Story
Please read TopHat’s full bio before applying — this exceptionally handsome boy has some lifelong special needs that will require the right home.TopHat was born approximately June 12, 2026, and lost his mother and all of his littermates to severe illness when he was just a tiny baby. He miraculously survived, but his early illness left him with some permanent balance and coordination difficulties. His crossed eyes may contribute as well.On the ground, TopHat’s wobbles are barely noticeable. He walks, runs and plays like any other energetic kitten. His limitations become much more apparent at heights. He is getting braver and has learned to claw his way onto couches, beds and cat trees, but his balance once he gets there isn’t great. He can fall easily and, importantly, does not reliably land on his feet.TopHat needs a home willing to keep his safety in mind while still giving him plenty of opportunities to play and explore. Low, sturdy climbing options and protection from dangerous falls will be important throughout his life. He may continue to get stronger as he grows, but his condition is stable and should be considered lifelong rather than something he is expected to outgrow.TopHat is neutered, vaccinated, very friendly and full of energy. As a bottle baby, he loves people, and he would likely enjoy another playful cat in his home. A home that can safely accommodate his balance limitations, however, is the highest priority. And for anyone wondering: his climbing skills make him very unlikely to ever become a countertop cat. His Churu skills, on the other hand, are exceptional. Before applying: TopHat will likely receive a lot of applications. Please make yours stand out by showing that you have read and understand his special needs and telling us how you plan to make your home safe for him.TopHat is being fostered in the 80246 zip code. Some applicants will be asked to visit him in his foster home before making a final decision about adoption. This means you should plan on potentially making two trips to the foster home — one to meet TopHat and one to pick him up if you are selected to adopt him. Please consider the driving distance before submitting an application.
