Sir Charles is a 12-14 year old, 17 pound Shih Tzu blend who joined us recently from a county facility. This sweet guy, with the adorable head tilt is a big fan of squeaky toys. He is easy to handle, and has excellent leash manners. He knows basic commands, such as "sit," but he would really rather beg for treats! He is a perfect gentleman, when accepting his treats. This good lookin' kid is living with one of our amazing foster homes, while he waits for his forever home (we suspect he won't be waiting long!), and will be available at the adoption center on Saturdays from 10am-4pm, or you may email Debbie@AzFriends.org for a weekday meeting.No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Willow is 12 years old and got her as a puppy. She is a Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apo mix. She weighs 13 lbs and very smart and well-behaved. She only barks when someone comes to the door, otherwise never barks at anyone on walks or other dogs. She likes other dogs--large or small, but would do best at this point being around other older dogs or dogs that are more mellow--she still has energy, but does not like to play as much as she once did. She loves walks and cuddling---loves attention and is a lap dog, so best with someone that is around quite a bit and that can give her attention--she would be great with a senior adult. She has been a wonderful pet and trying to rehome her because I travel a lot for work and pleasure and never home--and when I am in town, I am always out and about and rarely home, so I feel bad that she does not getting the attention she needs and would love to find her a good home with someone that wants a good companion dog. She is in good health too.

He came to the rescue when his owner was unable to care for him. He will do best with owners who understand the Lhasa “personality” which is a dog that is very strong-willed and it’s been said that “when a Lhasa Apso looks in the mirror, he sees a lion”. Leo will be a wonderful and loyal companion IF his new owners can establish a relationship of mutual respect – i.e. admiring his independent character while consistently enforcing your rules so that he respects you as well. His new owners will require patience, as it will take a while (maybe weeks) for him to get used to a new environment and once he does, he will be very loyal. Leo wants love and attention but is not usually a cuddler. His "M.O." is fairly vocal and often uses "growling" not as a warning/don't touch me, but rather as an expression of his attitude. He has never bitten his previous owner or current foster, but the growling-type vocalization needs to be understood. He loves walks, running around in the backyard and he loves to sleep with his human. If his humans are strong leaders and exert matching energy (not overpowering or forceful behavior) he responds well. He will do best in a home with just his humans or possibly another submissive (but not younger) dog. He will not likely get along with young children and would do best in a home with only adults. Arthur and his brothers, sisters, mom and dad were left behind when their former owner moved away…..just left these poor guys. Luckily a neighbor heard puppies crying and went next door to inspect and then called us.
