Story
Ari is being fostered in PA. 5-12-2025 Ari did very well with her dental and lumpectomy. She had 12 teeth removed and her mass was benign. An update on her personality and potty skills: Ari is very predictable with her potty habits and only goes about 3 times a day. She sleeps completely through the night, eats her breakfast and then does her business so she can easily be taken outside to eliminate before her breakfast at lunch and then around her dinner time. If she does get up in the middle of her naps or at night, she will eliminate on a potty pad if it’s placed right by her bed. She adores lying beside her foster mom on the sofa and will nudge her hand for pets. She has yet to make a peep in her foster home. Ari is also has the softest fur ever! Little Ari is guessed to be about 12 years old and appears to be a shih tzu mix. She is a quiet, gentle, passive, loveable girl who loves her meals and can sleep like no other! She gets along well with other dogs, cats, and people of all ages. She simply ignores other dogs and cats in her foster home and needs to be in a home with gentle pets and children because it does not appear like she will defend or stick up for herself. She is just as happy to snuggle up on the sofa as she is to find her bed for the day on the floor. She seems to enjoy sniffing all she can when she’s outside but may not make the best walk buddy, as she’d rather meander and smell things. She rides well in the car and tolerates her foster mom’s kisses very well. Ari is completely blind since she has no eyes and her hearing is poor. Her foster mom keeps a potty pad close to her bed so when she gets up from her nap, she has it to potty on when her mom is working. She will not indicate a need to go out to potty. She will need to be carried outside but does fine exploring once she’s out. She cannot go up or down stairs by herself. She will have a dental and a lumpectomy of a non-cancerous mass on her cheek on May 9th and will be ready to find her forever home shortly after. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
About Me: Name: Rexie Breed (or best guess): Shih Tzu mix Approximate Age: 3 years Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 14 lb Adoption Fee: $400 ($450 - $50 sponsored) Requirements: another small dog, fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: puppy mill surrender Profile:   Rexie came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  She is a very shy girl and will need time and patience to understand and enjoy human companionship.  She is happy when she is in her kennel run with another dog, but very unsure of human touch.  She does need to have another dog in her new home to make her comfortable.  A secure fence will be needed as well.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $450 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS March 13, 2025, 8:25 pm

Story
Meet Alex and Abbey – A Bonded Pair Looking for Love Alex and Abbey are an inseparable duo searching for their forever home! Abbey is a small mixed breed, possibly with some Shih Tzu or Poodle in the mix. This middle-aged lady may take about 30 minutes to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she’s all about high fives, kisses, and endless cuddles. Abbey is highly motivated by love and is always eager to please. She’s perfectly content whether she’s playing outside, perched on the back of a couch like a cat, or snuggling in bed all day long. Adaptable and quick to learn new routines, Abbey will thrive in a home with older kids due to her petite size. Abbey gets along well with dogs, cats, and people of all ages. She’s fearless in her role as your “almost toothless” protector, although she may bark to let you know she’s on duty. With patience and extra love, Abbey will blossom into your most devoted companion, her button eyes melting your heart every time you look her way. She has so much life and love to share! Alex, a petite Chihuahua mix, may be small, but he’s got big dog energy! If you love the spunky, spirited personality of Chihuahuas, Alex will keep you laughing every day. Like Abbey, he’s middle-aged and takes some time to decompress in a new environment. Once he’s comfortable, he’s a social butterfly who thrives on affection and loves to zip around the yard, play with dogs and cats, and, of course, enjoy his treats. Alex is mostly potty trained and learns routines quickly. He adores snuggling in bed and is fiercely loyal, despite only having two teeth left after a recent dental. Watching Alex grow more confident and affectionate every day is one of the most rewarding things, and he deserves a home where he can continue to flourish. Both Alex and Abbey are fully vetted, and they recently had dental work to ensure their mouths are in tip-top shape. If you’re ready to open your heart to this special pair, Alex and Abbey are waiting to fill your home with love and laughter! Their adoption fee is $650 cash or check and $660 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes s age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Josie is an absolutely adorable 2-year-old Shih Tzu mix with a personality as unique as her look! With her soft white coat and cute black spots, she’s basically the world’s tiniest cow—tipping the scales at just 7 pounds! This sweet girl is the definition of an old soul in a young dog’s body. She loves to sunbathe, lounge around like a tiny queen, and take slow, sniffy strolls to soak in the world around her. Josie is a bit shy when meeting new people and prefers to keep all four paws on the ground (she’s not a big fan of being picked up), but once she trusts you, she’ll happily accept gentle scritches. Her signature look? A perpetually adorable tongue hanging out! She’s searching for a calm, patient family who will respect her boundaries and let her blossom at her own pace. Because of her gentle nature, she’d do best in a home with kids 12 and up. If you’ve got cheese or jerky treats, Josie will be your best friend in no time! Stop in and meet Josie in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Story
Tobey has now been living with his foster family for over three months. Although he had a rough beginning, he has now settled in and has become the most loving member of the family. When he arrived, he was nervous around his foster dad. Over time, his foster dad worked to earn Tobey's trust and it paid off! Strict boundaries were set, and Tobey's foster dad took over feedings and spent more time with him. This allowed him to establish himself as the pack leader and for Tobey to learn his role within the family unit.Tobey understands the house rules and knows where he stands in the pack, and these clear boundaries helped his confidence so much within the house. Now he is all cuddles and kisses, and he is the first one to greet his foster family when they arrive. He is always on the lookout for a lap to lay on and gives the best hugs! He plays well with toys and the other dogs in the house.Tobey can be a little protective when new people come to the house, and his foster mom uses training tools to ensure that the guests feel welcome and to ensure that Tobey doesn't feel like he needs to protect them. Tobey is a GREAT dog - so cuddly and sweet... and he also needs an experienced owner who will continue the training established and keep boundaries in place for Tobey to be the goodest boy that he is in his foster home.He would do best in a quiest home without young children. If you're looking for a sweet, cuddly dog who will blossom in a structured environment, Tobey Maguire could be the perfect fit for you!
