Story
Sir Charles is a 12-14 year old, 17 pound Shih Tzu blend who joined us recently from a county facility. This sweet guy, with the adorable head tilt is a big fan of squeaky toys. He is easy to handle, and has excellent leash manners. He knows basic commands, such as "sit," but he would really rather beg for treats! He is a perfect gentleman, when accepting his treats. This good lookin' kid is living with one of our amazing foster homes, while he waits for his forever home (we suspect he won't be waiting long!), and will be available at the adoption center on Saturdays from 10am-4pm, or you may email Debbie@AzFriends.org for a weekday meeting. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the dog. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Story
Willow is 12 years old and got her as a puppy. She is a Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apo mix. She weighs 13 lbs and very smart and well-behaved. She only barks when someone comes to the door, otherwise never barks at anyone on walks or other dogs. She likes other dogs--large or small, but would do best at this point being around other older dogs or dogs that are more mellow--she still has energy, but does not like to play as much as she once did. She loves walks and cuddling---loves attention and is a lap dog, so best with someone that is around quite a bit and that can give her attention--she would be great with a senior adult. She has been a wonderful pet and trying to rehome her because I travel a lot for work and pleasure and never home--and when I am in town, I am always out and about and rarely home, so I feel bad that she does not getting the attention she needs and would love to find her a good home with someone that wants a good companion dog. She is in good health too.

Story
A lady we know bought Coco off of the owner who didn't have time for him, and gave him a grooming . He is a sweet guy, but needs a meet and greet with other dogs, as he doesn't get along with all of her dogs. It might also be the other dog's problem, I'm not sure.

Story
Clyde is a sweet 10 year old Shih Tzu.boy who lost his home because after having him 10 years, his owners decided he is not good around their kids. He did not deserve to be given up on just because he is aging. Additionally they allowed him to become very overweight which could definitely contribute to his sometimes grumpy mood. We have not observed any bad behavior here at the rescue. He is really a nice dog, easy to have around and not at all demanding. He is in good health, fully vetted and ready for a new home and a Weight Watchers membership. It is imperative that his new Adopter keeps him on a diet to help him reduce his weight. He's clearly not comfortable how he is. He would love the yard to run around in as well as to bask in the sun. He may need some forced walking to help with retrieving the waistline he once enjoyed. according to his former owners, Clyde is housetrained. Clyde is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Clydes's Adoption fee is $275 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. All dogs also leave with a new collar and or harness and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble that is being fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also allow us the ability to put funds towards the next homeless or unwanted dog in need of rescue! Story
Lulu is a cute 6 year old Shih Tzu girl who is laid back and loving.. She is confident and seems friendly with all people she has met. She gets along fairly well with the dogs at the rescue but we feel she would do best as an only dog in an adult home. She walks well on a leash and does well in the car. She is gold and white and weighs approximately 18 lbs but is on the heavy side and could afford to lose a few pounds. Lulu has occasional accidents in the house so she will need close observation and some reinforcement with her training. She loves to play with toys and chew on her bones and treats. Lulu is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Lulu's adoption fee is $375 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee.
