Story
Ozzy came to us from CA where he was at risk due to some pretty typical old man issues. He has really blossomed in his foster home and is now feeling and looking great. He is around 11 years old and about 13 lbs and is a really nice boy. He got a dental when he was neutered and his bloodwork came back with no concerns. Ozzy is good about going potty outside with regular opportunities. He loves hanging out in the yard when the weather is nice and loves the other dogs he lives with once he gets to know them (even tries to play!!). He does well on a leash and walks right by other dogs no fuss or barking. He is fine in a crate though has good house manners. Because he loves his yard time he would likely be best in a home with at least a small fenced yard. Ozzy was initially very standoffish but soon warms up and starts connecting. His level of intimacy and preference for pets and cuddles is more akin to a cats though; he will come up and solicit pets when he is in the mood but often chooses a few feet of distance. If you ever wanted a cat in dog form or a dog that isn't 'too needy' this one is the right pick for you!! Ozzy does prefer females or men that are not too big and imposing, and his innate skittishness and appreciation of space means kids would not be a good match. Ozzy loves to nap and food is his love language. Ozzy will take time a patience to adapt to a new home Ozzy does have some resource guarding with food so just needs to be fed alone. Story
Wrigley is an adorable five-year-old male Shih Tzu. He is very loyal and devoted to his person. He is generally well behaved, but would do best with either no other dogs or possibly a female dog. He gets a little bit possessive sometimes as he is very devoted to his master. He is very obedient and knows basic command commands. He does need an owner with some dog experience and a fairly firm hand. He will try to take advantage in some situations. Mainly with being protective of his owner, when other people come into the house. He is fairly well house trained, but will need a little tuning up. He is a personal favorite of mine, the rescue owner. Wrigley is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Wrigley’s adoption fee is $400 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. All dogs also leave with a new collar and or harness and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble that is being fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also allow us the ability to put funds towards the next homeless or unwanted dog in need of rescue! If you would like to be considered to for this adoption or any of our amazing rescues, please fill out the application with the help of this link. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AZST/Dog. We review each application carefully. Please understand that sometimes we get numerous applications for specific dogs and as a volunteer-based rescue, we do not always have the time to respond to each one. We do our best to choose the most suitable home for each dog based on their specific personality and needs. Please note you MAY NOT be contacted for up to 10 days to schedule a meet and greet if your family is the most suitable for this rescue dog. Regrettably, we do not have the manpower currently to contact all applicants. We keep ALL applications in our database so please feel free to contact us when you see another dog of interest. We appreciate all applicants and do our best to pair every dog and family for a successful and happy life.

Story
Henry is an adorable and handsome Grey and white Shih Tzu boy who was found wandering on the streets of Phoenix and had been attacked by another dog or possibly a coyote. His severe matting may have saved his life as he had 3-4 fairly serious puncture wounds but they could have been so much worse if the severe mats had not prevented teeth from penetrating his coat in most areas. Henry avoids confrontation with other dogs when he can and wants to lead a peaceful life. He loves toys and play and seems to get along with all people. He is untested with small children. He has a lovely (mellow) Shih Tzu temperament that we all know and love. His dew claws have been removed which makes me think he may have originated from a pet store but he was not microchipped. Wherever he came from he’s a true gem. He sleeps on a soft office chair next to my bed at night. He may prefer to sleep on the bed, but my dogs do not want to allow him to and he does not want to push it. He will make a lovely pet for almost any family. He’s approximately four years old and weighs about 14 pounds. Like many of our rescue dogs, we are not sure how well housetrained Henry is. But with gentle persuasion, some consistency, structure and praise he should be easy to train. Henry is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Henry’s adoption fee is $400 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee.
