This boy was found in the most deplorable of conditions, but despite all he's been through, he's a happy, playful little guy who just seems so grateful for his new lease on life. Brucie is very friendly and affectionate, and gets along with people (including kids!), other dogs of all sizes, and indoor cats (he does chase outdoor cats). Brucie can be a bit clingy with his favorite people and will bark at strangers or atypical sounds, but shows no signs of aggression. Puffy just turned 7 years old. We've had him since he was about 3 months old and received him as a gift. He needs a new owner who likes to cuddle and to spend a lot of time with him. He is house trained but does not currently go on leashed walks. He mostly plays in the backyard on his own. He can be protective of vulnerable family members. For example, he acted as a guard dog when our new baby was born but did not feel comfortable when my husband went near the baby. He was also protective of our elderly grandfather and even alerted us when he got out of bed when he wasn't supposed to. We are unfortunately looking for a new home because of the changes in our work/school schedules. Lately, we have not been able to spend enough time with him and give him the attention he deserves.

Three months ago, we adopted our dog - a two-year-old Shih Tzu mix - from a shelter in Manhattan. Unfortunately, we have come to the conclusion that we can no longer care for Nube and give him the life he deserves. He is such a sweet dog at his core, and we are looking for a new owner(s) who has extensive experience with training and the capacity to do so. He's highly reactive to other dogs outside while on leash - it is rooted in frustration, not aggression. He also has separation anxiety when left alone. He is gentle, cuddly, and loves every human he meets, including children. While he has spurts of energy sometimes, he likes to rest throughout the day. Despite his extreme reactivity outside to dogs, we have learned that he is excellent with other friendly dogs inside/while not restrained by a leash. We will only consider applicants who have a lot of previous dog experience. We would love to tell you more about him, especially the kind of support he needs.
