate, eager for reassurance, and happy to be by your side.Irwin is a high-energy pup who loves to play and would thrive with an active family ready for adventures, games, and plenty of exercise. He seems to do well around the other dogs at the shelter, making him a great candidate for a home with a playful canine companion. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!

Story
Meet Pigeon! This 56lb, 6-year-old, Lab Retriever mix is looking for a home that understands her unique personality and will help her thrive. She was previously adopted but was returned to the shelter because she did not get along with the resident dog. Because of this, Pigeon is considered dog selective and would need careful introductions to any canine companions, or she may do best as the only dog in the home.According to her previous owner, Pigeon is both house-trained and crate-trained, making her an easy addition to a family ready to welcome her. She also lived with a cat and reportedly paid little attention to them.Pigeon has a medium to high energy level and enjoys staying active, whether that`s through walks, playtime, or other fun adventures with her people. She would do best in a home with adults and older children who can understand and respect her boundaries and give her the space she needs to feel comfortable and secure. If you`re looking for a loyal companion with plenty of personality and energy to share, Pigeon may be the perfect match. With the right home and understanding family, she`s ready to spread her wings and find her forever home.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only.
