Welcome Honey to CCPAL foster Program. Honey is a 3 year old Boxer mixed dog. She is potty trained. We think Honey survived the flood in Kerrville. A good samaritan has taken her in and is giving her good nutrition and love until we find her forever home. She was really scratched up and had a wound on her front left leg. She will be spayed soon and she is going to the vet again for a follow up on her leg. Our guess is it may have gotten broken and healed back on it’s own due to what she has gone through. She is good on a leash, very loving and bonds deeply. She lives with 5 cats right now but she is much too interested and we feel her best home would be without cats. She loves all people and no one is a stranger. She is good with dogs her size and is an energetic girl. Her best home would be with an active and ourdoorsy family that wants a great companion to join them in their outdoor fun. She is looking wonderful and filling out nicely in her new foster home. She lost some muscle around her bum area due to the length of time she was without food. Despite this, she would make an amazing family pet. She would love to be the only dog and be the center of her families attention. She weighs about 40 pounds and is a taller dog but medium weight. She is great in a car and would make a great dog in settings where lots of people are around. She is lower in shedding. She will be getting spayed soon and ready for her forever home. I am an unpredictable gal with a high prey drive so cats are not a good fit for me; I’m reactive when it comes to other dogs or unknown/sudden sounds like bikes whizzing by etc.; and I’m a pack follower so if there’s a fight, I may feel compelled to join the chaos. That said, I went to a training facility where there were many other dogs and I did great so I think with time, patience, and continued training I may overcome these ‘quirks’ of mine!! Welcome Salem to CCPAL Rescue. Salem is a 4-year old Rottie/Boxer mix that weighs about 65 pounds. She is beautiful gun metal grey with a brownish tint. She bonds very deeply like the Rottie to her person. She gets along with other dogs but she wants to be the only one for her particular person. She is on the quiet side as far as barking goes. She is lower on the shedding scale and has a nice soft coat. She has an adorable underbite. I think she would like to be a home body type dog and be around her person a lot. She would love her human to work from home or only work some days. She kennels up just by asking her to kennel up. She is very smart and takes direction well. She is a little shy in new settings and not all that interested in meeting new people. If you like the Rottie personality or the Dachshund personality you will like this dog. At 70+ pounds, he’s a large boy with a big heart and a wonderfully mellow temperament. He loves everyone he meets and is fantastic with other dogs—so much so that the Arkansas shelter used him as their “tester dog” because of his steady, friendly nature. He’s neutered, fully potty trained, and crate trained—as long as it’s a wire crate. (He’s a bit of a Houdini with plastic ones!) When he’s tired, he’ll put himself to bed and snooze peacefully. Argo loves playing fetch, chasing his foster brother around the yard, and enjoying toys and walks. He’s gentle, intelligent, eager to please, and knows several commands including sit, come, shake, and kennel. Argo would love with a fenced yard, where he can safely enjoy outdoor playtime. He’s slightly active with a moderate energy level—happy to romp and play, but also content to relax and be a lap‑leaning companion. He takes treats very gently and is a quiet dog who rarely barks. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Gherkin is a lovable Bulldog with a sweet, goofy personality and a heart full of love for his people. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he’s incredibly affectionate and happiest snuggled up close with his family. He especially loves kids and would be thrilled to have a home where he can soak up attention, cuddles, and plenty of couch time. Like many sensitive dogs, Gherkin can take a little time to trust new people, especially men, but patience and kindness go a long way with him. Once you earn his trust, you’ll discover a playful, loyal companion who loves being part of the fun. Gherkin is a big fan of toys, chewing sessions, and fetch, and he is highly food motivated — if snacks are involved, he’s interested. He’s intelligent, eager to please, and knows commands including sit, come, quiet, go potty, and leave it. He also rides well in the car, making him an easy companion for adventures or errands. He is leash trained and crate trained, though he may need a little time to fully settle and relax in his crate while he continues building confidence with it. Gherkin also has allergies that are managed with a special diet, and he is sight impaired after having one eye removed, but he navigates life beautifully and doesn’t let it slow him down. One thing that makes Gherkin especially happy is having canine companionship. He absolutely requires another dog in his home and thrives with dog friends of all sizes. He plays wonderfully with both the resident bully breed and a 150-pound Bernese Mountain Dog in his foster home and has done great with all dog-friendly dogs he’s met. Gherkin is the kind of dog who will make you laugh, steal your spot on the couch, and completely win you over with his squishy face and loving personality. He’s looking for a patient, affectionate home with another playful pup and people who will adore him exactly as he is. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  Bulldogs, pugs, and Boston terriers, Brussels Griffons, Pekingese and others are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure this breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average brachycephalic breed owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs. In addition to other surgeries, this dog may have had surgery on their nares and soft palate to improve the quality of their breathing.  This will be partially reflected within her adoption fee. These breeds are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for these breeds usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires a separate application and an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.
