Story
Meet Candy!
Candy is an 11-pound Shih Tzu mix estimated to be between 8 and 10 years old—and true to her name, she is an incredibly sweet girl.
Candy was found in Detroit by Detroit Pit Crew in heartbreaking condition. Her fur was severely matted, she was covered in fleas, and she had significant hair loss. Despite everything she had endured, her spirits remained strong. Candy’s determination and will to live were clear from the very beginning, and she has continued to show everyone just how resilient she is.
Candy does well with other dogs and has shown no concerns around cats. Because she is an older, petite lady, a home with older, dog-savvy children would be the best fit. She has a good understanding of house manners, is crate trained, and rides well in the car.
During her veterinary evaluation, Candy was found to have a low-grade heart murmur. Fortunately, it does not slow her down and does not require treatment. She has completed comprehensive bloodwork and is otherwise healthy and happy. Candy is also scheduled for a dental cleaning, spay surgery, and removal of a mammary mass as part of her thorough care.
Candy may have had a difficult past, but she refuses to let it define her. This determined little survivor is looking forward to an amazing future with a family who will cherish her and give her the love, comfort, and security she has always deserved.

Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal’s temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different.
While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.
